I may have asked before, but don't remember getting a reply. Does anybody on the face of this earth know what ever happened to Michi Atkins? She was one of my very favorite Tech players of all time. I remember how dominant she was in the post, and how she PUNISHED the '96 Olympic Team USA. I LOVED IT!!! I would have never imagined that she wouldn't have a solid career in the WNBA. My favorite play of her career was in the '93 National Semis (she was a freshman). She came off the bench at one point when the game was tight, and within a few seconds there she was - - jumping up by the rim, hauling down a MONSTER offensive rebound, and sticking it right back in 6'8" Heidi Gillingham's face for a bucket!!! Sure did like the way that gal played ball!

She was drafted and then released by the Charlotte Sting in '97 (Just do a web search on her name and you'll get bits and pieces).

I've not heard what happened to Michi but am disapointed for her that her WNBA career was short. I saw her a few year back at one of the "LR Reunion" games, but nothing since then. She was absolutely without a doubt, the heart and soul of getting this program off the ground after Swoopes left and they won the NC. She was gutsy and tough as nails and at 6-1, played like she was 6-5 and had one of the sweetest turnaround jumpers in the country. And to think she was from little bitty Loraine, TX. Those are the kinds of stories I love, not an McDonald's AA, not highly recruited, but proved to the country as a frosh, she could play ball.

You're right, JK, she was on fire and went off on the Olympic Team. I remember Tara's comments after the game was, "With Atkins playing like she did tonight, she should be playing on this team with us!"

There must be something to the whole story... I've watched women's and girls' ball too long. I KNOW Michi had the game to play in the WNBA. I wish she'd just go play for the Comets! She could probably walk out on that court today and tear Tiffany Johnson a new one!

...furthermore, I'm really surprised that one of those old savvy coaches (like Van Chancellor) hasn't found her and invited her to one of the local try-out camps.
