In case you didn't know, the Duke/Temple game tipped at 4 this afternoon. That's a wierd time, but at least that won't leave Baylor playing at all hours of the night :D
Temple is giving Duke a run for their money.
Duke leads 51-46. Lady Comfort has 10 points and 8 rebounds. Bales has just picked up her 2nd foul. Waner is on the bench with 4 fouls. Mattox has 16 points. Lindsey Harding leads Duke with 15 points and 4 assists.

Why on earth am I stuck with the Pitt-Tenn game??? I hope they whip me to another game soon. If I'm stuck with this one, I get 2 blowouts tonight as I get the whole UWGB-UCONN game. I wish UWGB luck but I think they are in over the head vs. UCONN and especially on UCONN's homecourt.

Wow - Ole Miss is up on Maryland 20-6 with 13 min to go in the first half. I wouldn't mind seeing this game but I've still got Pitt-Tenn.
The Lady Rebels are kicking sand in Maryland's face. First half ends with Maryland down 17.
20-plus turnovers already for the over-hyped and overrated Terps. I wanted to play Maryland next game, now we're likely to get Ole Miss instead.
Whatever. Line 'em up.

20 Turnovers!
I think Maryland is trying to make a run at OU's record
And I am rooting for Maryland. I think OU would have all kinds of trouble with a team like Ole Miss.
But thankfully, the games OU played against Texas A & M, Baylor and Texas probably prepared us well should Ole Miss keep it up.
I wish they would send us to the Baylor/NC State game, it looks to be the most competitive of all 4. I can get the Michigan State/Rutgers game over on ESPNU.

Mississippi lost to Kentucky, Auburn, Mississippi State, and TEX-Arlington, among others. They also lost to Maryland in mississippi, 110-79. They just found a weakness that Maryland can't seem to plug, and Maryland isn't making them pay by exploiting their weakness.
I think we take either, but I would rather play Mississippi. With them, just keep the pressure on Price rather than letting her reverse it. We can dominate inside, and we can throw three point guards on her, a fourth if you want Ny to challenge her on defense. Make her work. Maryland has more balance, if they will use it.

Maryland apparently averaged about 18 turnovers per game. Yikes, sound familiar? OU will have their hands full with either of these teams, but maybe Maryland is sounding better at this moment.

Wow, Mississippi seems to know where Maryland will pass it before Maryland knows. What looks so familiar about this to me is I've seen teams do this against Oklahoma. If/when we play Mississippi, OU will have to play very smart.
Plus, Ole Miss looks much quicker than us as well.

I would much rather play Mississippi.
1. Price is 9 of 12 from the field, and she is a 44% shooter. She is 5 of 5 from the free throw line, and she is a 58% shooter.
2. Mississippi is hitting 38% of their threes, and they don't have anyone on the team who shoots 38%. Thomas shoots 37.7%. Easley shoots 28%, and she has hit four. The only other player over thirty percent is 7 for 22 on the season. But, tonight, they are hitting 38%.
3. They are shooting 50% tonight, and their best shooter hits 51%, Goff.
Mississippi is just having one of those days where they could throw up a prayer, and it would be answered.

Sounds like Georgia against Iowa State.
I hope you are right sybarite. But keep in mind the high FG percentage (not the 3s necessarily) are coming from points off turnovers. And boy does OU turn the ball over.

Kind of wish they'd cut to the Baylor game as Baylor has now come all the way back to tie it up.

OK, I've already got 5 teams wrong in the Sweet 16. Granted, I don't think too many people picked Marist and FSU in there. I also had Stanford in the Final Four since they didn't have to leave their freaking state.
But I am loving the competitiveness of this year's games!
Edit: Results are coming in. Looks like it'll be 7 teams wrong.

Our cable has been off since 5pm MST so we are JUST now getting to see these games.
I like Doron ALOT - so I really hate to see her hurting :(
But how cool is this for Ole Miss, Carol Ross and Mintie Price!!! Way to go Lady Rebels. Looks like Ole Miss has made their FTs and made 42 pts off of turnovers!
I love Carol Rosss - she was at Florida when I worked at Ole Miss and she was just so cool to watch coach on the sidelines. Very classy!

I think this is gonna be Texas A & M, Part II. Ugly "defense" basketball.
Blech! Though we did make strides in shaking out our lineup and lighting fires under Leah and Chelsi, Britney as well. We've had the opportunity to work against pressure defense (Texas A & M) and getting killed by dribble penetration (Ohio State). So, we've definitely gotten some preparation along the way.
I read a plea to our Big XII sisters down in College Station: can we practice against them a couple of days?

No. They're hitting everything tonight. Mississippi was 22 of 24 from the free throw line for 91%. Now, let's look at their season percentages:
Price 57.7%
Awkward 69.4%
Easley 67.7%
Goff 54.9%
Forrest 58.0%
Bartee 61.9%
Mincy 73.5%
Their top seven scorers are not really great free throw shooters, but they were 91% tonight.

Maybe the Big Three in the ACC should have been Duke, UNC, and NC State--unless Baylor can pull off some magic here. Granted Maryland was the defending champion, but they did not do much this year.

Last year there was a thread talking about parity in the women's game with george mason's run in the men's tourney last year. Well parity has broken through in a big way this year. 2 double digit seeds have made it to the sweet sixteen in the women's tourney and none made it on the men's side. We have also found out another thing. Home court is nice to have but if you are off your game it don't mean squat. :ou: is the big 12's only horse. Let's ride them all the way to cleveland.

Vandy has yet to figure out the Bowling Green, we're really Orange people and still trail 52-43 with 4 minutes to play. A game I've seen NOTHING of.
I think maybe it's a good year to be grateful you got a 3 seed and not a 2 :D
Oops, Vandy is making a valiant late strick, 52-49 Bowling Green and about 2 minutes to play.
Ouch, Connecticut with SERIOUS after burners, leading 92-68. Final 94-70

I'm rooting against Notre Dame as per tradition in my family. UNC should be spanking them but they came out lazy and sloppy to start off tonight and haven't found their groove. ND took some advantage and kept it close, but Latta and Co. pull it out, 60-51. Big East 2-2 today (Rutgers and UConn win; the rest of their 8-team juggernaut is done.
Curt Miller is having a helluva swan song at BG. Looks like they're about to dump Vandy and head to their first Sweet 16. After 6 years and a big-time turnaround, I can't imagine him not being picked up by one of the heavies searching for a new HC. Wonder who's gonna be smart enough to give this guy the reins?
Staley and Temple lost tonight, but acquitted themselves rather well against the Dukies. Helluva defensive game plan against them; just couldn't get enough buckets to close the deal; fouls made it a 10-pt loss, but GG's girls narrowly escaped disaster.
Shine's off of Frese; she lost her cool tonight and so did her team. I still want her in Austin.
Unless LSU can figure something out, it looks like UConn's road to the FF has once again been eased by an unimposing bracket....

Upsets galore! Mids going major! How sweet it is
HARTFORD, Conn. -- The nasty scratch on Mississippi senior Jada Mincy's right cheek suggested it wasn't a completely bloodless revolution, but the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament were marked by a mostly peaceful uprising of the hoops proletariat.
"Absolutely, we watched it all night," Mincy said about a second-round upset frenzy that began on Monday night in Stanford, Calif, when Marist upset Middle Tennessee and Florida State topped the second-seeded Cardinal.
"Armintie [Price] is my roommate, so we watched it -- curfew was at 11, but we were up until 12-something watching Marist. I love Marist, I fell in love with Marist four days ago when they played Ohio State. Those girls are just wonderful."
"That was really inspiring for us," Mississippi's Ashley Awkward said. "We were calling each other in the rooms, 'Oh my God, Marist won … Oh my God, FSU,' so it's like the underdogs are taking over. We're not worried about the seeding, we're not worried about that number behind us, we just want to play ball."
"This is the year of miracles," Mincy said. "This is the year anything can happen. This is the year that the aggressor, the one that has the most heart, will win."
I think it's been the best tournament we've had in a long, long time," Auriemma said. "And I don't know that you can say the committee didn't get it right. I don't think there is anything wrong with where they put people and who they matched up. I just think maybe we're underestimating how large the pool is of good teams. There is still a huge disparity, obviously, between 1 and 16, 2 and 15, but as you get closer now, it's really good, it's really fun."
Good for Geno!
I love it than Mincy and Ole Miss were watching the Marist game. I love it that it means something to these kids when FSU and Marist and Ole Miss win.
I'm really disappointed that we have only 1 Big 12 team in the Sweet 16..but OU's a great team to have representing the Big 12.
My hope is that we get rid of all the #1 seeds in the Sweet 16!
JohnHenry

So we've got a 10, a 13, two 7s and a 5 in the Sweet 16. For the first time ever, not a single regional has the top 4 seeds left.
Curiously enough, that model of egalitarian, 'anything can happen' basketball - the Men's Tourney - is sporting one 7 seed and nothing lower than that.
Wow.

It's called "competing".
You earn your parity and your respect in this game.
This sweet 16 will be really sweet, no matter who wins. :)
Now ESPN can quit beating the "no parity" drum and really cover the sport for a change.

It ain't just the Big 12 that fights for respect (if that's what we think we need to do). The bottom line is that media focuses on the "successful" programs and in so many ways ignores the other stories and the other teams.
"It's the biggest win in program history for our conference, for our community," said Miller. "It's just great, we're taking it to another level. There are great coaches in the MAC and we finally are getting the respect we deserve." Curt Miller - Bowling Green
It's about this - a young woman that refuses to lose.
