Simmons Leaving Tech

The TTU TTU LR (http://texastech.fansonly.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec rel/031102aaa.html) site reports that Kari Jo Simmons is leaving Tech for personal and medical reasons.

She states: I would like to thank coach Sharp, her staff and the athletic department for providing me the opportunity to play Division I basketball at such an elite program," said Simmons. "I would also like to thank the fans for their unconditional love and support that they provide here at Texas Tech.

My life is heading in a different direction and I feel that it is my utmost responsibility to follow along this new path."

I am so sad that KJ is leaving. She added so much to the program with her energy, intelligence and pin point passes. I wish her the very best, and hope that she achieves her goals. I can't help but wish that she had waited to make this decision after the NCAA tournament. We are going to need her down the stretch.

No matter what her reasons, the timing is very unfortunate. Seems like actions like that can cause a distraction...but I'm sure Coach Sharp will have the girls ready.
