Uh-oh, the Uconn fans are going to be peeved about this. Only 1 first teamer? That's a shame! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif (sorry Bark, you know I'm just kidding, and don't mean you anyway).
I do think it's a disgrace that Lambert is third team (even with the love affairs the media have with Powell and Taurasi).
Here's a better list, including points received and honorable mention picks.
FIRST TEAM
Sue Bird, Connecticut, 5-9, senior, 13.7 ppg, 5.9 apg, 54 3-pointers, .929 ft pct. (41 first-team votes, 214 total points)
Alana Beard, Duke, 5-11, sophomore, 19.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 4.6 apg, 3.2 steals. (36, 204)
Chantelle Anderson, Vanderbilt, 6-6, junior, 20.2 ppg, 6.3 rpg, .659 fg pct. (37, 200)
Stacey Dales, Oklahoma, 6-0, senior, 17.3 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 4.9 apg. (28, 177)
LaToya Thomas, Mississippi State, 6-2, junior, 24.9 ppg, 9.7 rpg, .577 fg pct (19, 140).
SECOND TEAM
Swin Cash, Connecticut, 6-2, senior, 15.2 ppg, 8.9 rpg, .550 fg pct. (14, 133)
Angie Welle, Iowa State, 6-4, senior, 20.5 ppg, 11.1 rpg, .666 fg pct. (9, 133)
Nicole Powell, Stanford, 6-2, sophomore, 16.6 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 3.3 apg, 58 3-pointers (7, 118 )
Diana Taurasi, Connecticut, 5-11, sophomore, 14.4 ppg, 5.2 apg, 79 3-pointers, .514 fg pct. (7, 97)
Kelly Mazzante, Penn State, 6-0, sophomore, 25.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 92 3-pointers. (7, 92)
THIRD TEAM
Sheila Lambert, Baylor, 5-7, senior, 20.0 ppg, 6.3 apg, 3.2 steals. (3, 87)
Lindsay Whalen, Minnesota, 5-8, sophomore, 21.7 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 5.3 apg, .556 fg pct. (2, 58 )

Jennifer, Should UConn fans have expected more than one Husky on the first team? I have no idea and neither should most of them. From a sheer nums standpoint, with over 3,800 DI players, expecting two in the top five would be a pretty hopeful stretch.
I've only seen about 2/3 of the listed players and half of those only for a game or two, so for me (and I bet for most UConn fans) to pass judgement of the selections would be pretty dumb. But on the boneyard there's probably some complaining of this player vs that player, and on other boards the same going in different directions--chaos. This type of beauty contest thing is like judging ice skating (the sport that never was).
Sue Bird is a very important player to the team and I guess the AP thinks she is the best of the team, but the strength of the UConn team is the sum and not the parts.
Separately, I'm also glad to see Zuzi mentioned. And I also think Sheila Lambert and Lindsay Whalen are a terrific players, but again, should they get more or higher votes than others (especially players like Thomas and Mazzante who I haven't seen too much of), I can't say.
Since we probably will play Penn State, I better start paying attention to what Mazzante can do.
Just took a quick click to the boneyard, not much going on...it suppertime. We'll see if they take ice skating seriously.

Congrats to all on the post season awards. Especially Lambert on receiving the Naismith award. That is great! Probably the destruction of Texas Tech in Kansas City that sealed that one for her. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif
I said last year what a special player I thought Dales was--so please don't think I don't appreciate her play. But, I wanted to give a special tribute to Angie Welle.
I had hardly even heard of Iowa State when one night in 1998 I'm listening to the crackly radio broadcast of the Lady Raiders game from Ames, Iowa. (I'm not trying to make this sound like the 1940's with the radio static. The station I had to listen to had a weak signal and I didn't know about the internet broadcasts then.) Anyway, some upstart team with Grimm, Olson, Frese and Taylor were beating the #5 Texas Tech team. Well, I was glad that Grimm and Olson would be gone the next season.
Oops. Got to watch what you wish for. I've *hated* Angie Welle ever since. Well, not really. Her freshman season, she came to Lubbock where the Raiders got revenge and she didn't look so hot. Since then, she has been a pain in the side. Literally. Watching her do that... that.... *noodle* shot as a TV analyst called it last year. And watching it go in time after time. Ugh! The pain. The agony....at least for Texas Tech and other B12 fans. This photo reminded me of all those battles between Welle and my Lady Raiders.

See that elbow about to be planted in Ayers side? A real pain in the side, just like I said. Until last year, I thought, 'How in the world can the refs not see her foul on every shot? She's gettin' away with murder out there. She's traveling. Its not right!' Then I listened to Stacy Stephens' post game comments after playing Welle-- about how Stacy learned so much after playing against Welle. She learned about position and moves and stuff. Great stuff.
I looked at Welle from a different view point when she came to Lubbock last year. I was in awe how that awkward noodle scoop thingy was so effective. And man, she looks like a guard when she shoots free throws. And then, the ultimate. Jolee Ayers started making Angie Welle moves this year. Ayers had a few games with 20+ points with those moves. Now, Ayers is built more like Stephens than the lanky Welle so her move is not so noodly, but I swear Jolee is trying to imitate some of Angie's moves. Sincere flattery, IMO. In fact, it has really got some Tech fans upset, asking why the heck Ayers is trying to scoop the ball to the basket. I know why. She wants to be an All-American too.
Best of luck to Welle in the WNBA, if that's what she wants. She is a class act on the court....even when she gets away with murder. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif Gosh-a-mighty I'm glad Tech doesn't have to play her anymore. And that is the very best thing I could say about her. Go http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/isu.gif

I've seen every home game for the last four years, and STILL can't figure out how that thing goes in! Sometimes I swear it looks like her arms are too long for her body!
Welle is an EXTREMELY intelligent player. She scoops under the defense because that's what the defense is giving her. Being a post player myself, the normal reaction to the defense is to shoot over the top or muscle under them. Welle's method is quite unorthodox, and highly effective. Can't beleive to this date that teams haven't caught on to her tendancies. As a player, I know exactly how to defend it but won't share that. Let the others figure it out for themselves!!! I still hope ISU gets Tennessee!!!!

Great post DblT81. While I won't miss Welle, it will be sad to see her go. I think what Jolee has picked up from her is nice. I have really seen a change in Jolee since first playing against Kansas. I'd like to thank Angie Welle for helping Jolee develop. It only took two games for Jolee to pick up on the noodle shot. I think Jolee uses is very effectively. The up-and-under will work wonders against shot blockers which is why if Tenn. and ISU play, Welle will have her way with Snow. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I've always thought Welle's post game is one of a kind and no one can seem to figure out how to contain her. No one thus far has really stopped her once she gets the ball down low. Last weekend at KC, I was sitting pretty close to the floor and just watched all the beating that she takes in the paint. She is so strong and just muscles shots in that any other post player would miss. She clearly is not a jump shooter, so you know she won't go over you, so where does she go but under the defender.
I think Ayers has learned to do a pretty good job learning to body up against her and make it hard for her to get around her. Ayers cannot jump too high and has to figure out ways to score without getting blocks.
I hope Angie has the best of luck in the WNBA. I'll have to admit that I wonder if her style will be as effective there as it has been in college. I guess we'll soon find out. What we do know is that she can run the floor, shoot ft's and a 3 every now and then, which is more than some of the WNBA players.

Hey Bark, I was only kidding with my comment.
I don't see enough games or know enough to judge who should be on my AA team (mine would just be very Big 12 biased http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif).
Yeah, Jennifer, I know you were just kidding, but I posted earlier that I'm not a fan of whining - even if it's for my teams.
You're cool.
ps. Saw you're post about male coaches in a different thread...interesting. FYI, I'm a male HS coach (not basketball), and have some gals on one of my teams.

Welle, has definitely been the best post player in the Big 12 so far. Hate to see her career come to an end, but then again as a Sooner fan, I'm not that upset! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif She absolutely dominated Oklahoma every time ISU played us.
Again, it will be interesting to see how she does in the WNBA. She'll look much more like a finesse player in that league. But I think her moves and intelligence may just get her over the hump. I'll definitely pay attention to her career.
