KSU won 69-59 but may have lost BIG. With about a minute and a half to go in the game Shana Wheeler suffered a knee injury. An MRI is scheduled to be done but the speculation is that it is the dreaded three letter word and Shana is gone for the year. Coach Patterson said she will try to get her a medical redshirt but the prospects for that may not be good. This was our ninth game. Wheeler had played very good defense in the game and got some nice blocks. She will be missed big time.

Good Luck Shana!

By MECHELLE VOEPEL - The Kansas City Star - Kansas State forward Shana Wheeler had an MRI on Wednesday, and it confirmed what the Wildcats thought Monday after she was injured at Creighton. Wheeler has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee and will miss the rest of this season.

There is some good news, though, coach Deb Patterson said. Only the ACL was injured, not any other part of the knee. In December 2000, when she was a freshman at Lee’s Summit, Wheeler hurt her left knee more severely, with damage to the ACL, medial collateral ligament and meniscus.

“With this, we’re looking at a rehab that — if everything goes well — should be a little easier than what she went through in high school,” Patterson said. “We’re thinking by the start of the summer, she’ll be able to be out on the court again, getting back to playing.”

Wheeler, a 6-foot-2 sophomore who started 22 games last season, had come off the bench in the Wildcats’ nine games this year and averaged 4.0 points and 3.9 rebounds. She was injured with 1 minute, 29 seconds left in K-State’s victory at Creighton while digging into her defensive stance trying to stop the Bluejays’ penetration.

Jimi and all other K-State fans - a tough loss. It has to be so hard for these women who have worked so hard to have to sit out like that. At least she knows what she's up against in rehab having been through it before. Let's pray for a full recovery and return to the court.

Sorry Jimi to hear this I know how you feel about Shana. Let's hope she heals up fast and well so you can again watch and admire her from center court next year! :)
