OK...tell me what this says
Former Purdue coach Kristy Curry was introduced as the new leader of the Lady Raider program, and while players were pleased and excited about the decision, their thoughts also were on the Tech assistants who were forced to resign a day earlier.
Tech athletic director Gerald Myers said Thursday that everyone on Sharp's staff except assistant athletic director for Lady Raider special projects Russell Warren, administrative assistant Marcy Phillips and Vicky McKenzie were retained. McKenzie, who worked as director of basketball operations for Sharp, will now be an assistant athletic director for special projects and take over some event management duties in the fall, Myers said. The other members of the staff who resigned will be reassigned within the athletic department for up to three months or until they receive another job.
1. The assistant coaches were forced to resign - ok got that
2. "Everyone on Sharp's staff except Warren, McKenzie and Phillips were retained" - that is the staff except for Melinda and Tami Wilson.
3. McKenzie will be assist. athletic drector....
4. The other members of the staff who resigned will be reassigned
So, who's being retained? The trainer, SID, and strength coach work for the athletic dept and are assigned to the LR's. I know they're staying.
Tami Wilson (Darrice & Teddy Griffin's mom) was forced to resign.
So..that leaves Melinda?

I don't know if Myers got his words jumbled (highly possible) or the AJ left out a word or two, but that one sentence doesn't sound right.
My understanding was that Russell Warren, the marketing guy, and the admin assistant are the only two remaining that were specifically assigned to the LRs.
Sounds like MacKenzie was reassigned w/in the AD. The rest will be gone unless Curry decides to add them to her staff which I doubt.

If Tami Wilson goes, will the Griffin sisters stay?
I have heard that frosh player Coles will leave; does anyone know about Henderson, Enrica, Morris, et al?

The news was especially hard to handle for Darrice and Teddy Griffin, whose mother Tami Wilson was forced to resign after serving as video coordinator for the Lady Raiders the last two seasons.
Darrice said that she and her sister planned on returning to the team next season despite their mother's situation.
"We both fully intend on playing next season and staying here until we graduate. That was our goal when we signed, and that's what we want to do," Griffin said. "It's going to be difficult, but you have to try and make the best out of every situation. I'm excited about next season and the new coach, and I just want to try to play my best for the team."
It remains to be seen how many Lady Raiders will return next season - freshman Krystal Cole transferred to Tarleton State earlier this week - or which players Curry will keep. Scholarships are renewed on a yearly basis, so Curry could choose not to renew some of them.
As for the players, junior guard Brooke Baughman was confident that the remaining 12 players will choose to return to the team next season.
Former Estacado standout LaVonda "Tiny" Henderson said she was one of them.
"It's a new coach, but it's still Lady Raider basketball," Henderson said. "I've always wanted to play at Texas Tech, and I'm going to stay here. I'm really excited about coach Curry and what she'll be able to do here

The AJ said today that redshirt sophomore Enrica Johnson will probably not return as she graduates this year and was absent from the press conference.
I really hate that injuries prevented her making her mark. She had so much potential and was a lovely, special person.

Me too...she was such a sweetie! But could never overcome those injuries.

Patrick Gonzales is driving me crazier all the time with his contradictory comments.
1st he says
But the biggest question mark for next season may be the status of redshirt senior Chesley Dabbs. Dabbs was an all-Big 12 Conference performer her junior season before tearing the anterior cruciate ligament and medial meniscus in her left knee weeks before the start of the 2005-06 campaign.
and my heart sinks, lose Chesley?
Then he says
"I've had a chance to talk to Chesley, and she sounds excited about coming back," Curry said. "She's going to be a vital part of our program, and we want to do everything we can to make sure she'll be with us next season. I'm looking forward to coaching her.
So how does part A work with part B? Part B suggests all is well, Part A leaves a question whether Ches is coming back. Darn him.
Isn't he just referring to the normal uncertainty attending recovery from any serious injury? You pretty much just have to wait and see.

So the apparent returners will be:
Brooke Baughman, Senior
Chesley Dabbs, Senior (Redshirt)
Tawanna Flowers, Junior
LaVonda "Tiny" Henderson, Sophomore
Darchelle "Teddy" Griffin, Sophomore
Darrice Griffin, Junior
Megan Morris
Erin Myrick, Junior
Alesha Robertson, Senior
Judith Smith, Junior
Now, what about Dominic Seals (currently at South Plains) and Patrice Edwards?

walkaway...since Seals was academically ineligible, she has to stay at a juco for another year.
no word on Patrice. Marsha once said Patrice was graduating and made it sound like she might want to go home and since her knees are so bad.

If that's the available talent plus Jordan Murphree, what would your starting lineup or rotation look like? DblT81, TTU79, B-Ball girl, elfdenmom?
TTU79

Starting lineup: Chesley, Alesha, Brooke at point guard, Erin and Darrice. First off the bench: Jordan, Tawanna, Tiny and Teddy. Megan and Judith's roles will depend on attitude change during preseason. Both could be real contributers.

Baughman pt
Myrick
Griffin
Dabbs
Robertson
1st off the bench
Murpree pg
Christian for Robertson
Henderson for Dabbs
Flowers for Griffin
Myrick (who comes in for Myrick)...hopefully Morris
T. Griffin's in there too.
Judith and Patrice are unknowns.
We've got a scholarship to give, so maybe Curry can find a Juco post player.

I keep hearing Patrice is done :(
I'll confess, there were a dozen times this season I would've paid Judith's plane fare back to California. Hopefully that's all behind her now. It would be nice to have her flair and fire working for the Lady Raiders.

And that could be a single source rumor that is repeatedly posted on internet message boards or repeated in conversations in Lubbock.
Or it could be true. So far, only Cole's transfer has been confirmed.

So Kenzie Cole comes to OSU for one year, plays pretty well (not a ton of talent, but maybe the biggest heart on the team) and then transfers to SMU to be closer to her family.
Krystal Cole goes to Tech, plays a little (I know NOTHING about her other than being Kenzie's sister) and transfers to Tarleton STate to be closer to home.
Let me first say I loved watching Kenzie play, and I'm not trying to say anything negative about the Coles.
But Krystal's bio says she has a younger sister, Kamy.
I don't believe I'd recruit her unless my college was located IN Brock, Texas.

In this case my source was Marsha Sharp. Marsha said (a couple of times on her radio show) that Patrice graduates in May, her knees are those of a 60 year old, and we will see what happens after the season.
She didn't say she was leaving, she didn't say she was staying, and she did suggest that there was a question.
Not a rumor, but a question.

My lineup would be:
Brooke at point with Jordan as backup.
Dabbs at 2 or 3
Alesha at 2 or 3 (Tiny, Teddy or Judith as backup.)
Darrice at 4 (Tawanna or Megan as aback up)
Myrick at C (Patrice as backup if available.)
When Dabbs goes out, I would move Brooke to her position and play Jordan at
PG. (Brooke has great stamina and could be floor leader when Dabbs is off the floor). If Brooke needs a breather, I would do it while Dabbs and Jordan are on the floor.
If Tawanna improves her shooting over the summer, she could use her defensive skills in relief of Alesha or Dabbs if we were playing someone like Stanford's Wiggins.
If Patrice is not available, I would go to a smaller lineup with Darrice at 5, Alesha at 4, Dabbs at 3, Brooke at 2 and Jordan at point.

Excellent points elf! I've always liked Brooke at the 2 and I agree that it is important to have that senior leadership.

I do not think that Brooke will start at point guard next year. She showed the last part of the year that the two guard position is the best for her. I look for Chesley to reclaim the two if she is healthy enough and either Jordan or Christian to be the point guard. That is pure speculation on my part since I haven't seen either of the new recruits play.

I wondered about Jordan at the PG too. Mid seasonish when Marsha talked about the recruits, she said that fans would like Jordan at the PG. I think we're all looking for Brooke to be rewarded for her leadership this season and she's shown the ability to knock down some big shots. It will be interesting to see what happens.
