Does anybody here know what's going on with women's basketball at Alabama? (link courtesy of Women's Basketball Online)

first-year coach Stephany Smith

Maybe Smith forgot to clean house BEFORE the season started.

I have no idea...but this is Smith's first year. Both player's are transfers?
And with Nettles numbers, it must have been something serious that Smith did not like.

Nettles, a 2003 transfer from Chicago State, averaged 11.0 points and 3.8 rebounds in 27.6 minutes per game this season. Johnson, who transferred in 2003 from UCLA, averaged 1.4 points and 1.7 rebounds in 8.6 minutes per game.

Actually sounds like there are some answers in the article you posted:

Nettles said any problem she had with her coach was with her triangle offense because, Nettles said, it contains no adjustments against defensive tactics. Alabama has a league-worst, minus-8.4 turnover margin. Smith has taken "no personal responsibility for the team" all season, Nettles said.

"I would point the finger, too, if I were 8-14," Nettles said.

Being a first-year coach in the SEC isn't my idea of fun, but this is ridiculous. Alabama now has just nine players.

I do wish coaches who dismiss players during the season were required to say why. And not some blah-blah coach-speak.In a media teleconference earlier Tuesday, Smith declined to say why the players were dismissed.

"All I'd really like to say is that I wish both Krystle and Marverly the best," Smith said.Sure you do, Stephany, sure you do.

I sure don't have a dog in this fight, but any player who makes a comment like this to the press:

Nettles said any problem she had with her coach was with her triangle offense because, Nettles said, it contains no adjustments against defensive tactics. Alabama has a league-worst, minus-8.4 turnover margin. Smith has taken "no personal responsibility for the team" all season, Nettles said.

is probably being disengenuous when she says she doesn't know why she was dismissed. If she had a problem, she should take it up with the coach. If she doesn't like the answers she gets, she's free to leave. But giving that type of quote to the press is WAY out of line in my estimation.

Well ... can't speak for her work @ 'Bama, but her blue Lady Raiders were a sight in Dallas last March.

Dang, has it been a YEAR?
