View Full Version : I guess they should just mail them the trophy...

Since it is almost univerally conceded that no one has a chance to take this year's championship from the Huskies.

Apparently, this feeling is especially strong in Hartford. I somehow don't think that the Sooners, and some other teams, necessarily feel that way.

Aw come on YCN, that article doesn't say that the NCAA championship should be mailed in, that no one else has a chance, or that Hartford/Husky fans think the tourney is a lock for UConn.

The only quotes were from the Boston College coach and a player referencing how good they thought UConn was after the game. There were no statements from any UConn player, coach or fans.

We all know that the Huskies are good, but Husky fans and I am sure that the team knows that the champions have to win their next six games.

"When it is over, after the NCAA trophy is held aloft and the parade wanders through the jammed streets of Connecticut's capital city, we will not remember who they played."

Maybe we just aren't reading the same article.

I'm sure it's a history thing, YCN.......they did talk about "could anyone beat UConn?" on sportscenter this morning and also talked about Oklahoma and Duke........

see a missing link.........no SEC team was mentioned in their little spot.

You've got a point there YCN. I was looking for quotes from UConn coaches or players or fans and didn't see them. My bad.

I guess you've assumed that this writer "apparently" speaks for all Husky fans and the team and the coaches. And that we all expect the NCAA to mail the trophy into Storrs.

Hmmm, can this be true?

Bottom line...UConn is good and better than most, but they can be beat. You and I know it, most UConn fans know it and most importantly most teams know it. Too bad for the clueless.

So lets talk about basketball and try not to start bashing

I don't think Geno will have his team thinking that they can "mail it in", so I expect them to be extremely difficult to beat. They've also shown an impressive killer instinct this season.

We all have arrogant fans, maybe this year UConn has more, but here's a thread on the Boneyard that I think reflects UConn's fan perspective more acurately than Jacob's article.

The link ("Oklahoma is the second best team")is here: http://qs236.pair.com/temery/cgi-perl/uconn/wbb.pl/read/44912

Note: that the originator is a UConn fan that is pretty respected throughout the board. There are two negative threads. Both are from Stanford fans: Sakibomb who says that Tennessee is better than OU and Naismith who says Caulfield is a hatchet.
All other messages in this thread support OU and Olde Coaches' position and if you read through the thread, you will see that no Husky fan expects "it" in the mail.

No offense to Bark or anyone else that's a Husky fan, but I hope someone, naturally i'd prefer it to be a Big 12 team but i'm really not picky, knocks off UConn. I just don't think they could do what they've done in a real conference, that's all. But I like everyone else will just have to wait and see. PS, below is a list of who UConn has played that's ranked either now or at one time or another. So their schedule isn't really anything to be sneezing at, considering Vandy, OU, and Tennessee have all been No. 3 at one point.

NOV 11 Florida International
NOV 15 North Carolina
NOV 18 Vanderbilt
DEC 9 Louisiana Tech
DEC 22 Oklahoma
DEC 29 @ Old Dominion
JAN 5 @ Tennessee
JAN 21 Notre Dame
JAN 26 Boston College
MAR 5 vs Boston College

Oops, maybe I've gone too far. I don't get offended by anything dealing with sports (entertainment!). Say whatever you want about UConn, this is your board.

Plus, sometimes I wonder if UConn's sucess this year is good for the sport. If we get beat, for sure it will be good for WCBB, but I'll be sad. I figure the team that can beat UConn will be a pretty displined defensive team, with good shooters, offensive patience, and who's mentalty tough. If it's a Big XII team or Vandy, I don't think I'll be too sad. If it's Oklahoma or Baylor, I won't be sad at all. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

If we don't get beat this year, I don't know if it will be still good for WCBB, but it'll be fun in CT for a while. And besides, next year UConn will be completely different team.

that's the main reason that I would prefer that OU not go West...
those Stanford fans can't put it to rest.

I'm staying out of it this year......seems as though the girl has really bad knees, IMO, and I don't think Laneisha should get tagged with ALL King's problems.

YCN, Auriemma's basic philosophy is:

If you're on the floor they have to play the game the way it's suppose to be played, regardless of the opponent or score. That's why in every game, all of his players play as hard as they can or they get subbed out. Is this a "killer" instinct? Probably, it contributes alot to that, but more so, it leads to a relentlessness both defensively and offensively that wears out lesser equiped teams.

That's why disciplined, mental tough, talented teams have a shot at UConn. Stem the waves of pressure, stick to what will work, and a team will stay in the game with a chance to win in the end.

The first Va Tech game, where UConn won by "only 9 points" was the first time this year that UConn deviated (or lost) this game mentality. Huskies still won, but it wasn't easy.

Oh, one more thing before the show...Way to go Jen (handle on the Boneyard) lay it on Naismith.

But word of caution, if Prof gets involved, drop it. Prof (also a Stanford fan) never lets go and is not too bright. Unless, of course you love circular discussions that lasts for several hours.

Thanks Bark, I'll probably just leave it alone. I said my 2 cents and it's not worth harping on (which is what Stanford fans have been doing for over a year now).
I couldn't help but take the bait...

swok is taking "no bait" this year.......it was over last year at the NCAA's. All they managed to do was fire up OU fans who didn't know a thing about the incident.

Jennifer, I don't blame you for responding. I'm glad that the OU's perspective was on the boneyard. Not many OU fans get on, but plenty of Stanford posts.

The caution was just about that poster Prof., whining about "injustices" toward Stanford.
