The home town basketball team made it to the state tournament so we went to watch them. My question is do any states play with a shot clock in high school? I know a couple of years ago it was talked about in Iowa. Alot of people were against it because bad teams would really get beat by alot more. But it is so hard watching defenses playing good defense and not getting reward for it unless they get a steal.

In Washington, girls have a 30 second clock, no clock in boys' basketball

I think that's been talked about off and on.
I know when I was in HS, I wished we had one. There's nothing worse than stalling the entire 4th quarter when you have a 2 or 3 point lead. I HATED that. I think the fans did do.

No shot clock in Texas hs girls bball & this fan sure hates it. I get so bored and frustrated when a team is stalling for 3 to 4 minutes or longer. I root for the stalling team to turn the ball over.

That is the feeling that I was having watching the game the other day. They weren't stalking just looking for a good shot but the game is so slow.

Want to point out that there is a major difference between stalling and looking for the open shot when we discuss this clock in high school situations. I hate a stall as much as the next fan. It's boring, and seems almost unsportspersonlike at times. As Carolann points out there is no shot clock in Texas, but the girls have to dribble towards basket when they are guarded closely. Yeah, it's slower, but it also reduces the stress on young bodies that are still maturing. Let's be careful that we consider the development of players and not rush them along too much.

How many classes do the different states have in girls basketball? Iowa has 4.

Oklahoma has 7--B, A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A. I think I read last year that there was talk about adding another class or two, which i think is ridiculous The problem is that 5A and 6A only have 32 teams each, where as some of hte smaller classes have as many as 200+ members.
Another class would just water it down even more!

Texas has 5 (1A through 5A), except the 1A is divided into Division I and Division II based on enrollment of the school. The Division I and Division II schools play within their division, then the champions of each division play one another for the "Texas Cup" on the last day of the state tournament.
