This should be a great game.
Looking forward to the updates, and annoyed that I can't watch it.
Slow start
11-4 KSU leads. 13:30 left in the first

21-11 KSU. Texas probably shooting below 20%
Texas is having a hard time even getting off a shot when they get it inside, and K-State is daring them to shoot threes.
25-11 KSU.

All of Texas's big comebacks this year came when they were down by 14. That's were they are now. If KSU goes up any further, its probably over. Just can't buy a shot

KSU making Texas look BAD. UT may not get that sub regional after all. Koehn just incredible with her 3's.
I think Texas is a lock to host. Who would take their place?
BIG TROUBLE for KSU!
Ohlde has 3 fouls with 3 minutes left in the half.
Thanks for the links. I think I'll just let it be -- don't want to hear this one! Well, if we stink up the place so bad today that we don't get a sub-regional, then that's our own fault.

Hang in there UT fans...these ladies are quite capable of going on a big run in the 2nd half.
KSU on offense, gets THREE offensive rebounds, finally knocks down the three, at halftime KSU 40-21.
Do you suppose that Coach Conradt has the savvy and experience to make the necessary adjustments at halftime?
Yup, me too.

40-21 is quite a lot to overcome against a good team, especially w/ KSU having something close to home court (I bet they have bunches of fans there).
But Texas has the shooters, if they can get hot.
Ohlde w/ 3 fouls should help.
Wow, didn't expect that differential at all.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, but this is about as flat as I've seen the girls since they last lost to KSU. The best way to frustrate UT is with a zone. And KSU is doing that beautifully. I think Wecker is trying to prove something about the FOY. I really hope that the horns learn a lesson and get it back in time for NCAA's. But as a long term fan - I've seen this pattern before, and it doesn't bode well. Now I really hope that Tech and ISU only live up to their seeding, but boy THEY are mentally prepared. Too bad our players weren't.

And BTW - KSU played a beautiful first half, I never meant to take anything from them in my last post.

Perhaps the other way to look at it is that KSU is living up to their seedings. They beat both UT and Tech this year and I also think KSU has a lot of incentive to continue to demonstrate that they deserve to be in this position...so they may be coming in with a bit more emotion....
Rest assured that Kansas State will have Oklahoma's undivided attention tomorrow night. That game ought to be out-of-this-world exciting!

What's the score...fans only shows 52 to 32 at the 15:02 mark
It's very disappointing that we've gone up to KC and not even been competitive. Not so sure we DESERVE to host after this week's showing. Had we played anybody else in the conference yesterday we would have lost. Hope this isn't another one of those infamous UT end-of-season trends!!!! It does sound like KSU is playing a magnificent game, and I am happy for them. I love their offensive schemes! Should be a good one tomorrow with OU!!!
67-41 KSU.
And if anyone questioned Coach Patterson's COY award, I think those questions have been answered.
Stunning performance by her future (or perhaps present?) national championship contenders.

The announcers said it when UT played Tech in Lubbock and I agree: Stacy Stephens needs to learn how to pass outside to open shooters when she is double and tripled. There HAS to be an open shooter that can knock down the 15 footer. She'll learn to do so though soon. Today, I saw a lot of forced shots from Stephens and the refs aren't going to call ANYTHING in the post during tourney time. I've seen it in other conference tournaments and I wouldn't be surprised to see it in ours. They are gonna let them play.
Does that mean that if OU gets to play UConn again they might not have 26 fouls and run out of players?
I like the concept.

Who knows? When those two teams play it's like all hell let loose with them running up and down the floor against each other. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/cool.gif

Traditionally during the NCAAs they allow much more physical play (a scary thought for the Big 12...can we be any more physical) than normal. As Coach Sharp says...if there isn't a lot of blood involved, they'll allow it http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif especially in the post.

A very bad day to be a Longhorn. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/redface.gif http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/frown.gif
Stacy does need to learn how to pass out of the pass. It is also a team thing. People need to get ready and be ready for the pass. I also think Stacy may have been a little hurt in the first half - bruised ribs, perhaps.
Nothing else constructive to say. I knew we were in trouble within the first few minutes. Texas was forcing turnovers and getting out on the run but failing to convert. The team went 0-4 from the line and missed a couple of easy shots. It was all downhill, head over heals, from there.
Is K-State that good or are the Longhorns making them look that good? Some of each, I suppose. K-State is shooting lights out.
KSU 79-63.
The game was controlled from start to finish by the youngsters from Manhattan.
OU had better be ready.

I'm assuming there were a ton of KSU fans there. Basically a road game for the Sooners, yet I still like OU to win rather handily. Both teams had very impressive performances today. Hopefully the night sessions will offer more competitive games.
That's the worst whoopin' we've had all year. We lost to OU by 20 in Norman, but at least we played even with them until about the last 10 minutes of the game. Today, they mopped up the floor with us the whole game!!! I'm hoping the selection committee looks heavily at the big wins against Tennessee, OU, ISU and not so heavily at losses to Miami, and Texas A&M.
Wishful Thinking!

Hey, KSURon...I'll have my crow fried please! Hopefully the Cyclones can prove YOU wrong, too!
Congrats on what sounds like a solid win! What a game tomorrow with OU! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
Let me add my congratulations to KSU. Today was a demoralizing loss. Now I want some non-Big XII KSU NCAA opponents to feel this same pain.
Texas, get back to Austin, put this week out of mind and for goodness sakes, GET READY TO PLAY!!!
grojc, JK and all Longhorn fans:
After watching this week's performance, I too have had the negative thoughts of "oh no, here we go again". However, let's look at this team's season:
- Back in December, with losses to Miami and an atrocious performance against Penn St., we were all ready to fire Conradt and write off this team's chances in the conference. How did they respond? By reeling off five straight wins (including three on the road and three against ranked teams) to start off conference play.
- In late January/early February, a losing streak developed, including a bad performance at Texas A&M. Again, we the fans (I was one of the main culprits) got down on the team and got ready to pack it in for another season. How did they respond? By knocking off Tennessee and Oklahoma, each ranked 3rd in the country at the time we played them.
This team has been resiliant and determined each time the trend starts going downward. There is no reason to believe they will not do it again! I'm going to support them until they prove this wrong.
As for the hosting possibilities, I think it will be a total travesty if Texas doesn't get a top four seed in one of the regionals. Granted, we'll probably only be a four instead of a 2 or 3 that we might have earned with a gangbuster performance this week, but so be it. It will be good to see NCAA tournament games back in the Erwin Center again.
Hook 'em Horns! Go get 'em in the NCAA's!

Bevo - Well said and I think we will get a NCAA host bid. I'm sorry our girls didn't have their game today, but I'm not ready to count this team out either. I'm also already looking forward to next season.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Longhorns were emotionally drained going into this tournament. They've played many grueling games this season including several overtimes. They have over a week, now, to rejuvenate. The NCAA's should be plenty of motivation.
UT should be solid to host.

There was a great quote in Wednesday's Kansas City Star about the Texas/Kansas game from Jody Conradt..
something about "a team that had everything to lose playing a team that had nothing to lose"...I'll post the "real" quote once I get home tomorrow night.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not giving up! I haven't given up in the 22 years I've been following this program, and certainly won't give up now. I'm just HOPING that this is not another chapter in "The Trend." Personally, I tend to think that our very young team will learn a valuable lesson about the mental aspect of the game, and use it to propel us into the post season. For the record, I have been a bit skeptical at times, but will NEVER give up on JC until she gives up on herself. Again, it's been 22 years!!!

Thanks for the good comments. I do think the team just came out and played their game but I confess I did hear some quiet comments around me about who the real FOY is. Texas did work hard to stopr our conventional inside game but they were never able to deal with Wecker. I was a bit surprised that koehn got as open as she did on occaision but KSU was working the offense better than they did during the slump. I've got to give a call to Brie Madden. That Texas girl did a fine job in relief of Ohlde.
cycofan I got to sit with ISU fans and cheer for the Clones last night. No offense TTU but we all have our favorites. Great game. The ISU band had a chant for a TTU foul shooter I had not heard before, "The ball is very slippery" and they chanted it so loud and clearly I could hear it in the upper deck. Great fans.
Tough loss for Tech. I'm looking forward to the games tonight.
You have got to believe OU will win but I think they will have to earn it. It will be interesting to see the coaching strategies that get used in this game. Frankly I think both teams can just go play without fear. I don't think a loss now will hurt either one much.
Well I've got to go and see if I can find anyone at the Alladin.
GO Big XII.

Dear UT fans. What you saw in KC was what we saw when Tech played KSU... a team that was clicking on all cylinders and seemingly could not miss a shot. They haven't played that way all year , of course. No team does. Let us hope that is the team that shows up in the NCAA! Go Big 12! Damn, I wish I could be saying Go Tech, too. No I don't think we will get a host spot. I do hope that if we don't, we get a 6 rather a 5 seed.

KSUron,
You must have been intoxicated with enthusiasm if you thought ISU was playing TTU! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

FOY - The most likely thing is that Koehn and Wecker split the vote for FOY thus giving the award to Schreiber. The ESPN quick dish named Koehn the national freshman of the year. Anyway, there should be plenty of awards in Wecker's future. She is clearly going to torture the rest of the league for 3 more years! If KSU plays their best in the NCAA, Wecker and Ohlde will be household names among WBB fans very soon. It is hard to imagine a better freshman in the nation than Wecker. The only one I know of who might come close is the Duke freshman, Monique ...(?).

Here's the Conradt quote swok was referring to: "This was a classic situation of a team that played not to lose," Conradt said, "and a team that played with nothing to lose." A classic JC quote, I must say.
Wecker was certainly inspired in her play. Our group also commented that she was trying to prove a point about who was the real Freshman of the Year. And Heather looked like she'd been whisked away to another planet and couldn't find her way around. Kudos to KSU - their offense has me dripping with envy. Too often, UT stands around the perimeter playing hot potato.
Many people are still predicting a host seed for Texas. I don't know if that's wishful thinking or not, but the thought is a solid season with wins over TN at Knoxville and OU at home should count for something. At any rate, we will be playing somewhere and hopefully will be ready. Another quote, this time from Stacy Stephens in the KC paper: "We are a young team. Sometimes you learn a leasson when you get your tails kicked like we did today."
