Before the looong drive back to Austin (no thanks to KSU and their fabulous freshmen), we strolled over to Topeka to watch Texas recuit Tamra Cobbins. Thought Texas fans, and perhaps others, might like an update. The game was about an hour away from KC. Schlagle looks to be an inner-city KC school (the "Lady Stallions", yep, lady stallions; well, I guess the mares don't sound very ferocious), and their opponent was a private Christian school (the Crusaders). Someone said that Texas is one of the few states that has separate state playoffs for private vs. public schools. Both she and her backcourt partner are only 5"5" but accounted for 46 of their teams 63 points. Cobbins apparently did not have one of her better games, missing several layups after stealing the ball as well as several perimeter shots early in the game. But she came through in the 4th quarter with several steals, layups, and drives through the paint for a total of 24 points (38%). There were two rows of Texas fans there, sitting by themselves across from the Schlagle fans, and we wondered if Tamra was a little nervous at first with the attention. She flashed the horns up sign toward us when she was introduced and throughout the game following a good play. We also held "horns up" during free throws, and the school fans across the court followed suit. Here's some links (I hope) to articles in the Kansas City Star:
