Note to OU Fans: When someone says to you "Go Sooners" don't look at them like they are crazy just because they don't have on an OU T-Shirt or Cap. There are a lot of people down here rooting for you!!! Go Big 12, Go OU, BEAT UCONN!!!!!!!!

No surprise.
Not only does Connecticut have hard core womens basketball fans, but the state ranks at the top on per-capita income.
Result: a whole lot of connecticans can afford to take a weekend to san antonio, while Roz Ross's mom has to work.
(Dont mind me, im just a little jealous that im not there.)

Thanks for the support, Guns Up! I'm jealous. Oh, and labguy, is that not pitiful that Ross's Mom's boss would not let her off work to go to San Antonio? What a jerk. This woman only works her rear off at 2 jobs and one guy is such a jerk not to let her off.
Go Sooners!

UConn had an unbelievable number of fans there. We sat behind the basket and were pretty much surrounded. The UConn fans to my left, an elderly couple, were fairly restrained. I asked if they had season tickets, and she said they couldn't get season tickets; only people who made sizeable contributions were able to buy season tickets. The woman behind us was obsessed with "Geeenoo" (said with an annoying nasal twang). "Hey, look at Geeenoo." "Geeenoo's worried about his tie." "Geeenoo's scratching his ear." Meanwhile, her companion kept flogging me on the head with her blue and white pompoms. I don't think any of them expected that UConn would have to play 40 minutes of basketball.

Which basket were you under, horn? Hee, hee, hee. I laughed about the pompoms. A friend and I attended and OU/NEbraska football game in Lincoln in 1987 and when NU scored the 1st touchdown, a NU fan sitting next to her accidently hit her across the nose, giving her a nosebleed. She asked him (very politely) "can you tell me when you think you might score your next TD?" He traded placed with an elderly gentlemen on the other side who was not so demonstrative. ALthough, I worried about that elderly man! But fortuntately, it was the last time Nebraska scored that day.

We were near the UConn band, vicki1ok. They were good seats, and, now that you mention it, the occasional flogging by pompom beats the nosebleed.

A LOT of folks in San Antonio were rooting for OU. I heard that Tennessee fans that didn't stay for the champ games....brought their extra tickets over to OU's hotel.
I had a Tennessee fan tell me at halftime that he was really impressed with the number of fans OU brought to San Antonio....
he asked if we would root for them during the UConn/Tenn game.
I made a point to approach ANY Big XII fan I saw wearing team gear to thank them...met some really nice folks from Texas Tech, Texas A & M, Baylor, Colorado, Kansas State.
We couldn't figure out these OU fans, and I was in the OU section....they did a great cheering job in the first half of each game and then everyone was glued to their seats the 2nd half........I'm one of the ones who is extremely dangerous with pom-pom's, so I give mine away now....I had a home-made bullhorn to use for the Connecticut game and informed the folks sitting behind me that I would not be sitting for this game.... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
I didn't find the Connecticut crowd to be loud though, not until the end of course when they were cheering their win. There were a few seats (not many) around us with no-one in them...and the people in front of me were trying to wave some friends down saying they were huge supporters of the men's team...
I could care less how big of a supporter a fan is of the men's basketball team looking for seating at the women's game.....the women's team does NOT see that money....that is definitely a pet peeve of mine.
Oh, almost forgot, both Stacy Stephens and Alisha Sare were sitting in the OU section in front of us for the championship game Sunday Nite.....wish now that I had gone down and thanked them, too....Lauren Selmon was there supporting her sister.

I saw Lauren and Stacy as well. We ran into some Colorado fans before going to the N.C. game. They were very nice and of course said they would be rooting OU on.
Kind of funny seeing Tennessee fans follow along with our spelling out the "O" "U" chant. UCONN fans were a bit quieter than I would have expected too. They got loud when the team did something great, but during the OU runs, they were fairly quiet.
I'm trying to think of the loudiest and rowdiest fans I've seen. The prize probably has to go to Iowa State fans.

Thanks SW and Schooner for your diaries! Give us more as you can. My sense was that the UCONN fans did not go really nuts until they were sure they were going to win. What do you think? I guess that is a tribute to the Sooners in a way, in that they didn't celebrate until the bitter end. BTW, SW, did you use the bullhorn to yell "CAN WE GET A REBOUND PLEASE?!?!?!" I did on more than one occassion and wished like hell I had a bullhorn. But I think Sherri was far more on top of it than I.
I had a feeling Tenn fans would root for us. (wonder why, <g>) I wasn't sure about Duke, given we had beaten them in the semis. But, shall we have a contest on season ticket sales next year? And average attendance?

UT has a reputation of being soft in the "loud and rowdy" fan department. I enjoy the enthusiastic and rambunctious fan, and have been known to embarrass spouse and children at times. (Truth be told, it's not that difficult.) I don't think it was the enthusiasm that annoyed me as much as the arrogance. The accidental pompom flogging could lead to a friendly conversation about the joys of wbb, but I don't believe there was any awareness by this UConn fan that there was a person occupying the same spot as her hyperactive pompom. The attitude was exemplified by another UConn fan who was lamenting the poor play by his team -- he was going to lose his bet that UConn would win by 40 points. 40 points?! Give me a break. They only won by 14 points on their home court. To their credit, however, Coach Auriemma and the UConn players showed a lot of respect for Sherri Coale and the OU team.

vickie....anytime I've seen UConn play, I've been mighty impressed with the way they block out for rebounding. Though their post players aren't necessarily tall, they are extremely athletic. Then, of course, when they didn't have position......
they have high-powered elbows. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
And, horntooter......I agree about the Connecticut team and Geno,
they were very well aware that they were playing a very, very good team. Most of the fans that I met were really nice......some, though, were very arrogant.....making comment that they hoped OU showed up to play. I really like Connecticut's team....though I don't care for Taurasi, AT ALL...
she is an incredibly gifted basketball player, BUT her on-court
personality could certainly use some work, IMO.
