Detroit won 77-73 in OT. Katie Smith hit an off-balance three-pointer to tie the game in regulation. Then, Detroit outscored Connecticut 8-4 in OT. Fascinating game.

Detroit dominated inside with Ruth Riley and cheryl Ford. Connecticut fell behind by 14 early. But, their guard play got them back into the game. Katie Douglas scored 18. Nykesia Sales scored 17. The most interesting player that I saw was Erin Phillips, a 5-10 guard from Australia who played a lot like Ivory Latta, only she played better defense. Connecticut came back with Douglas and Phillips leading the way. Phillips even shut down Katie Smith while she was on her. Katie couldn't get open.

For the most part, these players are a lot better than college players. But, they really don't shoot well. When the best of this group of college players hit the pros, I think it will change the game a little.

Look at Erin Phillips who is a 5-10 blond and explain to me why I think she looks like Ivory Latta.

Erin Phillips is listed as 5-7: http://www.wnba.com/playerfile/erin_phillips/index.html
(Latta is listed as 5-6, although that might be a tad high.)

The shooting percentages in this game (33% and 36% for Sun and Shock, respectively) were uncharacterisically low, as those teams hit 45% and 40% last season. But, they are two of the best defensive teams in the league.

Yahoo listed Phillips at 5-10 which is where I got my information. She didn't look 5-10, but she didn't look 5-7 either.

Erin Phillips has the same never say die energy that Latta brings to the court. I was impressed with the spark she brought in the game in ABQ against Sacremento.

Pierson had a good game...!
