Texas A&M women's basketball coach Gary Blair knows the Aggies have to win the Big 12 for his program to be considered equal with Baylor and Oklahoma.

"We're still a little bit of the Rodney Dangerfield at the ball," he said. "We beat OU twice, we beat Baylor and we're still ranked behind them. And that's the way it should be, because they've been up there for years. We've got to earn our stripes."

http://www.aggiesports.com/stories/022507/wbasketball_20070225049.phpThe Big XII isn't getting much respect today. Yes, the game will be live on ESPN2...but you'd never know it from the ESPN.com women's basketball page. That's all Duke. Baylor's pre-game radio show has been switched to another station...and CSTV All-Access hasn't caught on. So, it's not just Gary Blair who is feeling a little bit of the Rodney Dangerfield. :p But in 15 minutes, all this will be forgotten!

Oh good grief! SWNWNBM is doing the game (or whatever we call her; I might have misspelled it).

Do the announcers mind actually discussing the Big 12 conference during a Big 12 game?

I was thinking it was She Whose Name Will Not Be Mentioned.

Either way, I think it reflects the feeling of most of the board :)

If there's justice, SWMNBN will spend eternity listening to an endless loop of her own voice spouting whatever it is she spouts.

Good game...pretty physical from both teams. Both teams missing chippies here at the end.

32-28 Baylor at halftime. About what I expected, actually. This one may not be over in regulation.

38 all with 13 minutes left. ISU benefits more if A&M wins this (from a tiebreaker perspective vs Nebraska) so go Aggies. :)

Oh, man! WHEW! Tough, tough game.

If we can take care of business at home the Ags will be Big XII Champs and the number one seed in the Big XII tournament. I wouldn't have believed that at the start of the year especially with the injuries we have had to play through. Great game Baylor and it was a close and fun game and a great showcase of the Big XII on national TV.

Way to go Aggies!

If OU & TAMU win out...TAMU & OU will share the Big 12 Reg Season Title. The tie break would give TAMU the #1 seed in the tourney.

Why in the world would Baylor not foul after the missed 3pt attempt???? There were about 22 seconds remaining in a two possession game, at least give yourself a chance.

From Kim's postgame show: lots of credit to A&M; irritation with players who had lots of minutes but did not score; Lady Bears play hard but some are "soft" in that they don't play tough enough when needed; discouraged now but will get up tomorrow and prepare for OU.

Beats me...20 seconds is a lot of time as we've seen with our OT games thiis season.

I too was surprised they did not foul, especially with the way A&M struggles with free throws.

I'm still unsure about that one. At least twice during that period, Kim asked Angela "Do you wanna foul her?" and Angela didn't seem to react. Whatever communication issues there were there need to get worked out quick.

Not a perfectly played game, but a great game nonetheless. Neither team got a ton of great looks from outside, but A&M knocked theirs down and ours weren't close. Other than that it came down to finshing in the clutch and A&M did just that, especially Gant and Starks.

Congrats to the Aggies. You hung tough throughout the game today, and when Coach Blair sent out a challenge, you stepped up.

I can't count the number of times during the game that I asked myself how 2 players -- Gant and Starks -- could jump and shoot so quickly. They've got the moves down, for sure.

I'm proud of my Lady Bears, through and through. They gave it a good effort, but today the better team came out on top.

Bernice and Latoya, thanks for giving us fans such great memories. You have forged a special place in Lady Bear history.

Lady Bear fans, you stepped up today. Give yourself a nice pat on the back. Kim recognized you during her post-game comments.

Coach Gary Blair, you have my vote as Coach of the Year. I enjoyed watching Coach Blair even long before the opening tip. Climbing up in the stands to visit with the fans (A&M fans), strolling around the court, even going down the row and shaking hands with members of the Bear Pit (student section closest to the visiting team's bench). Now that was a very brillant move. Yes, those students are vocal and can get rowdy. But I've never seen anyone venture over to say hello. (Last year during a men's game with Tech, after the game ended Bobby Knight did go over and grab one of the students by the shirt collar; guess they got under his skin.)

I had heard that Coach Blair also made a special point to be out on the court when the opponent's alma mater was played and stood with respect. So I especially watched for this today, after the game. Sure enough, there he was, staying around and being respectful.

I also noticed that he went over to the A&M player huddle, which was still out on the court, and said something to them when The Good Ole Baylor Line began. I have to think that he reminded them to be respectful; I know their demeanor made him proud.

And last but not least, I also noticed that Coach Blair's biggest fan was there courtside to share a wonderful hug (and kiss) at game's end. All in all, it seemed like a very good day for the Aggie boss.

What a classy, classy individual. We are blessed to have him in our conference.

I agree that Coach Blair should be COY! He's a special guy and I'm very glad he's ours.

I am very impressed with A&M and the athletes they have on their team. Franklin does a great job directing traffic, Gant is Tough, Starks and Atunrase are sooooo smooth! They deserved the win today. Baylor can be proud of the fact that they had a shot at the conference title this season. No one expected them to be in such a tight race at this time of the year. Can' wait to see what happens the tournament(s).

Gary Blair is such a personable guy. I am proud for his accomplishments at A&M. He is the real deal. A&M is blessed to have him on board. I hope he gets a huge raise after the season. My wife would not go to the game today because she wanted to root for A&M and didn't want to upset the neighbors.

The officials were so bad today! I am not going to gripe because Baylor lost. There were SIX (6) times that a Baylor player would knock the ball out of bounds and the official gave the ball to Baylor. It was bad on both ends! I actually think A&M got shafted more than BU in this one.

I only watched the game sporatically in the 2nd half during OU timeouts, and the last few minutes. People talk about not fouling after the BU miss with 28 seconds, but what I didn't understand was why the Lady Bears spent 20 seconds (they got the ball 3pts down with 58 seconds left) throwing the ball around the perimeter before taking a perimeter shot? Why didn't they attack the hoop immediately and try to draw a foul, stoppin the clock?

They were getting mugged in the paint, why not try to draw a foul or get a jumper in the paint? That's what confused me.

Thank you for that post BearLady!:)

It made me tear up a little bit. I can't tell you how happy I am with Gary Blair. What a great coach and even better human being. He has made a big impact on A&M and the Bryan-College Station community, and is becoming one of the most most beloved coaches to ever lead an Aggie team--- and with good reason.

I think I'll add my vote for Gary Blair for Big XII COY right now.
Gary Blair has brought a team from the cellar to the penthouse, and somebody somewhere darn sure ought to acknowledge his achievement. A&M has a share of the title sewn up -- and they've never done that in the Big XII, nor had they ever done it in the SWC.

Only if they beat Texas on Wednesday, and hopefully the rejuvenated 'Horns will stay rejuvenated for a few more days. If Texas can pull out the win, then Baylor would have to beat OU for A&M to have a share of the conference championship. At least, that's what mred's bracket generator says.

Actually, I think OU and A&M are tied. If they have the same result in their last game of the conference season, they split it.

**Note: This is me saying this about 10 minutes before midnight. My logic may be gone by this time of night.

You are right, wwi.

If OU wins and Texas A & M wins, they will be co-conference champions, with Texas A & M getting the #1 seed and OU #2 and Baylor #3

If BU wins and Texas A & M wins, Texas A & M will win the conference title alone. Baylor and OU will tie with Baylor as the #2 seed and OU the #3 seed. So, I'm thinking there will probably be a lot of people rooting for Baylor on Wednesday.

If BU wins and and Texas A & M loses, there will be a three way conference tie with the same scenario as above.

IF OU Wins and Texas A & M loses,...........so so sorry senorita's, no ties, no splits, zilch, nada:

OU #1
TAMU #2
Baylor #3

Lady Bears bow to A&M, 63-58

Takia Starks and Danielle Gant were as quiet as church mice in the first half of Sunday’s Brazos River shootout at the Ferrell Center.

But two of the smallest Aggies made a lot of noise in the second half, combining for 32 points and lifting No. 16 Texas A&M to a 63-58 victory over No. 14 Baylor before a season-high crowd of 9,220.

“I thought when the game was tight, they made plays, they got the big rebounds, they made the big buckets. And we didn’t,” Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said. “That’s really what it boiled down to: At the end of the game, they made the plays, and we didn’t.” ...

Gant’s quick, spinning inside moves frustrated Baylor’s taller frontline of 6-3 freshman Danielle Wilson, 6-1 sophomore Rachel Allison and the 6-1 Mosby.

“She’s tough. Write that in capital letters. T-O-U-G-H,” Mulkey said of Gant, who scored 18 of her 22 points in the second half. “When you’re 5-10 and you’re playing at this level, you’re tough.” ...

Because of a “misunderstanding,” Player said, the Lady Bears didn’t even try to foul and put the Aggies on the line after Tisdale’s missed three-pointer with 20 seconds left.

“It was just a whole team thing,” Player said. “We got pretty down on ourselves.”

The Aggies, who held Baylor to 0-for-12 from beyond the arc and 20-percent shooting overall in the second half, can clinch at least a co-championship and No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament with a win at home Wednesday over Texas.

“We’re sort of like the little team that could,” A&M coach Gary Blair said. ...

http://www.wacotrib.com/sports/content/sports/college/2007/02/26/02262007wacladyaggies.htmlCongratulations, Texas A&M. Great job, Coach Blair. Fantastic game, Danielle "T-O-U-G-H" Gant. ;)

Women's Basketball: Starks, A&M knock off Baylor
Natalie England -- Express-News

WACO — As far as the revelry goes, there wasn't much to see.
You had to hear it.

When the final seconds ticked off the clock — cementing Texas A&M's 63-58 victory against Baylor — the crowd of 9,220, mostly shocked Lady Bears fans, looked on in silence as the Aggies discretely huddled and exchanged some high-fives and smiles.

Then, came A&M's noisy sprint through the bowels of the Ferrell Center. As the Aggies neared their locker room, two voices could be heard above the other yelps and screams.

“Give me my ring,” one called. “Diamonds,” another said.

They're talking about Big 12 championship rings — the Aggies are one game from owning some jewelry to commemorate the program's first league title in any conference. ...
