Sophia Young needs just two rebounds and 84 points to become the Big 12's all-time rebounder and scorer. The senior currently has hauled down 1,222 rebounds, trailing Texas' Stacy Stephens by just one. She moved into No. 2 on the career scoring list, passing Kansas State's Nicole Ohlde (2001-04), with 2,250 points. Young needs 84 points to pass Kansas State's Kendra Wecker's (2002-05) all-time total of 2,333. Young recently broke the league's career double-double mark of 54 and now sits atop the chart with 56. In addition, Young ranks No. 4 all-time in steals (294) and No. 9 in blocked shots (127).
She is on track to join an elite group who have tallied 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 300 assists and 300 steals in their NCAA Division I career, as she currently has 2,250 points, 1,222 rebounds, 285 assists and 294 steals.

Sophia Young is one of the elite players in women's college basketball. It has been my pleasure and my nightmare to see her play in a Baylor Bear uniform. I'm really really looking forward to her taking that great game to the WNBA, because then it will be pure pleasure to watch and cheer for her success.
Congratulations to her on all of her records.
Now, graduate already. :)

More importantly, I have always had the impression that Sophia is a class act.

I agree:
She is a class act

Yep...she's a class act on and off the court. I sat by the Baylor players at the 2004 tourney and she had a never ending line of young un's coming up to get her autograph. She was kind and funny and gracious and they all came away with stars in their eyes.

I got her to autograph my cap when she was a freshman. I knew she would be a great one. A very special young lady!

I wish Sophia would get the national attention she deserves. Fortunately, Stacey Dales-Schuman always makes sure Baylor's star gets mentioned when there is talk of POY awards on ESPN. :)

How special it would be if Sophia nabs the rebounds mark tomorrow during Senior Night.
And speaking of special, just mentioning Stacy Stephens' name brings up many wonderful memories! I still recall her great quote when she set the rebounds record. Paraphrasing, "I would like to thank all my teammates for missing those shots to help me get this record." ;)
Hope that Stacy is doing well. And I can't help but wish we could see her go up against CP3! Now, that would be a battle.

Going out on top -- Young could be the conference's best ever all-around player
... Every time we watch Baylor together, [Kendra Wecker's] like, ‘Sophia is going to get my record tonight,’” junior Claire Coggins said. “I tell her Sophia’s a great player — nothing against Sophia Young, she’s an awesome player, but Sophia has more games in the post season. Kendra missed five games of her senior season, and I tell Kendra, ‘Just chill out, you’re a special player.’”
... “I’ll be happy and sad to see Sophia go,” Coach Deb Patterson said. “Happy because we don’t have to line up against her and sad because she is one of my favorite players to watch compete in the women’s game.
http://kstatecollegian.com/article.php?a=9069The K-State student paper ran a very nice story about Sophia before the Baylor/Colorado game. :)

Last night, I waited around after the game and listened to the post game interviews for about 15 minutes. Then went into the Tipoff Club post-game party for the players and hung around about 25-30 minutes. 4-5 players had showered and dressed and were making the rounds at the party by the time I left, and the first thing I saw back in the arena was Sophia, still in her uniform, signing autographs for kids, more than 45 minutes after the game had ended. I don't know if she ever got to go to the party or not. She's pretty special indeed.

The Waco Trib has a photo gallery of the Lady Bears' Senior Salute--and a wacky picture of Kim doing/saying who-knows-what to Sophia. Caption ideas? (I'd post the photo here, but don't know how to.) http://www.wacotrib.com/sports/content/sports/index.html

It wasn't really a 'wacky' moment at all. It was a very nice gesture to honor Sophia as she had just set the new Big 12 rebounding record. At that time the noise level inside the Ferrell Center was pretty loud. I imagine that the personal comments shared were very special.

That was a wonderful celebration of Sophia's achievement. I teared up watching on Baylor All-Access video.
But that one Trib picture made me laugh. The caption--"Coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson hugs Baylor senior Sophia Young after breaking the Big 12's career rebounding record"--makes it sound like Kim broke the record, not Sophia; and the photo on the Sports Page (not in the gallery) makes it look like Kim is hanging onto Sophia's neck for dear life. ;)

After the Kansas State game, Sophia now sits at 2,303 points, 1,237 rebounds, 290 assits, and 300 steals. She only needs 10 assists to join the 2000-1000-300-300 club. Sohpia is also 31 points from breaking Kendra Wecker's scoring record today.
P.S. This was math done in my head, so if I'm wrong, please let me know ;)

Sophia also broke Kendra Wecker's scoring record today.
I believe this is a mistake. I think Kendra's record is 2333 pts. If after her 33 today Sophia stands at 2303, then she still needs 30 points to tie Kendra. Given that she will play in at least three more games, I think it's a safe bet that the record is coming down.

I originally had that she needed 31 points, but misread a quote from the post-game and changed it. The original content is back.
