I laughed so hard when I read that. It reminded me of the end of every Scooby Doo cartoon when the villain is unmasked and he says something like, "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids." :)
So did these recruits supposedly tell Kelvin this during the illegal phone conversations?

I'm not certain, OSU....I think that's the lead sports story in the DOK today.
I think the NCAA meeting is tomorrow, it will be interesting to see how that turns out. I think Indiana has put a clause in Kelvin Sampson's contract if there are any sanctions handed out.

Of course it is the lead sports story in the DOK. I don't know why the DOK doesn't just focus on the issue instead of trying to deflect negativity toward OSU. Well, actually we do know why, but it still doesn't make sense.
The Columbia Journalism Review is right. The Daily Joke-lahoman IS the worst newspaper in America. Hands down.
http://archives.cjr.org/year/99/1/worst.asp
"The paper is exactly how Mr. Gaylord wants it," says one insider. "It will not change as long as he is alive."
That's a shame, for under Ed Gaylord's watchful eye the Oklahoman has effectively become a newspaper in reverse -- a virulent, compromised beast that sucks intelligence from its readers and replaces it with intolerance, triviality, and false scandal. So inured to "The Daily Disappointment" are many Oklahomans that they simply ignore it, having long ago abandoned hope that the newspaper could ever make them proud.
"In many parts of Oklahoma," says Rev. Meyers, "The Daily Oklahoman is the window to the world, yet it tries to keep us fearful and bigoted. You hear a lot about that Oklahoma pride and spirit, but actually this state has a deep inferiority complex. Still, there is nothing wrong with Oklahoma that a great newspaper couldn't solve."
And nowhere in America is one more desperately needed.

I think the Daily O has changed since 1999.
Hasn't Eddie Gaylord retired or passed on his editorship?
I like it a lot better the past two years or so than I have in year's past. At least now I can read it, and not just use it as birdcage paper ;)

I thought the installation of indoor plumbing precluding the need for the Daily Oklahoman.

Indiana has Sampson escape clause
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Indiana University would not have to pay any penalty to new basketball coach Kelvin Sampson if the school were to fire him because of NCAA sanctions stemming from recruiting violations while he was at Oklahoma.
The contract Sampson signed April 20 says Indiana "may take further action, up to and including termination" if the NCAA "imposes more significant penalties or sanctions than the University of Oklahoma's self-imposed sanctions." ...
The contract also explicitly states that Sampson is not eligible during his first year for performance bonuses, such as for winning the Big Ten title. It also gives the school the right to fire Sampson without obligation if his assistant coaches commit serious or repeated NCAA rules violations.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/basketball/ncaa/05/08/bc.bkc.indiana.sampson.ap/index.htmlSounds like Indiana hired Sampson while holding their noses. :p Couldn't they find a good coach with a clean record?
