I'm on a flight back from a weekend seeing friends out west. I decided to check in on how Nebraska was doing. So I whipped out the credit card around 7:35 EST, after my flight out of STL was into the cruising pattern and hooked up my computer to AirFone to catch the Nebraska-Cincinnati game.

The night was so bad, I even wrote a song about it.

C-R-A-P in Cincinnati
(Sung to the tune of "WKRP in Cincinnati)

Baby, if you ever wondered..
Wondered, if Cowgill could hit a three?
Nebraska's women came to Cincinnati

The team played like total C-R-A-P!

I got tired of hearing Val King scoring
Shot for shot over Katie all the while.
Maybe winning games was never meant to be.
I hope Paul can take unemployment with a smile.

We were C-R-A-P in Cincinnati...

34 KING, Valerie....... g 10-14 4-7 9-9 0 2 2 0 33 3 2 0 1 38

This was the first failure of Nebraska tonight. Valerie King owned this game. No one among Nebraska's guard came up to challenge this kid. She was hot tonight, no question. But this is in the type of threat, the new defense and new players brought in where designed to defend against. Keesha Cannon played a great offensive game. Shannon Howell did her job, too but neither played well defensively and it showed tonight.

FAILURE #2. Interior? 23 rebounds total, 7 by a guard (Ms. Cannon, who seemed to be the only Husker who came to play tonight).

For the fourth straight game Katie Morse (or is it Casey Morse?...or maybe its Katie Leonhardt, I'm not sure) was invisible. 2 points, 0 rebounds, 13 minutes. Something funny is going on.
Katie Robinette wasn't much better. Franchise Leonhardt missed every shot she took tonight. 0 points, 0 rebounds, 24 minutes and all night the Pinnacle Radio crew was yelling "Robinette out of position!!!"

I have a feeling Stephanie Jones will draw the start at center against Drake Sunday. She did have 11 poinst off the bench and did aid a 2nd half comeback attempt that drew the lead to within 9, only to have the hot shooting Bearcats blow Nebraska out, and much like Nebraska did last season, they panicked, folded, and died quietly.

FAILURE #3 Nebraska needed to hit some threes tonight. In the first half, the team went 1-for-10. K.C. Cowgill was 0-for-3 for the game. The starters went 1-for-10. Overall the team shot a respectable 41 percent. But when you give 61% shooting...OUCH!

About Cincinnati? Give them props. Valerie King couldn't miss. And she has two more full seasons to give people problems in the C-USA. Debbie Merrill's been on fire since the start of the season. 19 points, 6 rebounds, and on a number of plays she beat up on Husker interior players.
Outside K.B. Sharp put in yet another 40 minute effort and came out with 6 points and 6 assists. More important, she moved Nebraska's defense with smart play. In the battle of point guard, her contributions trumps Keesha Cannon's 19 points.

A note to Bearcats fans: 386????? Is that it??? C'MON CINCY U. Give them women some love. There's a good solid basketball team in the making at UCincinnati. A sorry Nebraska team draws 3,000, a team with potential and guys like UC deserve a following that good.

OUTLOOK: Nebraska received its second serious road test of the year. The Tulane was winnable, they missed some plays, but overall played well.
Tonight, this team played as bad as last years team, and that scares me. Because whenever Nebraska plays really bad, they tend to play poorly two or three games at a time.
Next up is a Drake team that probably that little bit ticked off after being destroyed by Iowa State. Drake is a tournament team, and they have some players (including their star) who have some business with the girls in scarlet and cream.

In my preview, I said this two-game stretch will tell us what kind of ballclub will show up. So far the team that shows up is looking too much like last year's. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif
