16 teams left to dance.

The good news for the Big 12 will be, someone's to the final four. But only one of them will.

Mideast Regional: I didn't know Milwaukee was in Connecticut.

Connecticut 84, Penn State 65: Mazzante will keep PSU in the game, but Swin Cash, Ashja Jones and Tamika Williams will tip the balance. The Lions have more size inside, but not of their frontcourt can mark those three. Perimeterwise, Sue Bird will control the tempo and the forwards for UConn will get a lot of goodies.

Old Dominion 74, Kansas State 68: K-State has played great all year, but ODU will play a very aggressive defense just like they did against Purdue and they outboxed Purdue in the overtime with their guards Hamichetou Maiga and Okeisha Howard. I do not see Koehn, Mahoney or Booker being able to match that intensity.

Connecticut 80, Old Dominion 68: ODU will give the regional final a run, but again, too much Cash, Jones and Williams.

Midwest Regional: Hey! Where's the 'Clones???

Okay no Iowa State, but there is still a mighty fine regional in Ames.

Tennessee 61, Brigham Young 58: Erin Thorn and her merry band now look to pull of the Cadilliac of upset and they can. The Cougars penetrate-pass-shoot offense can find a lot of holes in a Lady Volunteer team with a lot of talent, but lacking in court savvy. However, Tennessee will pull this out because of the woman in command. Pat Summitt today will trade offense for defense. Kara Lawson and Loree Moore will stick to BYU's guards like glue and take away the penetration. Those guard were able to move against less athletic defenders. Today they are getting the gold standard. It will be a close game with a low shooting percentage, and Tennessee's sizable forwards like Gwen Jackson and Ashley Robinson will clean up the messes. Lawson will be the game's high scorer

Vanderbilt 86, North Carolina 69: The Commodores will be once, twice, three times a lady with Ashley McIhenny controlling the game up front. She'll use North Carolina's aggressiveness at the perimeter to her advantage. UNC's guard often overplay and gamble, and McIhenny's been living for that this year. Then you have the dynamic duo. Chantelle Anderson will have control of the paint today. She make the moves she wants to make. Zuzi Klimesova will be the sniper across the court. The Tar Heels need Nikki Teasley big time, and she's been too up and down to expect that she can roll the dice big today.

Vanderbilt 77, Tennessee 60: The difference between Vandy and UT now is fear. Vanderbilt's kids are not intimdated by Tennessee this year.

East Regional: Duke's Greatest Dream?

Welcome to Raleigh and if you are Duke fan, this is a dream come true. The road to the Final Four goes right through Tobacco Road.

Duke 75, Texas 70: The difference is guard play. Duke has Alana Beard, Texas has no one who can mark her. Duke has Monique Currie. Texas has no one who can get past her. Duke has Krista Gingrich, Texas has no one who can shoot with her. Duke has Shana Mosch, Texas has no one who can equal her. The Longhorn inside game will outdo the Duke inside game when the game become trench warfare inside. The problem is, the game won't get grimy. This will be neutron bomb, push-button, perimeter zone of combat, and that will open the door to Duke's guards and their All-American doing the job.

Drake 71, South Carolina 69: This will be the best game of the sweet 16 no one will pay attention to. Iso Camera fight to watch. Tree Geter vs. Carla Bennett. Susan Walvius will most likely put Big Smooth in situations where she faces Bennett a lot at both ends of the floor. If you like seeing good post play, you are going to get it here.
Why I'm taking Drake has more to do with outside game. The Gamecock guards can score points, so can the Bulldog, but the difference is the Bulldog guard shoot a little bit better and defend a little bit better.

Drake 68, Duke 64: For the second straight year, Duke will die by the hand of the Missouri Valley Conference. Last year, a penetrator did them in. This year, the Big Girl inside does the damage. Duke guards are a great strength, but they are counteracted by a grave weakness. This team doesn't have the grit inside. It bit them against Purdue in '99, It bit them in 2000, It bit them even as Jackie Stiles was ripping them up in 2001. The bire returns in 2002.

West Regional: The Borg vs. The Big 12 Federation

From Palo Alto they come. Cold. Deadly. Efficient. They soullessly naster all the survey enroute to a 30-2 record. Just like the cyborg nightmare from Star Trek, they come to assimilate what they feel is rightfully theirs, and denied them since 1992.
Tara Vanderveer's Borg are matched with three of the finest starships the Big 12 has to offer.

Stanford 71, Colorado 68 I will put my rival dislike for Vichy Colorado aside and wear black and gold today, The key is Stanford has the best person on the floor in Nicole Powell, and today she will be placed in her natural position, the swingman spot. Colorado's best chance to win will be winning battle between Mandy Nightingale and whoever will be the Stanford quarterback today (Probably Sebnam Kimyacioglu). Inside if Britt Hartshron and Tera Bjorklund play up to snuff, I'd take them over the Cori Enghusen (The Pac-10 version of Katie Morse), and Bethany Donaphin (a good player who can be intimdated). However the X-factor will be Lindsey Yamasaki. If she gets moving early, The Buffs will be assimilated. Stanford will try to forced the mismatch between Yamasaki and Eisha Bohman. Resistance will be futile.

Oklahoma 77, Texas Tech 73: Just another Big 12 battle. It's a 15 round fight, and I wouldn't be surprised if it took 45 minutres. The key will be inside. I like Hill and Tolbert against the Central Committee the Lady Raiders are forced to play in the frontcourt. TTU needs to hit a lot of outside shots, and Oklahoma's been able to control that in their meetings with Texas Tech this year.

Oklahoma 75, Stanford 72: The USS Sherriprize will meet the Borg head on. With her first officers Stacey Dales and LaNeisha Caulfield again controlling perimeter and forces Powell to move up court defensively, and exploiting the defensive weakness of Kimyacioglu and defensive specialist Lauren St. Clair (a solid defensive player who suffers against more athletic offensive threats). Inside Hill and Tolbert will be gangbusters. The X-factor again feature Lindsay Yamasaki, but this time Oklahoma's X-factors Rosalind Ross, and back up quarterback Dionnah Jackson will be too much speed for the taller but slower Cardinal to deal with.
Oklahoma will boldly go where no Big 12 team has gone before.
