How about a Big 12 television sports network?

I say "Git-er-dun"!

I quoted this from an article in the Omaha World-Herald. KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Big 12 chief executive officers on Friday authorized Commissioner Kevin Weiberg to explore all options to create a Big 12 sports cable television network.

"I would emphasize that we haven't decided to do it," said Harvey Perlman, chairman of the Big 12 board of directors and the chancellor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

"But we certainly have urged him to aggressively look at it and develop information the board would need to make an informed decision."

The Big Ten is the first conference to create its own network.

Weiberg already is preparing for TV negotiations with current partners ABC-ESPN and Fox. His homework now includes shopping for a new Big 12-only channel. Some cable companies - none was specified - already have asked the league's interest.

Weiberg said no decision is likely until the Big 12 spring meetings in May. Here's the link but that was all that was said about the tv network. You need to register to read it.

YES!!!!
Finally. I was wondering if they were even thinking about doing it. Since ESPN and FOX don't care to broadcast our league's WCB games until conference play, maybe this would allow all of us to not have to rely on faulty Gametracker.

Even if it will cost us a few bucks as viewers, I'd gladly pay for it. I was lucky enough to get the :ISU: vs. Minnesota game last night on ESPN FullCourt, but that's pretty rare.

The MWC has it's own network called "the mtn" it's part of CSTV.

It's only carried on digital cable and is NOT available on satellite (Dish or Direct TV) and contracts have not been signed in several markets like Fort Worth (TCU). So, there's been quite some controversy. They're supposed to be working on a deal with Dish and Direct TV...but so far it hasn't happend.

We receive it on digital cable (through Cable One)

I was reading an article a month or so ago about the Mountain West Network and the conference officials were thinking that more football games would be televised as a result AND they would not have to play mid-week to get on TV.

The article I read indicated that several schools were unhappy, feeling as though they are getting less coverage now than they were prior to the formation to the MWC network and I think STILL playing midweek in FB.

There are several games I would like to see, but I'm unable to get the MWC.

It will be interesting to see how the Big 10 network goes over because that's probably a closer match to the Big XII than the MWC, because it's football that controls anything that would happen in this direction.
