Before we look at Nebraska vs. Cincinnati. Quick notes on the passing scene.
1. The BCS. I'm only going to say this ONE TIME.
IT'S THE SYSTEM, STUPID! Everybody just stop whining. It's the system. We reaped it, we sowed it.
I'm glad womens basketball doesn't do business like this.
2. Congratulations, Eric Crouch! Now, win that Rose Bowl.
3. Good Luck, Nebraska Volleyball. It will be the only national championship Nebraska will win this year probably. And the best part about it is, NOBODY can dispute.
Special good luck to National Player of the Year Candidates Nancy Metcalf, and Griechaly Cepero. (We're waiting for you Griech, because Katie Morse is BRUTAL!)
Now about tonight's game. It's really simple. A young, confident Cincinnati team that was 22-10 last year, and stand at 5-0 this year are thinking NCAA tournament.
Nebraska is 8-1, but like I said at the beginning of the year, it's mostly due to a weak schedule. These next two games on the road with the Bearcats and the Drake Bulldogs will really tell what kind of Nebraska effort will show up for Big 12 play.
WHAT I LIKE DURING THE "JABRONI" TOUR.
1. Keeasha Cannon: After being upbraided for an uninspired effort against Tulane, she put together 4 well-played games. Tonight opponent shoudl bring out the best in her. Junior point guard K.B. Sharp was a C-USA All-Tournament team selection last season. She's averaging 6 points and 6 rebounds. But the stat that strikes out at me is she averaged 37.7 minutes per game last year and 18 times last season, she clocked 40 minutes of playing time. This kid is an iron lady. #44, time for a gut check
2. Katie Robinette: The second part of the Special K's just keeps purring right along. She's averaged a solid 9 points and 5 rebounds in the last 4. At times, she's been a rookie, mostly on offense. But her defensive play is ahead of schedule. She's settling into the "rover" spot in Nebraska's zones nicely. Check out 4 blocks vs. TAMU-Corpus Christi
3. "Coochie, Coochie!!!!!": Stephanie "Charo" Jones is showing signs of life coming off the bench. 14 points vs. TAMU-Corpus Christi, a steady improvement from game to game. She's averaged 4 rebounds per game in her last 5 contests.
THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE IN THE JABRONI TOUR
1. Being outrebounded by TAMU Corpus-Christi. Okay it was 49-48, but when your shooting goes cold in stretches, the glass isn't half full.
2. K.C. Cowgill. Captain Cowgill is still hit and miss from the three point range when she gets the green light so far. Three games she's gotten at least 6 attempts..She's averaging 4 misses in those outings. Chalk it up to a slow start. I guess
3. Katie Morse. She's been virtually invisible. 0-4 vs. Weber State in 17 minutes? 1 rebound? 4 points vs. Texas Southern? Giving up 14 points and 10 rebounds to TAMU Corpus Christi's center who you outsized by 2 inches about 25 pounds?
She's had a good start to the season, but I'm worried about this kid, especially when facing Cincinnati's hotshot frosh Diane Morrill, who is averaging about 17 a game and coming off a 22 point 13 rebound game vs. Xavier

Chipper's Outlook: No two ways about it. It's a real test. If the lasses win, then Husker fans can start thinking about a competitive team in January when Big 12 play opens. If the lasses lose, this team is still phony.
We gotta rebound, we gotta hit those shots. Cincinnati won't grant them easy. They are fast on the perimeter, which means we may have to work harder to get Cowgill some launches.
Interior. we gotta attack this team. Especially with Cannon and Robinette, and with Roberts and Richards off the bench.
The lasses have been waiting for this chance to show that they aren't phony. WELL LADIES, SHOW ME SOMETHING!!!!!!
They will.....Nebraska 71, Cincinnati 66 http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
