Kansas State 71, Nebraska 64
Kelsey Griffin had 28, but a 15-0 run at the end of the 1st half and the beginning of the 2nd half by Kansas State, (combined with a lack of offensive and defensive focus by Nebraska) hurt the Huskers tonight.
Nebraska is now 11-8, 4-5 in conference play and head into battle next against Baylor at Waco..followed by a home stand next week at TAMU...
OVERALL OUTLOOK: Nebraska's NCAA tournament hopes took a hard hit tonight...and they could possibly be eliminated from NCAA consideration by this time next week.

Thank goodness for you guys. I set my frickin' DVR to record this game and watched it later. The recording stopped with 27 seconds left to play. ARRRGGGGGGHHHH!!!! I usually record the program immediately following the game but I must have forgotten tonight.
Good to see KSU pulled it out. The first half was about as bad as I have SEEN them play but I haven't seen every game...luckily.
I thought this game was very poorly officiated. Not leaning towards one team or the other...just inconsistent and sporadic.
Does anyone know if Twiggy was benched for poor play or was there an injury???

Twiggy had a wrap around her left hand. I'm hoping she is back for Colorado Wed. but it's probably day to day at this point.
KSU was very gutty tonight. That frosh for Nebraska was a handful. Deb finally got Zanotti on her and stopped the bleeding........and then we literally stopped the bleeding of Shalee Lehning as she was bopped in the face pretty hard and her face was dripping in blood. But she was back 2 minutes later and finished with 11 assists. She is a tough cookie.
McFarland and Dietz were the difference tonight and Coggins hit some key shot as did Hamlin.
The earlier poster was right. There was one particular ref tonight that was so bad, I really didn't know how to yell out and complain, because I was too busy shaking my head in bewilderment. For those at the game..........I'm sure you know what ref I am talking about. I hope the Big 12 takes a good look at this game, because if I'm reviewed at my job......he needs reviewed at his............and given the boot.
A nice win for KSU-but Colorado looms ahead and they are playing well. I think we need at least 19 and probably 20 wins to get into the Big Dance. Just got to take one game at a time.

Those refs ----!
Peter Contreras better not quit his day job! I am watching the tape right now and it is sooo ugly!
Glad to see the Wildcats pull this one out. Tough tough win!
I was told Twiggy had a wrist injury in practice. I think she was only there for desparate emergency use. I'm glad it did not come to that.
Congrats to Nebraska for taking advatage of what the KSU defense allowed. Kelsey Griffin is a very fine player and of course we already knew about Hardy. There was a nice group of Husker fans at the game and they were loud.
If you had told me before I made my pick-em selections that Twiggy would not be able to play, Gipson would pick up 4 fouls in a little over 6 minutes and Griffin would score almost 30 points I would have switched my pick to Nebraska. Dietz, McFarland and Zannotti came through for Kansas State big time. I also have to give some props to Claire Coggins who delivered another in a string of very good games. If she does not watch out I may start to think of her as "ole reliable". Good defense, decent shot selection, no silly fouls, no taking plays off and consistent scoring. Who is this person in Claire's jersey? Seriously Ms. Coggins, you have earned my praise.
Good job Wildcats and good job coaches.
GO Wildcats!!!

I'v done that, too - missed the winning shot against Baylor!
If your DVR is like mine, when you set to record the program, you can change the duration. They always have the games set for 2 hours, and I add 15 minutes (check out your menu). That way you get it all as one program.

The refs were poor both ways. Example the third foul on Griffin. It was as much of a joke as the foul called on Lehning when she was on the floor and a Husker player fell on her. Then again Lehning pulled an NU player's hand down and caused a Husker turnover pretty much in front of a ref and was not called for a foul. Like you said it just was not well called. I'm glad that for the most part both teams played on and made the best of it they could.
Btw, I have to agree with Bill Land and Brenda VanLengen on the clock. I don't think I have ever seen a clock run ADDING seconds to the game with the ball in play before. That was real special too. I hope that gets worked out before it happens again. Its hard to be a conspiracy theorist about it when it happens to you on your own floor.

is lacking in quality refs. The men's game doesn't ever deal with lousy refs week in and week out like the women do.
Mr. Weiberg should be put on notice. Upgrade the Women's game or get out.

"The men's game doesn't ever deal with lousy refs week in and week out like the women do.
Bad officiating is one thing, but I'd rather look at a 15-0 run where Nebraska lost focus and didn't take advantage of the opportunites presented, and ended up losing yet another road game that had a chance to win.
Bad offciating didn't lead to Kiera Hardy's 4-for-20 effort and lack of defensive intensity for a good deal of the game.
Bad officiating didn't cause yet another poor performance against upgraded competition by Jessica Gerhart.
Bad officiating has nothing to do with Connie Yori's strategic deficiencies.
Bad officiating has nothing to do with Nebraska having the two worse point guards in the league.
Bad officiating has nothing to do with four starting veteran players who don't take leadership of the team.
The officiating is lousy, but good teams play through it.
Chipper's HorseTrailer Player of the Game: Kelsey Griffin.
28 points. 12 rebounds, and she fought for every point. Griffin is a true freshman and and she's the only Nebraska starter who hasn't taken a game off this year.
We played an awesome first half..for 18 minutes, then lost focus. We went from up 7 to tied to down 8, and never threatened again.
Someday, Nebraska well be able to go on the road, play complete games and win. But this team hasn't proven that in the Connie Yori era, and certainly didn't last night.
OVERALL OUTLOOK: 12-8, 4-5 in league play. An NCAA tournament bid isn't look good right now. Every game is one lost in the regular season is one more game we have to win in Dallas, and really we are at the point where Nebraska may have to win the Big 12 tournament to get a ticket into The Dance. And I think we'll see lasting peace in the middle east before a team like Nebraska can win those 4 pressure-filled games.
I think I will just have to be satisfied with a third straight WNIT bid.

I guess Chipper saw a different game than I witnessed. This is a very good Nebraska team playing in enemy territory in the Big 12 conference. I can assure you that our trip to Lincoln is not going to be something we look forward to. I would agree that the point guard position for Nebraska may be a bit weak but as for heart your team played as consistent from beginning to end as any team the Cats have played this year. As for the Huskers not threatening after being down by 8? This game was in jeoprady until the last 1:00.
Great adjustments made by the Cats during the first 10 minutes of the game to keep it close as Nebraska was hitting everything they put up, and not allowing any rebounds on either end of the floor. Once again I'm so impressed by a group of freshman that don't panic and hold it together when the going gets tough.
When you look at the conference standings, with two more baskets in two games (Texas and Missouri) K-States' upstart freshman would be in soul possession of second place at 8 and 2! That is pretty impressive.
Again tonight it was someone you didn't expect that stepped up and provided the scoring. Kimberly Dietz is shooting with a great deal of confidence and is playing so well over the last couple of games that even with a healthy Twiggy she is going to have to be given some minutes. Always a threat from 3-point land she is 10-12 over the last 3 games, and playing a complete game on both ends of the court.

I got to watch the game this morning. I must say, you are too kind. We didn't threaten in the game. We didn't take a lead in the game in the second half and made too many mistake to sustain a challenge.
On the KSU side. Dietz impressed me a great deal. She attacked our perimeter and really made plays. Inside, I think Hamlin and our Kelsey Griffin will have some grand engagments in the years ahead.
I was surprised when listening to the game that Deb went man on Griffin, but watching the game I could see the method of her madness. Getting after the weak links along the Husker perimeter. Nebraska nullified this with good execution in the first half. We gained possession and cashed them in..
Then came the last 2 or so minutes of the first half...when Nebraska execution faltered...and Kimberly Dietz quarterbacked the team from 7 down with smart plays and good plays.
Early second half, you saw those young players for KSU come out on fire..and Nebraska played sleepy early on. Instead of firing out with purpose, the Huskers seemed tepid and tentative. Kiera Hardy was pressing. Trying to get things going and she missed 2 shots and had a turnover which directly lead to the Wildcats getting the lead and keeping us at arms length.
You are not helping yourself when your All Big 12 guard goes 4-for-20.

Congratulation's KSURon and to the all the other Wildcat fans on K-State's victory.
This has got to be one of the most disappointed drive backs to Lincoln I've had in the last 10 years. :(

The Huskers got to find a way to score when put into situations like that to stop the bleeding. What's baffling is practically every shot they took was a fairly good shot too.
Future engagments of these two teams won't be for the faint of heart.
Kelsey Griffin was just magnificent! TK did a good job when she was in there also. Hardy played pretty good the first half and then started pressing when her shot wouldn't fall the second half. At this point I'm ready to say put Kiera at the point and TK at the shooting guard position. Lack of production at the point is killing the Huskers.
Now let's refocus and get back on the winning track there's a winning streak the Huskers have to extend next Wednesday night! ;)

are two separate issues to be dealt with. It just bugs me that the "higher ups" at Big 12 HQ's don't respect the Women's game enough to upgrade the quality of the Referees, who call the game.
The men's game gets the best. Besides a few really good refs in our game, for the most part we get what's left over.

Shalee Lehning is impressive for a freshman.
Now, Shalee, about that free-throw technique........

LOL. I am looking forward to Coach Kamie and Coach P. continuing to work on her shooting form overall. Other than that I like her game fine (with the possible exception that she is a little excessively shy on the Bball court). ;)

I agree, Jimi. Claire has been an entirely different player since the benching. It is sad if that is what it took, but oh well. Dietz, earlier in the season, would make some great plays and then just have really stupid turnovers at important times. But she has put it together recently. I like how she takes the ball to the basket. In fact all of our guards (Lehning, Coggins, Dietz, Twiggy) have done an excellent job of going strong to the basket, but maintaining composure and keeping all of their options open (i.e. shoot, pass back out, dump off, dribble back out) That is what has been the centerpice of most of our offensive success this year. I would have liked to see a couple of players named Wecker and Mahoney be a little more aggressive with this style of play at times in the past.
