She's no Sherri Coale when it comes to wordsmithing but it's a start. She avoided the "I'm just a good old country girl" cliche but fell into the "14 big girls" and the "I'm so blessed" cliches.
Yes, yes I know I'm not a believer when it comes to Curry but like I said it's start. I'll look forward to reading more.

I was going to make the comment that I think it's Gary Blair that's set the bar high amongst our Big XII coaches.......
but it appears he has spent his time golfin' and fishin' this summer :)

HoopGurlz has an article featuring one of Curry's first recruits to Tech, Jordan Jones.

I think it's a refreshing change.
She may not be "all that", after it's all said and done, but the program was headed in the wrong direction. I'm certainly willing to give her a shot at putting her stamp on it and see what direction we go. If that means being a "good ole southern girl", that's fine with me. Coach Sharp built the program based on being a good ole West Texas girl, so it's sounds like it's a match made in heaven.
She does seem to care about her players and from what I've seen from Purdue, they liked her. I'm sure there are exceptions, but she has a compasion I like. I think the true test will be whether or not Alesha Robertson smiles again. She's not done that since her freshman year and I want to see her having some fun out there on the court.
I can't imagine Coach Sharp blogging. :)

If we start pointing out every cliche coaches use, this space will fill up pretty quick. Hoopscoop will need a new server.
Nicely done, Press.
For her to leave Purdue for Tech makes me feel like this is the one job that she wanted all along. Like it was her goal or something...
I would NOT sell Curry short, this may be the new start the Tech needs to revitalize the program. The recent hires into the Big 12 have pretty much universally met my approval from my personal "gut-check" test of what a coach should be. We should definitely give her the chance to "arrive" in Lubbock.

Big 12 sleeping giants
Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto allegedly originated the legend of the sleeping giant following the World War II attack on Pearl Harbor in saying, “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”
So the Big 12 Conference did not invent the saying — it simply overuses it.
•Bill Byrne, athletic director at Texas A&M, on the Aggies’ football team in 2003: “Our rivals in the Big 12 Conference would like to see us throw in the towel right now. They know we are a sleeping giant here.”
•Mark Mangino, commenting in 2002 on rebuilding the Kansas football program: “Having been a coach in this conference, I always said that Kansas was the sleeping giant.”
•Rick Barnes, Texas basketball coach, in 1999 on Big 12 hoops: “Right now, this league is very underrated. … This league is a sleeping giant.”
•Kim Mulkey-Robertson, in 1998 as Louisiana Tech’s associate head basketball coach, on the Missouri women’s program: “A sleeping giant for women’s basketball.”
•Matt Zimmerman, assistant basketball coach at Missouri, on joining new coach Mike Anderson’s staff for the 2006 season: “We really feel like this is a sleeping giant.”

"but the program was headed in the wrong direction.
That's sounds like a chin-high fastball inside here. Texas Tech was headed in the wrong direction? Maybe, I'm misunderstanding here, but it seemed Marsha Sharp over the last few seasons was playing against a stacked deck. The sideline looks like a MASH unit. You lose your best offensive threat at the start of the season, and you have a key piece of the team go AWOL most of the season (Yes, Alesha Robertson I'm talking to you. #55 took a lot of game off last year.)
I think Coach Curry will do very well. She's a solid coach and walking into a situation where the school is board and people sell out for this team.
But lets not get into the Solichization of Marsha Sharp. She's earned much better than that.

Solichization? Good Lord, that’s hardly a comparison. Coach Sharp didn’t get fired; she stepped down although some still view her departure as if Tech fired her, which I don’t understand.
I'm not here to disrespect Coach Sharp and what she's done and you’re reading way more into my comment than is necessary for the sake of this post. But reality is reality and injuries or not, the program was not producing at the level of years past. If you can’t see that, then you’re not paying attention. I am a true believer that programs have cycles and I just think it was a downswing for Tech. Take that however you want.
I personally don't think Coach Sharp would have stepped away from the game if she was still producing top 15 recruiting classes, and fielding teams that had a legitimate shot at getting to the Elite 8 or Final 4. When you lose your passion for the work it takes to get there or stay there, it’s only natural that things begin to change, good or bad. She made a decision to step aside and I think that's very commendable.

If Marsha were KR's age today, she'd probably be fine with a blog.
However like Chipper I'm not sure how Marsha's name got brought into this anyway. I'm not comparing MS to KC...there's no comparison :)
KC will do what she will, having a blog is great if she keeps it up and keeps it interesting.
My brain must be fried by this time on a Friday afternoon....... Anyway, when I read the heading of this thread..... "Kristy Curry has a blog" ....what immediately popped into my head was ...... E_I_E_I_O
I think I will go lie down and rest now.

in her compassion and even though it rankles some to hear her using the same terms for her players at TxTech as the ones she left at Purdue, I think she chooses those words and terms because they come from her heart. Curry was a great face in the community for Purdue and active in a lot of civic and social ways to help the community. She seems to be a truly warm and nice person, I am just not sure she is much of a basketball coach, but the next few years will write that out for all to see.
