View Full Version : Important: NCAA Tournament Security Guidelines
From cycloneillustrated.com:
NCAA Security Rules for the Women's Tournament
During the NCAA tournament games there will be a no re-admittance policy. Once in the building you must stay or buy another ticket.
Large bags shall be prohibited.
All bottles, cans and other containers, except in cases of medical need as certified by a physician, shall be prohibited.
All small bags will be inspected.
All patrons will be requested to return prohibited items to their vehicles, hotel rooms or homes.
A separate entrance will be established for individuals who are not carrying bags.
Also of note: This is post #972 for me! 28 to go! Of course, this is only since the format of the board changed...

For those of you who where the lucky ones that got to go to the Big 12 tournamnet were these the same guidelines they used in Kansas City. I has heard on the radio that there were long lines waiting to get into the game.

For the most part the rules were the same, especially the no readmitance. A kid from colorado was in bad straights because he needed to leave and they told him they would not allow him to come back. Due to the fact that my wife decided to spend time with the grandkids I had an extra ticket and gave it to him so he could go. Otherwise no way. I'm not sure I get how that really serves the purpose of security. It seems to me they could establish a checkout system with a pass like K-State does for regular season games without any harm. I did that on a game when we were sold out so there is no way there will be more fans to deal with. As an administrative bureaucrat type those sorts of policies irritate me. Sort of gives us "suits" a bad name.
I never had much of a problem with lines. The only grief I had in KC was finding a parking spot. That was for the REAL big XII tourney at Municipal Auditorium of course. Those misguided fans who went to that other tourney (mens) over at Kemper probably were the ones with lines. Kemper is notorious for being poorly managed, bad lines, bad service etc. You should hear the flap they get in KC for rock concerts etc. at Kemper.

We ran into long lines for one of the evening games - early on, I guess, since we ended up packing our bags and heading home. Security checked every bag, confiscated my water bottle because it could be used as a projectile (they must've seen right through my kindly old woman facade). But once inside, I could buy overpriced projectiles of water. Security also confiscated posterboard signs. I'm not sure why, but maybe I'm just not clever or imaginative enough to figure out how to cause bodily harm with a posterboard sign.

Yeah, Nicole Ohlde's Dad was passing out those plastic blow-up air filled KSU ballon sticks that you can clap together, and they made us put them under our seats under threat of taking them away. "NO ARTIFICAL NOISE MAKERS". Spoil sports. At least they couldn't take away our hands, feet and voices and we made noise with them.

They handed out those cheer sticks for a game last year in Ames. Then for the next game some of the kids brought them back and the ushers took then away. They said that the other team (can't remember who) complained and ISU got in trouble. I have seen them on TV since but not in Ames.

I hope they'll allow me to bring my 3 Point signs to hang off the balcony. Any ideas about that mred?
I'm still not happy with the starting times for the games. I realize they are for tv coverage, but come on, 9:30 on a Monday night for the second round game? ISU has built it's fan base on being a good event for FAMILIES! It's a school night after all, a lot of kids aren't going to be able to attend, and that's just a shame.
I'd recommend sneaking them in. They may allow you to hang them up, but the people at the door might not let you take them in.

The one thing they left off the list was NO CAMERAS allowed. They were meeting people outside and making us take the camera's back to the car. They said it was a NCAA rule and that there were NCAA people walking aroung and they were mean.

Good work 3 Point Land! Saw your 3's in the balcony! I'm glad that Mary Cofield kept you busy!

We were walking into Hilton and I put my Bag O' Threes up to be inspected. I just told the lady that they were the 3 Point Signs and she said "OKAY." very enthusiastically. The other women who was screening was one of our regular section ushers. She yelled over that they had asked about us in the usher meeting. They let us hang the signs without any problems! (Plus I got on ESPN2 twice!)
It was wierd being in Section 21 though. We actually watched the game the way you see it on tv as opposed to from the other side like we normally do. I'll be there again on Monday!

I alway wondered which 3 pointland you were so you normally see behind the team. It took us a while to find you last night.

Section 24 is my normal hangout, but the tickets we were issued were for Section 21. The ISU ticket office has been great about getting us front row balcony seats so we can hang the signs. We always refer to ourselves as the Real 3 Point Land as opposed to the other 3-Point Land that popped up across the arena. We were the originals! lol
ISUbballfan, email me if you get the chance. I didn't realize we both live in Nevada! What are the odds of that!

We're usually in Section 21 and got pushed across the arena in 18 for the first two rounds. It was a whole new game from the other side of the floor. Then I got home and watched the tape, and it was like I was seeing it for the first time. Not a bad thing. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
The people in my season ticket seats were sitting on their hands. No reaction whatsoever. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif The officials can't even hear me from the near nosebleed seats I ended up in.
Robert: glad you could get the signs in. I could just see the top of your head over the scoreboard. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Actually I usally look at the other 3 point land because I have a hard time seeing yours from my regular season tickets. They missed some games this year and I was hoping it wasn't you. It was after the comment in the paper about it being stupid to have more than 1 3 pointland but only 1/2 of Hilton can see 1. We were hoping that didn't stop them.

Well, I think the Trib made the comment because of having 2 "3 Point Lands" seemed a little redundant. I was always a little miffed because it was a flatout copy of my signs. But I got over it. I did notice that they took off the "3 Point Land" sign, but kept hanging the 3s.
Tammy, I know exactly what you are talking about. It was so wierd watching the game on tape exactly as I had seen it.
