from yesterday's game. It'd been a few games since I'd seen one.

Looks like Angie's tongue is sticking out, too. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Actually, I think this is becoming the mark of the "Big XII". There is a picture of KSU's Brie Madden doing the same thing in today's KC Star.......and they say Stacey Dales had the Michael Jordan tongue thing going http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Wouldn't you know it.....I open up Friday's K.C. Star and there is Wilson with her tongue stuck out in last night's game with Baylor. I'll have to save that one.

We need to make an all-tongue team. Dales, Wilson, and Welle would be on it. Tongue MVP is definitely Wilson http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/tongue.gif http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/tongue.gif http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/tongue.gif

Well finally ... I could never understand what you midwest guys mean by "guns up" but at least with pictures I now know what "tongues out" means.

Hey bark: Any speculation on where UConn might be placed? It's looking likely that UConn, Tennessee, Duke, and OU will be the four 1 seeds. If so, Duke might be placed in the East, OU will likely go West, and UConn and Tenn will be in the ME and MW.

Bark

Speculation has been all over the lot. Except no one seems to think West. East: 'cause we're in the east. Mideast: 'cause Duke's potential fan attendance for the east and Mideast is relatively close (1000 miles). Midwest: 'cause Bill is a male coach.

There's a zillion scenarios. Majority of UConn fans want the East. Raleigh is about 4-500 miles away. But we don't count.

I would bet Mideast, but I don't count either. I'm hoping that if we're in the Mideast, that the Sooners are in the West. Then we'd only face OU in the finals. They've always been good and now they appear to be peaking. Also, I wouldn't want Baylor in our bracket...Lambert, wow.

You have any thoughts?

Let's assume Duke, UConn, Tennessee, and OU are the 1 seeds. OU will very likely be out West. My best guess for the remainder are Duke-East, UConn-ME, and Tennessee-MW. I have thought for a week or two that Tennessee will be in Ames, and I still stick by that.

Yeah, TN in MW/Ames, I think the SEC tourney loss sealed that, but won't drop them to a #2. Also think your #1 seeds and where they're going makes lots of sense (which means we'll both be wrong).

Sorry I can't give you any eastern insight.

If the weakest 1 is seeded w/ the strongest 2, and the seeds go something like this (pure speculation except for Uconn)
1. Uconn
1. OU (w/ a win tomorrow)
1. Tenn
1. Duke
2. Stanford (or Vandy)
2. Vandy (or Stanford)
2. Baylor
2. Purdue (?)
Well, that won't work because that would be OU/Baylor and possibly Vandy/Tenn together.
An OU loss tomorrow would move them to the 3rd #1 (IMO). And Stanford is definately in the West and the talk is they won't ship Duke West (though I think they should. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif ).
To much to figure out.

A slight variation on it works out pretty darn well:

1. Uconn-ME
1. Tenn-MW
1. OU-W
1. Duke-E
2. Vandy-E
2. Stanford-W
2. Baylor-MW
2. Purdue-ME

Jennifer, I'd buy you're #2's too, but I think Stanford is about the third best #2 behind Baylor and Vandy. Plus keeping Stanford in the west doesn't seem to be most important priority. I'd bet not many Stanford fans would travel to Boise.

MRed, What's ISU gonna be, #3 or #4?

Jennifer

I don't think Stanford is all that either, but it's Tara's team, they have only 2 losses...so I can see them being seeded that way. NOt that I agree...

And I have to say--if Baylor is with Tennessee (or Vandy or Stanford) I really really like their chances.

Is the committee giving any extra thoughts to travel for regionals in light of 9/11?

Bark

Phooey on Tara (I hate coaches that whine), even though you're probably right.

If Baylor's in the east then .... OU beats Stanford to the final four, ISU beats TN to the final four, Baylor beats Duke to the final four, and UConn beats Purdue (I'm a homer). Hmmmm, Forgot about Vandy, hell the lose in the first round.

That would be real cool.

I personally think we played oursselves up to a 3, but the committee may think otherwise.

If Tennessee is in Ames, ISU matches up real well against LV.

You'd beat them in round three as a #4.

But good luck for a #3. I'll be rooting for you guys on Sunday. Dinner time, gotta go.

oh man........I really don't want to see OU go to the west. Those fixing-a-pot-of-coffee-at-midnite-games really get the best of me.

Then hope ISU played up to a #3 seed. If they do, then OU could be placed in the Midwest, as they wouldn't face each other until the regional final (as opposed to if ISU were a 4 seed).

Wait a minute, we're still in fantasyland until Sunday at 5:00ET.

The best way to get three Big XII teams in the final four is to beat TN, Stanford, and Duke. The best fantasy matchup scenario would be OU beating Stanford in Boise (SWOk, you could stay up for that), Baylor beating Duke in Raleigh (That would be a great game and put Baylor on the national radar), and ISU beating Tennessee (LV can't play against a zone and can you imagine the recruiting impact). Guess UConn then needs to take care of Vandy and/or Purdue.

With that you get the Big XII invitational plus UConn in San Anton ... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

If the "Big 12 Invitational" panned out and UCONN wonn the thing, I think I would consider stepping out in front of a bus! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Cyco, my fantasy, UConn's my team. Besides, I never said UConn would win the the whole thing in the posts above. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Bark, I have a mortal fear of UCONN coming to Ames!

Bark
03-09-2002, 11:21 AM
I wouldn't want that too. Cyclones are dangerous and you'd be at home. Plus if we get there and if ISU is a #4, then we'd have to face two quality teams in the third and fourth rounds. That's pretty tough.

Bark
03-09-2002, 11:22 AM
But you shouldn't have a mortal fear. UConn is really good but is still beatable.

The thing that bothers me the most about OU going west is Stanford being the #2 seed.........I would just as soon not see Stanford until the Final Four. I think there's still enough left-over emotion from last year, BUT that said....you have to play the best and beat the best to be a National Champion...

no doubt, Bark, I'll stay up whatever time the game is on.....I think the time change really affected them last year. Doesn't the weakest #1 seed typically go West? or is there no rhyme or reason to the placements?

Though I like your Big XII invitational.

I really like the Big XII invitational, cause at least two Big XII deserve it, and I don't like Stanford, Tennessee, and any other "old guard" team that thinks that they deserve a high seed since they've been sucessful in the past. So I hope for at least two Big XII and one more for good measure.

The weakest #1 doesn't get automatically put in the West. The weakest #1 usually gets put in the region that remains after the first three #1 are placed in regions that makes the most sense. But since the West has been relatively weak the last several years, it seems that way.

And remember that Stanford is very, very slow for a high seed. The match up is great for OU or BU or KSU or probably a half dozen other Big XII teams.

In any matchup between Stanford and a top-seven Big 12 team, I would expect the Big 12 team to have at least 50-50 odds, if not better.
