Bball Girl..You got what you wanted.

If you can't like this game after the brilliant battle we've see in the last 8 minutes of play...you never will.

A grand advertisement for this game tonight....and an EXCELLENT job by ESPN across the board from preview to the game itself. :)

I CAN'T BELIEVE that Coleman was going inside with no intention of missing, and Frese called a TO just before her good jumper. That was a killer and may have given the game to Duke.

PS - I'm not a wrestling expert.

TOLIVER WOW!!!!! We have to deal with this kid for 3 more years!!!

This was national championship basketball tonight!!!!!!

Duke and Maryland are champs regardless of result! :)

Do the announcers not realize that if a player is injured and needs to shoot free throws, her replacement on the FT line has to come from the bench?

and that's interesting, neither team has lost a game in overtime this season.

That slam was legal in wrestling, just not so nice in basketball. This is, as Sherri says, a contact sport. Sometimes, there is a bit too much contact.

This is why I thought that MC was one of the top 3 HS players last year, and why I thought that Maryland was a top 10 team, even though no one was talking about them at the start of the season.

I thought Tolliver won the game for Maryland. She was clutch throughout the final four. Those last five points in regulation were clutch.

I would say who she reminds me of, but nobody would like it.

Sade Wiley-Gatewood transferred to play behind Tolliver?

I completely forgot she transferred there. Maybe she thought she had a better chance of winning a title at Maryland than at Tennessee ;)

Congratulations to Maryland!

Sade Wiley-Gatewood transferred to play behind Tolliver?Certainly KT was the front man, but if you want to know the truth, look inside the trenches. Coleman played an amazing game, and her free throws - as a true freshman under enormous pressure - clinched the win.

And SWG will not start more than one game at Maryland, and if she starts one, it will be on senior day.

According the the stats on Yahoo, Wiley-Gatewood started eight games for Maryland this year. I didn't see them, and she didn't play tonight. I wonder how all of that happened?

I like Coleman, and I think Coleman was very underrated this year. I thought she was the star of the Maryland team until the tournament. In the tournament, I thought Tolliver took over at key times. Langhorne seems to have a tendency to dominate only when not under pressure. This is a freshman team.

It will be fun challenging them for the next three years.

I would check the facts a little closer, because she's almost a year away from her 1-1/2 remaining seasons.

There's a lot of guts to match that talent on Maryland. I've give anything to see Nebraska play with kind of skill, daring and heart.

I'm jealous and I'll admit it. Brenda Frese has the type of team I want to root for. A lot of talent..and you can't make them quit.

On the other sideline...Once again, Duke had it in reach. They just couldn't grab it.

FEAR THE TURTLE!!!!

after every team that I wanted to win lost in the last few days...I yelled for Duke out loud, but yelled for the Turtle inside!

A hell of a game! Chipper - I loved IT!!!
Thank you Duke and Maryland for an excellent game!
I know it's a cliche, but it's a shame anyone had to lose this game. But WBB won tonight!

These young Terps have been really a blast to watch! I've loved Coleman and Tolliver since I saw them play Tennessee - very special kids!.

I feel bad for Monique Currie and Lindsey Harding - they were terffic tonight too.

Chipper, I don't think Nebraska is that far behind, nor is the Big Twelve. Nebraska has two players that Maryland or Duke would love to have. Kansas State has several young and talented kids. Texas has several that are athletes. Baylor has Morrow and Allison. There is some talent in the Big Twelve. What we don't have is depth. We have two or three really good players. They have seven or eight.

Remember, Baylor won it last year, and Baylor was that good or better.

okay, i watched the replay and Doron had her arm in Mistie's and i think a foul
should have been called sooner...........wish i could have seen the end of the play, but i don't see how Doron had not been called for a foul BEFORE anyone went down..........no matter how you feel about EITHER player

It does seem that every time there has been a takedown, it was due to a reach in foul that should have reached out.

I agree with one part of your statement sy, and I disagree with one part.

The Big 12 as an league has at least one contending team in it now. Oklahoma is on the short list for the next few years. The Paris Twins alone get OU on the grid, plus, they have some player coming in who have the potential to move them into the front ranks. After that, I see Texas A&M making a move into an elite category as well. They have the developing players and they have a coach who has developed a formula that can win.
Down the order, the potential is there. Baylor has to get some new faces in. Texas has the athleticism, but they are light in terms of fundamentals and may have to change some tactics and strategies to harness what they have.
Kansas State has the potential, but just like their storied predecessors they have to show that they can beat teams that are among the elite level. The WNIT Championship is great, but that's a long way from beating the talent level that won the NCAA Championship.

I definitely disagree on your assessment of Nebraska. My Huskers have one player who could crack the lineup on one of the Final Four teams from this past season. Overall, I think I'm about 4-8 years and a maybe a coaching change away from seeing a Nebraska team with Final Four potential, based on what I've seen and what is coming.
The biggest difference isn't so much isn't the talent gap, its the toughness gap. Maryland was very talented, but also they were very focused mentally. This team cameback from not playing well to getting in gear and making the plays and believing they could make those plays. We are talking about a team that is 6-and-0 in overtime. It take a very resolute group of kids to pull off wins like last night. Its takes a combination of intelligence and iron will.
My team doesn't have the game intelligence nor the toughness to reach the level I've seen from the Sweet 16 forward. Better teams can and have intimidated Nebraska, and sissified basketball teams do not win the national championship. When that adjective no longer applies to my team, then we can talk about scarlet and cream in the Final Four.

I was cheering hard for the Turtle, but enjoyed every minute of that game. It seems cliche, but truly a shame someone had to lose. I think Coach Frese could win another few titles before she's said and done. It's nice to see a local girl make good! ;)

I have been watching the replay and I agree that a foul should have been called sooner...............
Williams was trying to set a screen and they tangled arms. Then Doron locked her arm onto Mistie's (While Mistie had actually put her hands out like she making it obvious that she wasn't doing the holding.) and spun around causing Williams to lose her balance. Williams was falling and Doron was too busy making faces at the ref and she apparently forgot to let go of Mistie's arm. If Doron had unlocked her arm, I don't think she would have fallen. I have always liked Doron, but I don't see her as a victim in that incident. She got hurt on a dirty play, but she was able to get the call she wanted so I bet she felt it was a good trade.

It was a fun game..........much better than the men's final. Overall both tournaments were really fun to watch.

I had not watched Maryland play all year until the Baylor game in Albuquerque. They are a fun team to watch, very athletic and quick. My brother wanted to place a little wager on the game last night, I should have taken him up on it. He knew Duke was going to win, but I never waivered. The second half was going to belong to Maryland.

I am really impressed with Brenda Frese.

Great game by both teams.

Congrats to the Terps!

I have to give ESPN HD props for the telecast! As someone else mentioned, Mike Patrick was a little lame. Overall grade from my perspective--A.

In the first half I thought "Oh no, the way Duke is playing, this will be no game at all." By the time it was over, I had awaken half the neighborhood and went to bed exhausted and thoroughly pleased at the quality of that game. What an absolutely marvelous final game! It is a shame someone had to lose; but, none of the players should hang their heads, they put it all out and left it on the floor--it was just great.
