I wish this was on tv. Is it really possible that we have shot more free throws that we have from the field?
19-21 from the free throw line is one way to overcome 11 first half turnovers.

I agree with Chipper--why didn't Jina start?
ISU is getting lots of free throw practice tonight! It sounds like NU's main strategy is foul, foul, foul.
They announced that the session attendance record was broken by over 3000. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

69-46 ISU with 6:49 left.
Robinette, Cannon, and Johnson have all fouled out.

What are thoughts? Does ISU need to win one or two more to host? The ISU announcers interviewed some "expert" at half time who said that a win tonight would get ISU a 4-seed.
The expert was Joe Smith of WBNS.

I didn't catch who he was. Just caught the end of the interview. I also heard he said that UCONN would be coming to Ames for the Regionals.
I still personally think Tennessee will be in Ames. UConn will be out east, Duke (if a 1 seed) will be in the Mideast and OU will be sent out west.

mred, are you listening on the internet? During a timeout, Rich and BJ said that Coach F. also thinks Tennessee will be coming to Ames.

Where's the west regional this year?
Mideast is Milwaukee and Midwest is Ames. What about the east as well?
Yeah, I am. I just think that scenario makes the most sense.

I hope TN comes to Ames. Regardless of the Iowa State scenario, I would be thrilled to get to see a Pat Summit work the sidelines in person!

The East Regional is in Raleigh and in Duke's backyard. Duke will be the #1 in the East.
If OU can win out, I think they will have earned the right not to go East, and will be in the Mideast. Uconn in the Midwest, and TN will go West (or Vandy).
Just my 2 cents worth...probably dead wrong all around. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

I hope ISU gets to host and I would like to think they are at least close. If you look at the folks below them I think they should host but you never know. I hope more that KSU hosts. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

Well, we at least the lasses didn't get completely blown out. Doesn't help when you give the other team 36 points. Doesn't help when you have three kids foul out, and God only knows where Steph Jones was tonight. We lose Cannon, Robinette and Alexa Johnson, with nothing really to show for the effort.
This was a poor defensive effort on Nebraska's part in my view. This is pathetic that we fouled this much, and it wasn't because of anything that had to do with good defense. We were getting beat most of the night, and people were a step behind. Iowa State forced fouls like crazy. What the heck is this? Hack-A-Shaq? Hack-An-Angie?
And why not start Johansen and get into an offensive rhythm. More Clyde Crashcup Coaching by Pale Sanderfraud. Once we settled down, we got in sync, then we get out of sync again.
For the Cyclones part, again, a finely executed ballgame. They had turnovers problem early (thank God for that, or the score would have been really obscene). Angie Welle had 22 points and 10 board, another efficient, probably got them all on free throws.
Overall Outlook: I can't say we didn't play with any heart tonight. We did at points.
But when this team isn't heartless, it can be stupid, and tonight this team played dumb basketball.
In my mind, the endless fouls was DUMB basketball. It wasn't aggressive. It wasn't physical. Are we so bad that we had to play Marty McSorley Ball tonight?
And what was with benching Jina. Why Bench Jina? I didn't get this starting lineup tonight, but then again, I don't get why Paul Sanderford still has a job.
Well, it's over for another year. Nebraska for the second straight year is a losing proposition. Well we did manage to beat a few good teams. They did beat Creighton, Northern Iowa, Kansas State and Texas A&M. That isn't all bad, if it wasn't for the 16 games they lost.
I fear another year under Paul Westmorelanderford, and the upperclassmen we have. We'll basically have the same time next year, and tonight I'm more discouraged about this team then I was last year.
About the rest of the tournament: Oh baby. The suckers have been flushed out. The real players in this poker game are at the table. DEAL THE CARDS! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

When I watched the Huskers play in Lubbock a couple weeks ago, I wasn't quite sure of what I was seeing. Set aside the scoring margin, because Tech played inspired ball throughout. There were spurts when the Huskers played very hard even late in the game when the score was out of hand. They even fought hard for tie balls when they could have just conceded possession. On the other hand, there were lulls where they played kind of lazy even early in the game when the issue was far from decided. This was puzzling, but I had to chalk it up to the lack of mental toughness that Chipper has alluded to. Tech has suffered from that a little bit too, but it was more glaring for the Huskers in that game. Nebraska seemed undisciplined and unfocused, sometimes, on both ends of the court, but then there were flashes of brilliance on both offense and defense at other times. They looked like a team with considerable talent and an untapped potential to play with grit and determination. They lose only one inspirational player from this year's team. If the players get it in their minds that they are going to win, and Sanderford can command their respect, they will be serious contenders next year. If those things don't happen, they will flop again. That's a pretty ambivalent conclusion, but so was their play.
