Big XII RPI will take a hit Friday night as Iowa State (7-0, RPI: 5) takes on Niagara (0-7, RPI: 319). (There are 321 teams ranked at http://www.collegerpi.com/women/ so it is still theoretically possible to take an even bigger beating on RPI. Not by much, though.) As for why this is happening, well . . . Everyone knows how strong a pre-conference schedule Louisiana Tech plays, right? (La Tech's strength of schedule ranking is 2). Well, Thursday night La Tech beat Centenary 98-44. Centenary's RPI is 318, and earlier this season they got the first -- and only -- D-I win in their three-year program history. So, yes, even the big dogs pencil in some rest stops in their busy schedules.

It's still pretty embarrassing, though.

Texas (6-1, RPI 9 per collegerpi.com) will play Lamar (2-4, RPI 298) on Saturday. The Longhorns usually play a couple of these type of games each year at home. The Longhorns always have enough tough games for the RPI to balance out ok.
