HOMER pick. I expect BU will win but I ust can NOT pick against my Lady Raiders. It BU can only score 57 pts against OSU in Waco, we've got a chance.

OU over OSU: it just isn't time for OSU yet.
Nebraska at Iowa State: I can't believe that I'm picking against Iowa State at Ames. They seem to be asleep.

Missouri at Texas: Mizzou finally comes down to earth. I look for this to be a dogfight. I hope it's televised.

Colorado at Kansas State: I look for K-State to bounce back at home.

Texas A&M at Kansas: when in doubt, pick the home team.

Baylor at Texas Tech: interesting matchup. I just can't bring myself to pick against Baylor yet.

With the week that I'm having I should just pick the opposite of what I think. But here it goes.

Sat., Jan. 14
Oklahoma at Oklahoma State-OU don't fail me in Stillwater. OU takes an early lead and never looks back, but OSU makes up a little ground at the end of the game.
OU 78 OSU 61

Nebraska at Iowa State- Nebraska and ISU a both bouncing back and forth with wins than loses. ISU just lost so I look for them to win esp. at Hilton. Megan finally gets out of her slump and the 3's are flying for some Hilton Magic. Just hope for the Huskers that Connie Yori stays for the whole game this time. (On a side note I do get to see my friend J. Gerhart play, so I hope she does well.)
ISU 75 NU 66

Missouri at Texas- after Texas put the hurt on the cyclones I think they will be on a role since they get to play at home. Missouri hangs in until the second half than Nina Norman breaks loose.
UT 70 MU 54

Colorado at Kansas State- Look out the Buffs are on a role until they get into Wildcat territory. This is going to be the game of the week. Look for outside play by both teams, but I think I will go with the home team here.
KSU 68 CU 61

Sun., Jan. 15
Texas A&M at Kansas- Kansas finally lost but are back home at Allen Fieldhouse and looking for a bounce back and they find it in a big way.
KU 80 A&M 58

Baylor at Texas Tech- This is also going to be a great game this weekend. Tech is on a down slope this season and any way to redeem themselves would be to beat Baylor. However the Bears also need this win to stay near/at the top of the league. Sorry Red not enough to pull out a win.

Gee, these picks just keep getting easier and easier this year!

And if you believe that, I have bridge I want to sell you. I currently have it in Arizona, but I can arrange shipping for the right price. Oh, and a handling charge too...

Sat., Jan. 14
Oklahoma at Oklahoma State
I'm just waiting for the game where a bunch of people will look like buffoons after picking OSU's opponent, because I have a feeling it's going to happen, and maybe sooner rather than later.

Nebraska at Iowa State
This is a hunch pick, and I very easily could be wrong. Home teams have been tearing it up in the Big 12 this year.

Missouri at Texas
Missouri stays at plus 1, but their conference record slides gently to 3-1. Texas laughs again at the interminable stupidity of the national media.

Colorado at Kansas State
Uh-Oh, this is a nightmare pick. Colorado played their best game in ages yesterday, KSU is floundering. I'll take another flyer, and hope that one right pick makes up for one ill-advised one. Obviously if this is right it won't make up for two, or three bad ones. As if this isn't a bad one... I GIVE UP!

Sun., Jan. 15
Texas A&M at Kansas
I'm jumping on the Aggie bandwagon now. KU may be a year or two away. A&M is a pain, Gary Blair is a joy. How did this happen?

Baylor at Texas Tech
Gee, these picks are SO easy. I'd be insane to pick against Baylor, wouldn't I?

Oklahoma at Oklahoma State: Your Oklahoma Ford dealers and the Bank of Oklahoma present ... a lopsided Bedlam!
Nebraska at Iowa State: Iowa State, in 12 overtimes.
Missouri at Texas: Jerry Palm will have to start respecting Texas a little more after Saturday.
Colorado at Kansas State: Kansas State limps back into Bramlage thirstin' for a win
Texas A&M at Kansas: Texas A&M in a "prove-it" sort of game
Baylor at Texas Tech: Baylor, musically speaking, turns Marsha # into Marsha b.

OU-Sorry but this could be really sad!

ISU-This is a coin toss going with the home team.

Texas-Come on TJ and EA.

KU-We have to prove that we aren't the worst team in the Big 12.

Baylor-should be a good one though.

KSU-give em some KS hospitality;)

Iowa State-Hard to beat at home

Missouri-These ladies are on a roll, play physical and are building confidence. Plus Jackson is still not 100%. Ankle is still a problem.

Kansas State-Colorado will not win many conference games this year

Texas A&M-Almost beat Tech at home. These gals are going to win more than they lose

Baylor-Will not lose more than two games in conference play, therefore never pick against them

Oklahoma over Oklahoma State - pick to road team

Nebraska over Iowa State - pick to road team

Texas over Missouri - I've picked against the Tigers 3 times now and been 3 times wrong; I guess this pick just insures Coach Stein remains in the driver's seat.

Kansas State over Colorado - really tempted to go with the Buffs on this one, but home court does have its advantages

Texas A&M over Kansas - pick to road team

Baylor over Texas Tech - pick to road team

Oklahoma at Oklahoma State......BEDLAM! (sort of) Oklahoma 85, Oklahoma State 57...Courtneyzilla Destroys Stillwater.

Miss Yori's Finishing School at Iowa State.....Just when I thought my lasses in red would put up consistent efforts and play tough all season, then they meet Missouri and play like sorority girls at a tea. This game will be an important test. How do we bounce back from a game where we got punked and reach up to get a win.

ISU is shaky at points, but they have a huge advantage if Medders is on the floor. Otherwise, it comes down to ISU's ability to shoot and our ability defend against it.

I'm taking the homer pick because if we don't win we're are in deep trouble with Texas at home and TTU in Lubbock coming up.

Nebraska 64, Iowa State 62

Missouri at Texas..............Texas showed how good they can be against Iowa State. Missouri beat Nebraska, but some of the weaknesses showed. Memo to Texas. Don't get intimidated and defend them tight. Missouri can be sloppy with the ball.

Texas 68, Missouri 66

Colorado at Kansas State.....The Buffs are playing better, but I see Bramledge being just enough of a winning edge.

Kansas State 67, Colorado 61

Sun., Jan. 15
Texas A&M at Kansas........I see 45 minutes here. Kansas got some stuff punches in the mouth this week. TAMU needs to get something cooking if they want in the postseason.
I like the Aggies to pull one out.
Texas A&M 74, Kansas 71 (OT)

Baylor at Texas Tech........Bellweather game for Texas Tech. If they can pull this one down it could turn their season around, if they don't it could sink it. I don't see it happening because TTU can't score enough points to get this win.

Baylor 68, Texas Tech 55

Home court delight, except the TV games.

Oklahoma at Oklahoma State - Courtney didn't even know what Red River Rivalry was, I'm guessing she doesn't know what Bedlam is either.....she says, "who cares - Red River or Bedlam - Coach Coale said if they were orange of any flavor - I'm to go into attack mode :D ." Actually, that zone that OSU plays means Higgy and Rushie and Welchie have to come with the hot hands to Stillwater. Never, ever underestimate a Big XII Opponent!

Nebraska at Iowa State - I'm liking the home team, but someone cook Medders some chicken soup and make sure she takes her vitamins ;)

Missouri at Texas - Welcome to the South of Texas, these young girls just about have it figured out and Austin is an awfully tough place to get a win.

Colorado at Kansas State - Home! Home! How amazing how a team can find an offense (or a defense) or a missing player just being in front of a friendly crowd.

Texas A&M at Kansas - Home again! KU left on a winning tear and got bruised and battered by two on the road, they leave the day 2-2.

Baylor at Texas Tech - I don't know, the Lady Raiders can be pretty tough at home; I just think Baylor finds ways to win. KMR got duped and thrown a left sucker punch at Missouri.........it ain't happenin' again :D

Oklahoma thrashes OSU- Sorry, Big oil money was meant for football.

Nebraska wins at ISU- Freethrows are the bedrock of the game, if we get a call on the road, make them! Hope we play Man this game, who do you suppose we need to guard? The Huksters can win on the road at ISU this year!

Texas lassos the girls in black from MU by a slim margin

Colorado wins at KSU- Altitude is not a factor. No leader on wildcat team is! Until they find a leader, they are spiraling downward. And it is not Claire.

Kansas beats A&M- Bonnie is too good of a coach to let them get beat after two lousy games.

Baylor wins at Tech- National champions are finding some rythum.

Oklahoma at Oklahoma State - Oklahoma

Nebraska at Iowa State - Nebraska
I don't put too much stock in what happened to NU in the Mizzou game. That is not a good match-up for Nebraska. They will bounce back strong.

Missouri at Texas - Missouri
This is an against the grain prediction but I like the Tiger defense to be a major factor in this game. They have a lot more speed and defensive smarts than many are giving them credit for. Texas is a somewhat sleeping giant and much better than their record, but I don't think the players will be quite ready to belive what MU will do. They are going to want a rematch.

Colorado at Kansas State - Kansas State

Sun., Jan. 15
Texas A&M at Kansas - Texas A&M
Again this pick is a bit against the grain but the Aggies defense is driving teams nuts. Like MU they have defensive quickness and are very agressive. KU is good but I think A&M will get a lot of TO's from KU or KU will start to settle for outside shots. In either case A&M wins.

Baylor at Texas Tech - Baylor

Would you believe the only home team I picked was my homies! I must be NUTS!

GO Big 12!

Overall, those teams that lost their last game on the road -- Iowa State, Kansas State, Kansas -- will be out for blood once they're back in the comfort of their home court.

Oklahoma - OSU will get better. Next year, maybe.
Iowa State
Texas - hopefully they're getting a sense of what their potential really is
Kansas State

Kansas
Baylor - I'd like to think Tech will win this one. Maybe this will be the one I miss this time around.

arghhhhhhhh, I guess there's no easy this season.
A good sign for our conference, a bad sign for my pick'em...

Sat., Jan. 14
Oklahoma at Oklahoma State - What I think is my easy pick of the week... :ou:
Nebraska at Iowa State - My gut tells me to pick the home team, but Nebraska has been playing solid ball. However, when it comes down to it, I think that Iowa State wants to make a statement and there will be several THOUSANDS people there to back up that statement. It'll be down to the wire, but :isu:
Missouri at Texas - While Missouri may be at the top of the Big 12 pile right now, Texas found some synergy against Iowa State. They are riding that excitement while getting to play at home again. :ut:
Colorado at Kansas State - While they played magically against Kansas, I think a big part of that magic occured because they were at home. Being on the road will be challenging and I think that K-State has the upper hand. :ksu:

Sun., Jan. 15
Texas A&M at Kansas - Every time I start to make a pick, something sways me to the other side. Both teams have something to prove. Kansas wants to fight its way back to the winning side of the conference, A&M wants to prove their time has arrived and they can win on the road. A&M almost beat Tech on the road; Kansas beat Texas at home. When it comes down to it, I feel that I must go with the home team :ku:
Baylor at Texas Tech - I'm a homer. What can I say? If they play defense like they played against Oklahoma State, they can take on anyone :bu:

Alright, I suppose it's time I stopped being Hoopscop's Flake of the Month and started getting down to biznazz. No more missing Pick'ems for me. Thermodynamics and Chemical Hydrogeology will have to wait...

Let's start by just admitting that we're all a little flummoxed - dare I say, DUMBFOUNDED - by the way the conference has started. The big dogs down south are underachieving while some of the puppies up north have gotten cheeky (save the Huskers, who have seemed to hover at about the same level for 2 1/2 seasons now...) Tems are going from chump to champ and vice-versa in a span of 3 days. Next thing you know Kurt Budke is gonna eat some live worms at halftime and the Cowgirls are gonna up and beat the Sooners 37-36... ;)

But, hey, variety is then spice of life, no? If it ain't NEW it's THROUGH, blah blah blah...I mean, we could all just be sitting around letting the La-Z-Boy turn orange from Cheeto dust while our keyboards collect cobwebs as Baylor and Texas just whoop up on everyone....so let's take this moment to just ponder what other surprises might await this year, and enjoy these twilight moments of uncertainty before Gary Blair hatches his final plan for world domination...

Oklahoma at Oklahoma State - the growing pains continue for Captain Kurt and his Collection of Castaways. Although....perhaps, maybe, the talent in Stillwater can come together long enough to stay in this one. Whitney Pegram has some game, as does Shaunte Smith and Taylor Hardeman. Their problem has largely been playing together. . OU, on the other hand, is beginning to find it's groove, and Courtney Paris could likely cover and score over two Pegrams if she has to. The rest of the Sooners should be able to stay awake long enough to put the Cowgirls to bedlam...

Nebraska at Iowa State - this is a little trickier. At this point, Nebraska SHOULD be able to take this one, but true to recent form, the Huskers haven't seemed to able to get over that hump of every game being a crapshoot. This one rides on two big IFs: If Hardy comes to play for 40 minutes and leads her team; and IF Lyndsey Medders can go - at full strength. The Cyclones missed her badly in Austin (as did I  ); they need her experience and tenacity to anchor them. If Medders is up for this one, I think the Twisters get it back on track against the unstable Huskers. This is the Hilton, after all...

Missouri at Texas - lo and behold, look who's decided to start playing basketball again. The Horns finally got off the mat Wednesday night, and nwas more worried about this one last week than I am now. Mizzou ain't chock full of talent, but they're not spares - and this team is benefitting from 3 solid years of playing together. They're doing it well. Texas will have to contend with a formidable inside game as well as Savant, who has become quite the inside-out forward. But Nina and TJ have served notice and I don't think they let this one get away. Home court is too important this year to squander away.

Colorado at Kansas State - another pair of Jekyll-and-Hyde teams. KSU got ambushed Wednesday night and I think their pride is smarting a bit; the Buffs are probably feeling a little confidence, but we're at Bramlage here, and that's still a home court that matters. Maybe the most interesting game of the weekend...

Texas A&M at Kansas - hey don't look now, but the Agginas are a mere bucket away from being 3-0. Really. This team is hot, and feeling it. Blair's talent is finally beginning to show itself as I knew it would, and woe to he or she who does not take A&M seriously this year. They have the speed to burn the Jayhawks, who are smarting from a smacking on Wednesday, and will show what they're made of when they take the floor in Lawrence today. This game will tell us which one of these teams is for real. A road win is what the Ags need to really get going, and this is a perfect opportunity to steal one.

Edit...Of course I didn't mean to blow off Baylor and Tech. Just wanted to get today's picks in by post time, and I needed to think a little more about tomorrow's Hoedown on the High Plains....

Baylor at Texas Tech - tomorrow at 2 pm - and you know what that means, kids: break out the red-and-black Sunday-go-meetin' clothes (green and gold if you're in Waco), and make sure the busboys at Luby's wear their running shoes, cause folks are gonna be eating lunch in a hurry.

I don't need to remind anyone here that this won't exactly play out like a quilting bee. We all know how these games usually turn out. The Good Lord may want us to take it easy on Sundays, but Baylor and Tech is a holy war, and it's quickly becoming the best rivalry in the Big 12 (that's right, I said it...).

If you ain't ready to take a take a fat poke in the eye or a few hard elbows to your ribs and then dish 'em right back - if you ain't ready to get up close and personal with the hardwood and get downright Greco-Roman on it - if you ain't up for the sound and the fury and the agony and the ecstasy - and if you aren't ready to play some serious defense, then stay the hell away from the floor at Marsha's Big House tomorrow afternoon. The meek may inherit the earth someday, but they've got no business being on that court tomorrow.

Tech's defense has been solid and it's kept them in almost every contest thus far. They've struggled to put the ball in the hole and it's cost them some important games. Well, big deal. Baylor's had the same problem of late. The Lady Bears were supposed to be a rolling ball of butcher knives, but they have yet to put up more than 61 points in their 3 conference games, including a whopping 57 against the likes of OSU. That ain't good. And if not for their good fortune of catching a banged up and offensively dysfunctional Texas squad last Saturday, they could be 1-2 right now.

So we hear that KMR is on the warpath with regard to her team's offensive output, and a breakout is looming. Problem is that Tech isn't exactly the kind of team that just allows you to get your shooting touch back. LaToya Davis is a hard-boiled defender who can make life difficult for Sophia and Co.; it's up to Tech's perimeter to keep the Bears' long-ballers in check.

The Lady Raiders can keep Baylor in the 50's; can they push themselves into the 60s? I say they can, but only because of the venue; it'll be another barnburner - and who among us would have it any other way? Here's to another low-scoring, grind-it-out OT classic. They really should make this a tradition: Baylor vs. Tech, always on a Sunday afternoon - a true test of Christian charity and good will.

John Henry, Baylor plays at Texas Tech tomorrow, so you might want to pick that game as well before tip-off at 2 PM CST.

BTW, great post as usual!
