View Full Version : ISU ssistant Coach Kebe moves on as expected
Fennelly had said that he expected Kebe to get a head coaching job this spring, and he was right. Kebe is now the head coach at Akron.

Now that Kebe has left ISU I think there is a good chance that the assistant Bill names to replace her will be Stacey Frese-Huber. Bill has said that if there was an open position on his coaching staff that Stacey would be the first choice on the list. Not only would it be great to have Stacey back at ISU but she could really help out seeing as ISU will be very guard oriented next year.

I don't believe Coach Fennelly ever said Frese would be his top candidate, only a candidate. As great of a player as Stacy was, she only has one year of experience as a coach and none as a recruiter. (GA's cannot recruit off campus) With the pending rule change to allow an entire staff to recruit off campus Latoya Harris will be going on the road for the first time, so it will be difficult, in my opinion, to add Frese as an assistant since she has no experience recruiting. Also three of ISU's main recruiting targets are in Minn. and play on the Tartan's AAU team that were involved in the Brenda Oldfield fiasco up there. With Stacy's relationship to Brendat they MAY have a tough time accepting Stacy. (IMO more the coaches than the players.)
Is Stacy even done with her graduate studies? I can't see her leaving until she has her masters in hand. ISU has enough assistant turnover that she'll get another chance anyway. I doubt Pingeton will be here past next season. She'll probably get a head coaching job somewhere.

Another thought I had is that there are still players on the team that Stacy played with as a senior. I don't think you will see her come back until those players are gone. I think Coach F. will look for someone with a little more experience this time around, too.

WBB is still young and there is a limited number of quality assistants who can contribute to coaching or recruiting. Good coaches at lowel divisions, like Kebe and Pingeton, is one approach. Another is someone new, a recent grad from a storied program and WNBA experience could help with recruiting and bring some depth of experience.
