I don't know mred. This game has to be the second worst officiated game I have EVER seen. Some of the calls were TERRIBLE. Granted, ISU should have hit their FTs but the calls at the end against ISU were as bad as they get. I sympathize for ISU because I was really rooting for them. I hope those refs really see how much they screwed ISU. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/mad.gif

69-75 Arrrggh! What a bummer. Sad day for ISU. We will really miss those seniors in the Big 12. It was looking sooo good, then boom the bottom drops out. Turnover, missed foul shots, turnover, missed foul shot etc. Arrrrgh!

Ugh. Now the Big 12 is down to 5 teams, 3 of them in the same region.
I think the Big 12 will be hard pressed to get more than 1 Final Four team, unless Texas comes up big in Raleigh or wherever it will be played in North Carolina.
But, if Colorado beats the winner of Tulane/Stanford, the Big 12 is assured of 1 Final Four team! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
Again, tough way to go out for the ISU seniors, just like the Baylor seniors. To lose your final game on your home court. Nonetheless, Gahan and Welle have had stellar careers.

Oh man, I can't beleive that! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif It was like at the 10:00 min. mark, they finally figured out how to limit Welle and the game started to shift and ISU started to lose confidence. I hate to see seniors go out like this--though loss.
The most painful loss for Iowa State, by far, in the past four years. At least it was for me.

That was no way to end a season. Missed free throws, missed defensive assignments, and in a complete surprise, the Iowa State kids lost poise, and that is something that doesn't normally happen.
The Cyclones became the Iowa State Cornhuskers in the final 5 minutes of the game. There were some brutal calls down the stretch, but they coughed it up near the end and went spastic. I was stunned, I didn't think Iowa State could panic like that.
A tip of the stetson to Angie Welle, Tracy Gahan and Kelly Cizek. Three fine players who've done themselves in their school proud.
Now the big acid test. Will Ames show up for a regional that the Cyclones aren't in?

Yep, will be interesting to see the attendance. But, I can't blame them for not showing up. And, what does it really matter if they do or don't? Maybe that sounds selfish and what not - but it's no big secret that fans primarily want to see their own team play. And going back to that arena will just be a reminder of the bitter loss to BYU - especially seeing BYU play again.
I think I might just show up if I were an ISU fan just because it would be interesting to see Summitt in person and see just how good they may be. Plus a Vandy - Tennessee final would more than likely be worth the price of admission. But, lets face it, most fans are not like us here on HoopScoop. They don't necessarily appreciate the bball played by other teams and couldn't even begin to name players or coaches of the other teams without reading them in the newspaper first.
So can't blame them, and don't see how we should expect them to show up.

I sure the attendence will be down. I told my son when we ordered the tickets before the basketball season we would be going even if ISU was not playing. He said no duh the winner is going to the final four. But we watch women's basketball not just ISU basketball.

After looking at the schedule, my wife and I decided we are going to the MidEast ragional. It's only about a 40 minute drive for us, so we'll be there rooting hard for KSU.

Are there tickets left, mred? With Connecticut and K-State fans, I would suspect they are a hot commodity.....
I'd assume so. KSU and UConn may have a lot of fans, but neither is geographically close to Milwaukee.

You can call me a cryclone cause I cried last night. Not because of the the officiating.(there's nothing I could do) They killed themselves last night. I cried because I got attached to these senior players. You can't help but feel bad for them after all the wrok they have put in the last four years
The end came too soon
Neither you nor I was ready
It kills me to see you go
My heart lead, so heavy
Tears flow, a river of sorrow
The world turned upside down
But you faced defeat better than I
I fell to the floor like a mound
You were the best
You had so much pride
This a small bump in the road
You took it all in stride
I'll miss you when you're gone
You did more than you'll ever know
I wish you luck in all that you do
Thank you for taking us along for the show

Swok, Mideast Region ticket sales from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal:
As of Monday morning, nearly 5,000 tickets had been sold for the Mideast Regional, according to a Marquette spokesman, for the games at the U.S. Cellular Arena (capacity 11,358).

Thanks for making that statement, RaiderPower, as we have recently been called the "cryclones" for this very reason, and it's nice to see that someone else notices this too. The officiating has truly stunk all season long.

I'm heartbroken for the Cyclones. I think Angie Welle and Tracy Gahan are two of the greatest of the greats....they'll be missed and I wish them well!

My point about the officiating in this game is this:
I have noticed in other games, I watch A LOT of college basketball, that the refs do not make "questioning" calls in the final 10 minutes if the game is close. The first two that come to mind are the offensive foul against Tracy Gahan where she "pushed" her defender and the call against Angie Welle where she was called for a block on the screen. Those calls allowed BYU to shoot FT while the game was close. Like I said, I couldn't believe that the refs were calling these "close calls" when the game was so close. That is the first time I had ever seen it happen.

And one more thing...BYU is NOT an 11 seed! They should have been something like a 5-7. I was surprised with their play and I will be rooting for them against Tennessee, but I do hope now that Vanderbilt gets to the Final Four. I absolutely love the way Chantelle Anderson plays on the block. She's amazing.

Shocking, shocking, shocking. ISU, I loved watching you play this year. You were really a fun team to watch play. Hate to see it end this way. Originally posted by Press:

I agree RaiderPower, the officiating was terrible. But 20 turnovers, and the other team scoring 21 points off of turnovers as well as us not hitting the free throws....I don't think we can blame the whole game on the refs. Although I would like to. Let's all get out and root for the rest of the Big 12 teams.
