View Full Version : Dick Halterman was fired, and now?
When I read this thread pertaining to OSU women's basketball at OState.com, I couldn't believe what I was reading.
Just makes me ill.

what a bunch of losers.........stay away from Norman. Hmmmm, don't they realize that OU has brought their program from these very depths????? Not just football, but men's bb, women's bb, gymnastics, softball, wrestling....I know there are more programs in the Top 10 in the nation, just not looking at the list.
I think the glue behind OU's success lies with Castiglione and Boren and the support they give to student athletes and the athletic departments. Though Castiglione didn't hire all the coaches under his helm right now, he knows how to take care of them, thank god.......

Swok, My dad and I had a conversation about Castiglione the other night. We hope he plans to stick around OU for a really long time. He's definitely the glue.
As for OSU--that's a bunch of crap. At least a few of the people had the cahoones to say they thought it was wrong. It'll be interesting to see who ends up coaching.
My dad told me he did see an article with a quote from Halterman that said or implied that one reason for the firing of Halterman was that the Administration told him to give a girl a scholarship because her brother/boyfriend was a potential recruit (not sure what in) and he refused because the girl was not D1 caliber. This hacked his superiors off. Now he's jobless. Go figure.
Wow! Talk about a bunch of short-sighted folks. It is a shame.

Does anyone know if Halterman wants to continue coaching somewhere?

This kind of stuff is so so damaging. If ol Terry Don Phillips does not get his act together soon he is going to see what is left of the program completly destroyed for a long time and it will hurt the university.
Can you imagine what sort of effect this must have on recruiting? And for goodness sakes, think about the fine players that they do have like Skibbe.
No real qualified coach is going to want to touch the place and can you imagine the sort of respect an unknown coach would get now if they do hire one. How could he or she hope to recruit and be effective? What a shame. This is like a slow motion disaster. I wish we could do more than watch it happen in morbid fascination but I think that's what we are reduced to. Sad, sad, sad!
KSUron, it appears that OSU has decided to try to kill off the only current women's sport with any chance of being a revenue producer, to the great detriment of their university, and by association, the Big 12 as well.
This is just so very sad. I'm sure glad I'm not an alumnus of a school that has such strange mental processes.
I gutted this post because after seeing it I couldn't stand to let it be on this thread.
I love women's basketball. Some people don't.

After a great deal of fact-finding today, I find that the HS coach in question is much of the source of the rumor and that she may be the only one that thinks she has a shot at the job...thank goodness.

Maybe some posters ought to keep their traps shut....especially
a highly regarded recruiting service...until the info is verified.
Bonk on the head to Greg Swaim.
