Colorado (8-2) jumped out to an early lead and weathered UCLA's (3-4) press near the half to defeat the Bruins 79-48. The win moves Colorado to 2-2 on the road.

As has been the case in many of the Buffs recent games the opposition packed in their defense intent on preventing CU's posts from scoring. This has really opened up the perimeter and today the Buff guards took full advantage. Senior Jenny Roulier was scorching from three point land hitting 5-7. Sophomore guard Kate Fagan, broken nose and all, came off the bench to go 2-2 while Mandy Nightingale was 2-6. Roulier was the Buffs leading scorer with 21.

Mark--Why is Bjorklund playing so little? I thought she was starting instead of Britt? I recorded the game today but haven't watched it yet. Just curious...

Bjorklund vs Hartshorn. As to why Hartshorn has been getting more playing time recently, you'd have to get into Ceal Barry's mind to get the whole answer. Bjorklund began the season as the starter partially because Hartshorn had been injured and missed about a week of practice. Of course Bjorklund got off to a hot start and it appeared she had proven herself. But there was a game - I can't remember which one - in which Hartshorn was given the bulk of playing time, due to her defensive presence. Ceal believes that Hartshorn is a better defensive player and in certain circumstances that means a lot.

Apparently Ceal has said that it really is a tossup and there is no scientific formula in making the decision. But you know that Ceal loves defense and thus as long as Britt is playing well at that end of the court she will get some serious playing time.

Hartshorn is a better rebounder, shot blocker and passer than Bjorklund. Bjorklund is a better scorer and just seems to me more intense on offense. When Britt gets the ball in the post she looks to pass first. When Tera gets it she goes to the basket.

Personally I prefer Bjorklund as her motor is running all the time. Hartshorn seems to play more in spurts. But as long as Britt plays solid defense and rebounds she will get playing time.

In the long run I believe that Bjorklund will go down as the Buffs best ever post player. She has amazingly quick, decisive moves to the basket. All she needs now is the chance to refine her all-around play.

Saw the game on tv and thought Colorado looked very impressive! Good win for Colorado. Always love to beat a Pac 10 team. A nice job for the Big 12, too.

In all honesty I didn't think that Colorado played well. I would have given them a C for the game at best. They committed 22 turnovers which is ridiculous given how bad UCLA is. CU relaxed in once they got the early 20 point lead and allowed UCLA to cut the score with their press. Had CU played with concentration at the end of the first half they would have won by at least 40 points.

At this point in the season it seems that Buffs are often just going through the motions. Perhaps they are still trying to find their personality, but whatever, they aren't playing like a team that is going to make it past the Sweet 16 in the NCAA's or seriously challenge for the Big 12 championship.

I thought they played really well, also. I really like watching Kate Fagan play.....and I was curious about Bjorkland, also...
thanks for clearing that up.
