View Full Version : Missouri at Kansas
This is a very solid and entertaining game, with both teams playing pretty solid defense. It's very even thus far, with the game tied at 38 about 2-1/2 minutes into the second half.
There are a whole lot of players really showing off their skills. I saw one almost impossible basket from LaToya Bond on a breakaway pass where she had no room at all to maneuver, but somehow at full speed was able to reverse the ball under the basket to roll it in from the opposite side.
The game remains airtight, with Missouri just taking a 55-53 lead, KU with the ball with five minutes left. but N'Garsanet steals the ball, fumbles it, recovers and scores to give Missouri a precious 4 point lead.
N'Garsanet just got a foul on the other end, and Kaylee Brown followed with a layup. A Mizzou's end, they MISS three layups, and at the other end Hallman misses a stone-cold gimme layup underneath, and now N'Garsanet is on the deck after taking an elbow to the ribs.
The game has turned into an absolute war. Not a big surprise, considering the rivalry these two teams have.

This game is crazy-go-nuts! Solid offense, defense, hustle from every player on the court. Both coaches should be proud of the way their teams are playing.

I'm glad it is a good game, but I have to say - we need Kansas to help us out!
Tied at 57, 3:10 remaining.
Riddle dribbles in the jumper from eight feet for a 2 point Missuri lead. Taylor McIntosh throws away the pass to Kemp and Missouri has another chance to get ahead by four.
Riddle drives and scores over McIntosh, 61-57 Missouri into the TO.
2:13 remaining.

Great game....come on Mizzou!
Erica Hallman, who has been deadly today with 19 points, hits a 16 foot jumper, and Kansas steals the ball, a brilliant pass for the layup by Kaylee Brown from Sharita Smith.
KU AGAIN gets the ball back, and McIntosh challenges Riddle and loses, missing a banker from six.
Another TO, tied at 61 with 1:15 remaining. This game is absolutely as close as it could be.
Baseline drive by Bond turns into a charge, KU ball after Hallman takes the charge.
KU with the ball after the TO with 49.5 seconds left.
Sharita Smith finds a lane to the basket, but her layup attempt rolls off, and she's fouled.
Misses her first, hits her second, one point KU lead 62-61. Four seconds difference between the shot and game clocks. Missouri will have 30 seconds after the TO.

Hitting the free throws in the stretch! These teams are fighting for it!
34.8 remains.
Missouri inbounds under KU basket. Now working a play and a STEAL on the pass into the lane. Missouri fouls Erica Hallman, now KU ball. (Missouri isn't into the bonus yet.)
And another TO with 19.4 left. KU has to burn clock, as Missouri will try to foul into the bonus as quickly as possible.
KU looking strong now as a WNIT team.
Missouri just got their 6th foul, next is the bonus. LaToya Bond has fouled out. Next inbounds, foul by Savant, KU to the line.
KU must hit these FT's. Kaylee Brown hits the first, 63-61. And the second, 64-61.
KU fouls Carlynn Savant on the missed three, she goes to the line with a chance to tie with three made FT's. She's an 87% shooter.

Savant gets fouled trying to shoot a three and is going to the line to try and hit three freethrows to tie it up. Hits the first one. Hits the second.
No team has any TOs
hits the third one.
Kansas gets it into Erika Hallman and she hits the front of the rim. WE'RE GOING INTO OT!!!

Savant's the wrong person to foul - glad it's going to OT!

Keep it comming. I appreciate the info.
FANTASTIC game, both teams playing like the national championship is on the line. What a treat to lead into Duke at North Carolina with this gem.
(Oops, looks like we join that one in progress now...)

KU gets the first bucket in OT as Mizzou charges to turn the ball over.
Savant misses, Kemp rebounds.
68-64 KU!
Hallman sees the waters part, goes all the way for the layup and KU lead.
Missouri charges on a made shot, no shot. KU scores again for a 4 point lead.
Four minutes remaining, Missouri looking inside, then kicks to a wide-open Savant who misses the three, KU chases the ball down leading by 4.
Kemp gets a layup on the pass inside, 70-64 KU. Missouri is getting in a little trouble, this ties the biggest lead by either team in the game. A reach-in and Missouri in-bounds. N'Garsanet's in-bounds pass hits the backboard, turnover to KU.
KU has a chance to extend to 8 or 9. ANOTHER timeout, seems like the 10th in the last five minutes.

KU on a 6-0 run in OT. TO Mizzou.
A lot of comments have been made about the Tiger's attendance at home games and how it should be better with Mizzou being in 2nd in the BIG 12. Well, from what I see on TV, they have some great fan representation today at KU. I even heard the "LET'S GO TIGERS" chant.

Looks like Missouri had about 40 minutes of great basketball in them today. Too bad this game lasted for 45 minutes.

Having Bonds foul out is HUGE for Kansas for this Overtime and will be the storyline IMO. Mizzou has no offense it looks like. They're just dribbling around without any offense.
8-0 run now by KU in OT!
Mizzou hits a three (think it was Drew).
64-72 KU
Foul on Mizzou, sending KU's Macintosh to the line. Misses front end of 1 - 1, and KU fouls on the rebound. Ngarsune (sp?) now shooting freethrows with the clock stopped.
KU's first two in-bounds attempts have been deflected out of bounds, and the third!
KU now on the court with the ball. Bad pass to Kemp is stolen. Missouri setting up, running the weave. Savant puts up a bad shot, ball comes off of her shoe out of bounds.
KU setting up still ahead by 6. Quick baseline drive by Brown, ball bounces twice on the rim and out, still KU ball.
Time is now down ot 1:40. Hallman hits the popup six footer on the drive. Missouri air balls a three, KU leading by 8 has the ball again.
Foul by Missouri, but with an 8 point lead for KU, I think they are likely done. McIntosh, a 55% FT shooter, misses the first shot, and N'Garsanet (a 45% FT shooter) is fouled and goes to the line at the other end.
1-1. N'Garsanet hits the first! AND THE SECOND!!!!
Missouri is 18-18 from the line. Kaylee Brown fouled off the in-bounds, to the line for KU, who leads 72-66.
Brown misses the first. AND THE SECOND!!! Missouri downcourt to Savant, and she airs the three! Back to KU with 1:04 remaining and another chance at the line after the foul.

Looks like it's going to be a f-throw fest with 1:04 left. KU at the line hits both 76-68 under :50 secs left now.
Mizzou's Brooks going to the line now.
They just said UNC has the early lead on Duke in Chapell Hill.

Kemp fouled and going to the line — hits first, makes second 78-70 KU, 38.8 secs left.
Now the Rooooooocckkkkk, Chhaaaaaalllllkkkkkk, Jaaayhaaaaawwwkkkkk, K U chants starts.
10 pt lead KU. Mizzou only 6 pts in the OT compared to 16 pts. for KU, almost all pts. at the FT line.
Hallman hits both free throws, probably ices the game at 74-66, Missouri scores quickly. Now with 58.2 left, 74-68.
It's amazing how Missouri is stretching the game.
Another two free throws for KU, and now Brooks of Missouri goes to the line. But time is about gone, only 47.7 left.
Tiffany Brooks hits the first, hits the second.
Missouri is an amazing 20-20 from the line. Kemp is fouled on the in-bounds, and marches to the stripe at the other end.
76-70 KU with 47 seconds left. Kemp hits the first, and the second. KU back up by 8. Missouri misses two threes, and KU gets the ball and a foul.
It's nearing time to call off the dogs for Missouri, because it's pretty hopeless now.. KU hits both FT's, now 80-70.
Another 3 miss for Missouri, Savant fouled and goes to the line.
KU has scored 16 points in the OT. Savant hits the first and misses the second, Missouri slumps to 21-22 from the line. :) And Hallman fouls out after Savant is fouled again.
81-71 KU, Savant at the line. Misses the first, and the second.
After Missouri was 21-21, Savant has missed 3 in a row.
Kemp at the line, makes the first, misses the second. Game is over.
KU wins 81-71. On to Chapel Hill now.

KU not playing smart, fouls Savant again trying to shoot. Not very smart with the lead.
Savant misses all three FTs.
Mizzou fouls Kemp.
BTW Erika fouled out for KU.
Ball Game!!! KU wins baby 81 -71!!!
I picked an upset!!! I never get that kind of luck. :)
Way to go :KU:

Nice move by FSN to note Coach Sharp's great contribution and legacy to the wcbb game. Both Coach Hendrickson and Stein had very nice comments to share about Coach Sharp during halftime. And both Kevin and Brenda gave high, high praise to Coach Sharp as a person. :)

Greatjob by KU. Of course this game went the way it did in the ot because the game never should have gone. On the three point attempt by Savant she threw herself into the KU player. When a offensive player does that it should always be either no call or an offensive foul.
