WACO, Texas - Baylor's women's basketball program has announced the signing of a junior college player to National Letters of Intent. Lon Morris College's Kendrea Walker will attend Baylor University in the fall of 2007.

"We are excited and pleased that she is joining our program," said head coach Kim Mulkey. "We wanted a post player that had some collegiate experience and would improve our basketball team."

Walker, a native of New Haven, Conn., will come to the Waco, Texas, campus after two highly successful seasons at Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas. In two years with the Lady Bearcats she poured in 1,016 points and hauled down 600 rebounds for career averages of 16.7 points and 9.8 rebounds. As a sophomore she led the squad in three categories tallying 19.3 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per outing and earned third-team NJCAA All-American and Region XIV MVP honors for her efforts. In addition, Walker is a two-time All-Region XIV and All-Conference selection for Lady Bearcat head coach Roslyn Floyd.

A 2005 graduate of Hillhouse High School (CT), Walker led the team to two the 2004 and 2005 state championships. She was named to numerous all-state and all-area teams.

Baylor signed two players to National Letters of Intent (NLI)) during the early signing period in November, guards Melissa Jones (Thornton, Colo.) and Kelli Griffin (Houston, Texas).

Jones led the Legacy High School Lightning to a 24-4 record and a berth in the Class 5A championship game, averaging 22 points, 10 rebounds, 5.8 steals, 4.5 assists and 1.7 blocks per game. The 5-foot-10 guard poured in a combined 52 points and pulled down 26 total rebounds in Final Four postseason play, including a double-double (25 points, 10 rebounds) in a title-game loss to Highlands Ranch.

Griffin, a 5-8 Clear Brook High School standout, scored 14.5 points , grabbed 4.7 rebounds, dished out 4.7 assists and registered 3.8 steals as a junior. She is Texas Hoops' top-ranked player in the class of 2007. She tore her ACL in May 2006 and recovering from the injury. Griffin was recently named first-team All-Greater Houston by the Houston Chronicle.

The 2007-08 Lady Bears roster is on-line, but Kendra Walker isn't listed. Anybody know where she went?

She had some grade hurdles to clear, apparently she did not do that. She will be missed as depth is thin inside for us.

I would assume she could still get in but don't really know.

... In a little bit of non-UConn news, former Hillhouse standout Kendrea Walker will not be playing for Baylor. Walker enjoyed two impressive years at Lon Morris College in Texas and committed to Baylor. The 6-foot-2 junior college transfer would have been a junior at Baylor and would have had a bit of a homecoming when Baylor played at St. John's in December. But Walker will not play for Kim Mulkey and the Bears. She is now enrolled at Oklahoma Baptist and will be eligible to play in January.
