View Full Version : NIT Announced
OSU must have declined, because they are not in the NIT and there is no way they weren't invited.
Missouri is the only conference team in. They host Alabama on Wednesday.
http://www.womensnit.comHere's the list</a>
Other teams of note in the NIT:
Oregon
Oregon St.
SMS
Depaul
Michigan St.
Illinois
Michigan
Ball St.
Houston

I forgot about that little perk of having an NIT team hosting. That's a few more thousand fans toward the total. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I think Oregon,Oregon State, or Houston have a shot at winning it. But don't count out Missouri. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif
More specifics:
If they beat Alabama, Missouri will play the winner of E.KY and SMS. The winner of that plays Depaul/Mich.St./W.KY/Illinois.

A friend of mine from OSU said that the team decided that they did not want to play in the NIT since Halterman's contract is up.

If SMS and MU both win on Wednesday, Mizzou will come down to Springfield for a Saturday matchup. Time for a little payback... http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Rice, UNT, and UH all in the NIT. All were bubble teams that didn't do enough in their conference tourneys. I actually like Rice to beat crosstown rival UH in that 1st round game.
I can understand OSU making those negative comments about the WNIT, but I still wish they would have accepted. It's not like they have been making the NCAA's every year, and I don't think they were deserving of NCAA's this year either. But postseason is postseason. Take the WNIT if you can get it. Congrats to Mizzou!

that's kind of what I anticipate, SMS......is the attendance at SMS still busting the doors open?
I agree, I think it was a poor decision on OSU's part....

Are you insinuating that the NIT will pick SMS over Missouri to host that game? Missouri averages 2700 fans per game! How many does SMS average? 7200? Oh. Never mind....

Without a doubt, the teams with the largest fan attendance in the WNIT are rewarded. The WNIT decides the home site for each round based on the winners and their attendance (both in the tournament and during the season).

Just making a little joke. SMS will probably host every NIT game it plays; no NIT team has an attendance as large as SMS.

Well attendance is down from last year (8400), but that was to be expected, and we've been getting 7000-7500 a game ususally for 10 years now....so thats what we're accustomed to and it really doesn't seem like that much of a difference. We're still loud and proud no matter what. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Hooray! A little more basketball, just what I needed. One more game at home for Natalie Bright...I just hope a few folks show up.
I am incredulous at OSU not accepting the bid. That's rotten for the seniors, for the fans...one last little snub before he leaves town?
Georgetown did the same thing in the men's NIT...turn down a lot of opportunity for the school out of a temper tantrum. Dumb.
I was really surprised and disappointed that OSU turned down the bid, but I was surprised and pleased that Missouri received one. The Big 12 certainly needs a representative in the WNIT, and with their Sweet Sixteen experience, the Missouri team should do well.

As far as I know, Halterman has always been well liked by his players.
I'm sure they weren't appreciative of their coach getting the ax before the season is over. If I were a player, I could see being miffed enought to not play in the NIT: If the school doesn't think he's good enough to continue coaching there, why should they extend their season (and get some more $$ for the school)?
It's a tough call either way...but I can empathize with the players if this was their choice.

I agree Jennifer. I think its just fine that teams like Georgetown say no to the NIT. What's the point? You've been playing towards an NCAA birth all along. You won't be going into the NIT games in the right frame of mind because the team will be mad or upset. NIT is great for giving teams new to the postseason games some experience and additional credit. But noone really remembers who did well in the NIT. People barely remember who even won the NIT.
Not to mention the NIT and associated travel can be a real money drain on teams. Just not worth it for some teams to play in the NIT.
