I watched the Iowa State-Mississippi State game on ESPN and am worn out. Not because of the excitement of the game, but it was the announcers. They have good basketball knowledge, but they just try to cram in non-stop information during the game. Some of it just didn't have anything to do with the game. They were talking about Barry Bonds and UCONN recruiting while the ball was in play.
Then during one timeout, they were showing the Iowa State bench and were talking about the two transfers sitting out this season for the Cyclones. They talked a little about Nina Smith, and then out of the blue talked about someone who transfered from UCONN to Purdue. Then they mentioned Anne O'Neil, the other Cyclone transfer.
One picky lack of homework mistake. That injured Cyclone on the bench is Erica JUNE-oh, not ju-NODE.
I hate to be too critical because I really appreciate the coverage of women's basketball by ESPN, but they just need to tell those announcers to chill out a little. Then I think they would be great.

Yes, Nancy Lieberman and company drove me crazy all during last summer's WNBA season. I often just turned off the sound. Most of the network WNBA broadcasts were bad. Many of the local WNBA broadcasts which I watched on cable were much better even when the color analysis was, naturally, locally oriented. The networks just refuse to think we are really interested in the game on the court. To be honest, I've watched some men's tv basketball broadcasts with announcers who seem to have little interest in the game at hand. Even more annoying is when the camera cuts to people in the stands while the ball is in play which often happens at NBA as well as WNBA and college games.

When we got home and viewed the tape, we found the announcers to be a little chatty. But I would rather have them say too much and get 98% of it right than say virtually nothing and mess up all the facts and mispronounce everyone's name - like the idiot who did the ISU/Baylor game last season in the Big XII quarterfinals. Example: "Erica how-JEN" over and over and over. Duh.

For some reason virtually all the TV analysts seem to think we are all absolutely panting to hear everything about UConn and Tennessee. That must be why we are watching a Big XII game! Duh!
