We have room for 2 more if anyone wants to join. Please post by tomorrow night so we can get the draft order ready. We will use the Hoops scoop chat room, (thanks commish and mred); I will post the address and hour before draft time Thursday night. Again, the draft will be held 7pm, CST, Thursday night. Be prompt. The rules of order are thus:
1/ We will ask zo31 to put everyone's name in a hat just prior to selection time and pick 'em. We trust you, zo. Then we will begin the draft in that order, but as I said before, we will do it in serpentine. To use an example, if we had 3 in the draft (1/swok, 2/ycn and 3/zo31) then the order would be swok, ycn, zo31, zo31, ycn, swok, swok, ycn, zo31, zo31, etc, etc. Does everyone understand that? Again, it just ensures those with bad draft order have a chance. And yes, guys, I've won from back in the pack.
2/ I will call each drafter in order. Give me the name of your player and university you select. I will note them on my papers; so please realize it may take me a little time to do that and also cross out that name from my own personal list. Remember, I'm administering this and participating at the same time! All of you should cross out the name selected on your own lists. Actually, doing this online will be helpful in that you don't have to ask someone to repeat their selection.
3/ While the picks will go somewhat fast at the beginning, it will get slower as each person's list becomes depleted and also as you try to use strategy to fill out your brackets with players instead of loading up in a region. So as I ask for your selections, type in "ok" if you don't have an instant decision. Therefore, I know you are there and we can just wait.
4/ After the draft, I will publish the team lists. Every day after the weekend rounds, I will publish standings. Again, I ask each person to double check your players scores. I think I've maybe gotten 3 scores wrong in my long career as commissioner, but we want to make sure everything is correct and it doesn't hurt to double check me.
Again, here is the scoring: The top FIVE, and only top 5, scores will count in each round. Scores are cumulative. At the end, high score wins.
Hints:
--Don't only pick high scorers but those who will go far in
the tourney. (therefore, become familiar with all starters
and top subs of the top teams)
--Don't load up players in one region or sub-region. They will
beat each other out. Now, don't overlook a good pick for
for that reason either.
--When you do your homework, have more names ready than will
be picked.
DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Bring rosters of the teams and the bracket to the draft to help you pick. You will constantly be using both.
See ya Thursday night...
Since us league owners are all in the same boat...
And since I was the first to reply, I guess that means I have exclusive rights to the Big12, right?
(OK, I'm just kidding!)

Vickie1ok, Tomorrow is my anniversary and I am taking my wife to dinner and won't be back home until 9:30 or 10:00. There is no way I can make the 7:00 draft. Could someone else draft my players? I am easy to please. Swok, would you choose for me? Please!!!! I trust your choices. Otherwise, I won't be able to play. Maybe I can E-mail you some picks.

Sure, Zo, you can have someone pick for you. If I was sure I could get home from work earlier, I would do it a little earlier. If you have sw pick for you, I would suggest sending a list so she has something to go on. Just let me know!
Everyone, we are still on! SW, I'll let you pick names for drafting order. We trust you...
Vickie, I'm ready!
I have my list and it is prioritized. I also have my bracket figured out and submitted.
Hey, let's get it on!
For anyone in the draft, I have various versions of a list of all players listed on the rosters of all the NCAA teams. If you would like to have this info, in order to save some time, just email me at danhi@concentric.net.
I have the files available as an Excel spreadsheet, tab-delimited text, fixed-length delimited text, or comma-separated values.
If you email me, just specify which you want and I will email the file(s) to you.
The data in the files is sorted first by region, then by seed (ascending), then by average points per game (descending).
If you are behind on your homework, this will be a lifesaver to you!
Go Big XII!

Hah, I knew you would be first to have done your homework, YCN! I'm just starting, but if you could email the excel spreadsheet to vweimar@cms.cendant.com I would appreciate it greatly. It will save me retyping, if nothing else.

Zo.........I'll pick for you....
I've made up my list of about 50 players and numbered my players according to how I think their team will finish...I have a copy of the USA Today with the Team Capsules if I have to go digging further for more. And I promise not to saddle you with someone like Sarah Judd, Oakland, 20.3 pts per game......who'll probably be eliminated in the 1st game..... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
Tell me your Sweet Sixteen teams, Elite 8, Final 4 and then Final 2 and any players you want priority with. Email...swok34@swbell.net

YCN.........would you please email to me in tab-deliminated text, I sometimes have trouble with Excel files..since I'm picking for 2, I better have all my bases covered.

No, really, swok!! Put names in a hat and draw them out. We trust you. I don't expect any advantage; we've always done a random drawing, although, like I said, I've won from back in the pack before.

You all seem to be doing your homework, but I (as always) haven't done my homework. I didn't think I would need to "prepare" for this, but I will have to I guess. I might end up last place, but hey, at least I tried! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/biggrin.gif http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

up to you all.........I thought the way I did it the first time was pretty fair, kinda first come, first serve, in a sense.

Thanks, Susan, I will e-mail a list to you. Do I actually get the first pick. Homer Time!!! #31.

Alright, I guess I'll start planning out my draft for tomorrow. See ya'll there!
I've been working hard. I'm trying to pare down my list from about 200 players... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
Ok... Finally cut my list down to 179 players. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif Don't worry; it's pretty well organized and will definitely help me make decisions faster, not slower.
swok34
03-14-2002, 10:09 AM
179 players???.......wow, I've got about 50 and I dipped down into my Sweet Sixteen teams to get those......
Well, I went all the way down to teams I thought would probably lose in the first round, just in case I need to bolster early-round scoring. I have no idea how the players will fall, so I figured I'd leave all options open. After all, 80 players will be drafted.
swok34

How many players do we pick?......10, I thought it was 5...gotta go back to my list and increase it.

Yeah. The strategy comes in because you have 10 players but only your top 5 scorers for each round count. Therefore, it might be advantageous to pick a player that could get you 20+ppg but only be around for a couple of rounds.

vickie1ok,
I will not be able to be logged on at 7 pm tonight. My mom's b-day is tonight and we will be out celebrating. Can I forward a list of players to you? You could simply take the topmost player that hasn't been taken yet and assign that person to me. Only thing is, I need from you your email address (oh, I see it now above) and your estimate of how many players I should put on my list. I suppose I need 100 players since we have 10 teams of 10 players.
Just a question......of those participating - do ya'll go to bed early? I would really like to participate, but like Zo, I wouldn't be able to till like 9:00 or 9:30 CST or so. Any chance we could move the start time from 7 pm back a little? I know I'm asking a lot on short notice so don't hesitate to tell me "no - that's a ludicrous suggestion!".

I'm usually up until midnight and I have nothing going on tonight, so I don't care either way.

All right swok34, YCN, RaiderPower1, zo31, and ISUbballfan. I need your input ASAP. Can we move the draft back from 7 pm to say, around 9:30 pm tonight???
swok34
03-14-2002, 04:33 PM
I'm okay with any time.......not 1 am, but 9:30's ok with me.
someone may need to email the others, namely vickie.

I emailed everyone. Let me know if you didn't get my email. So far vickie1ok, mred, swok34, me, and I would assume Zo are cool with this. Waiting on RaiderPower1, ISUbballfan, and YCN.

Well, I'm really getting into this. I've set up a column of potential points in YCN's database where I simply multiply number of games they could potentially play by their average. And I've done some other things - things I'll discuss after the draft http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif But wouldn't you know it, a Big 12 player comes up as the #1 player to grab in this draft on my spreadsheet. Now I just have to see if Zo or vickie get her before I do!

AFter talking with vickie looks like we will start at 9:30 instead of 7 tonight. Thanks everyone for accomodating me! Appreciate it.
Only haven't heard from RaiderPower1 or YCN - but we felt it was a good bet you two could switch to 9:30.

9:30 is great!!!! See ya'll then.
ISUbballfan
03-14-2002, 08:06 PM
9:30 is fine with me also. I lurk at work but don't like to post from there. I think Schooner got mu email.
RaiderPower1
03-14-2002, 08:31 PM
Well, I guess so...I really would have liked it at 7:00 but I can do 9:30. It'll be 9 against 1 anyways. I'll be there at 9:30 then! See yall there.
Wow, nobody heard from me because I completely lost track of the time.
I would have agreed anyway to the time change - I'm on Mountain Time.
Schooner, don't you DARE draft that player before I do!
ChipperF1
03-14-2002, 10:00 PM
IF the draft is moved back...MAY I PLAY TOO???? PLEASE?
PRETTY PLEASE? Angie Welle Pretty Please? LaNeisha Caulfield pretty please?
Chipper, do you think you are qualified to draft against us experts?
Please submit your resume to the gamemaster, and let her decide your worth!

Why don't I set up another forum for our game here just like I do for Hoopla! It will be easier to follow all the discussion about the game there. Only one problem.....what's the name of the game we are playing? Anybody have a suggestion?
It will have to be next year, 'scoop - we've already done the draft.
HoopScoop
03-15-2002, 02:15 AM
I realize the draft is done. I'm saying as we follow along and discuss how the players drafted are doing and when vickie gives point total updates after each round. All that info should be posted on another forum so it is easier to keep track of.
Now if we can just come up with a name for the game.....
vickie1ok
03-15-2002, 02:45 AM
THanks, commish, for allowing us this forum. As for a name? I dunno, my friends and I have done this for years in the men's side. We just call it our annual NCAA tourney draft. I guess it's a fantasy ncaa tourney team. Maybe next year we can come up with a name. I'll put my thinking cap on...
HoopScoop
03-15-2002, 08:43 AM
For now I'll just call it the NCAA Tourney Challenge. Everyone, if you would go to that Forum to discuss anything about or relating to the challenge.
