A Cardinal can't whip up on a Buffalo....but then I thought a Grizzly Bear could whip a Bulldog.

Stanford is just a mediocre team and I think the http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/cu.gif can take them. Britt owes us a game.

Biggest surprise of the tournament was that buffalos are loyal to their friend's obcessions.

My best friend and her husband both graduated from CU, live in a suburb of Austin now, and they came and brought the whole family to support the UT women in the subregionals. My friend doesn't even understand why they shoot two free throws sometimes and only one at others, but she yelled loud and really liked Stacy Stephens, so she knows the important stuff.

At any rate, keep playing hard http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/cu.gif and make "chips" out of those cardinals.

I'm pulling for Colorado, but I think Stanford will win...going away.

I think this will game will be one of the better games of the tournament's sweet sixteen games, both teams match-up really well.

I'm doing no predicting from here on out....too many variables.

It is Cardinal-- as in the color rather than the bird.

I was willing to discount the Cardinal for playing in a weak conference until I propped up my eyelids with toothpicks the other nights and watched them play. They are good. Make no mistake about it. and they are HUGE!

Go Buffs!

I did manage to watch the first half the other night, too...
and Enghusen (6'-7) was having a really good night. Was also the first time I've seen Thiel play, I'm not familiar with their other freshmen. Thiel is from Weatherford, Texas for those who recall discussing her over the summer in regards to recruiting.

Most of Stanford's players are 6'- or better......reminds me of Texas, they play a tall guard line-up.

Oops, I must have watched part of the first game vs Weber St...
Enghusen had a GREAT game, then seemed non-existent in the Tulane game.....hmmmmm, I know I watched part of that Tulane game. I think my games are all running together http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

There is an interesting discussion going over at the ESPN board about this matchup......if you can ramble past the fans of other teams chiming in.

Is T'Nae Thiel the sister of the Thiel from Nazareth who is going to Texas next year?
Thiel seems pretty decent--but slow.

The Theil from Nazareth is not a sister---think a cousin though. T'Nae does have a sister who attended Weatherford High, they both moved there from Canyon last year. Her sister Teegan is not as tall but did quite well. I think they lost in the Regional tournament to eventual state champ Mansfield

I remember someone saying it was a cousin. Is the sister a senior this year or is she playing bb this year somewhere?

Here's Nancy Lieberman's take on the game, along with some other comments on the Sweet Sixteen games.....

Hey Metro--I didn't see you at the LNC (though I don't doubt that you were there!).

We had a good time--my nephew finally started really getting into the Monday night game and clapping and such. Initially, he complained because it was to loud, but he got used to it.

Welcome to the board.

Ok, I know its the color but don't be suprised that people who know its not the bird still call your team the Cardinals. Ever hear of an NFL team called the Brown? How about a baseball team called the Red? No I haven't either, but I have heard of the Browns and the Reds. It just does not seam quite natural to refer to multiple members of a team as the Cardinal.

No offense meant, but since Stanford went so far out of its way to be politically correct and unique with its team name you should cut the rest of us some slack on this one and not be so sensitive.

Btw I was glad to finally get to see that west coast Nicole. We think quite a bit of our Nicole at KSU but I can see why you are so entralled with yours. She is a fine player.

According to Nancy Liberman, the Buffs stand the biggest chance of an upset. Now I rarely agree with NL...but on this I would agree.

"Bring on the Buffs
One of Saturday's best matchups will be the West Region semifinal between No. 3 seed Colorado and second-seeded Stanford, and the Buffs have a shot at knocking off the higher seed for the upset.

These are two programs that in the 1990s were very revered, and it's great to see them back at this level. The programs also are very familiar with each other. Colorado's Ceal Barry was an assistant on the gold-medal winning 1996 Olympic women's basketball team, which was coached by Stanford's Tara VanDerveer. Saturday's game also marks the third time in nine years that the Cardinal and Buffs meet in the West semifinals.

Stanford has really good players, and is incredibly well-coached with a lot of size (11 of 13 players on the roster are at least 6 feet tall). The Cardinal are experienced and can shoot the ball very well, and no one is more versatile than Nicole Powell. Lindsey Yamasaki, who appears recovered from her appendectomy.

But Stanford will struggle to match Colorado's team speed. Colorado might push the tempo on Stanford, which really had had trouble with teams that can run. And while the Cardinal are great at hitting the open shots, Colorado won't give them many.

Barry is a defensive guru. The Buffs give up just 63 points a game, and every single one is hard to come by. Colorado contests every shot, rotates well in man-to-man defense and really gets in the passing lanes. The Buffs make you work for everything.

Colorado's tough Big 12 schedule also works to the Buffs' advantage. Colorado has played really well this year, and if it can run and rebound, the Buffs have a chance for an upset.

Colorado's players to watch are Mandy Nightingale and Jenny Roulier, who are unbelievable 3-point shooters, and 6-5 Tera Bjorklund inside.

thanks for your nice words about Powell and welcoming me to the board KSUron. I won't be posting here, but since you asked me a question, I will reply.

the poster above reffered to us a bird, we are not birds. There are other ollege teams that have color for nicknames and there are many schools that have quite unique names too. You are right, in the 1970's the Stanford students did not like being called the Indians out of respect to a group of people that settled our first country first, but were killed and taken over-perhaps by a Sooner?

I'm not sensitive about it, Cardinal is our name and that is what we should be called. Maybe you should cut us some slack by calling us by our correct name and not put your views on what we should be called.
