I'm not so sure Tech beats Mizzou. And that's not a slap to Tech fans, because Tech is playing some solid basketball (OU does that to a lot of teams in Norman, so throw it out). I recall Mizzou beating TT pretty decisively in Columbia earlier this year. And while the scores don't reflect it, MU has been playing better of late. They hung in there with OU for awhile, and that KSU game was tighter than the score reflected. It seems that they hang for 25-30 minutes and then go away.

OSU is indeed on a roll. Bedlam III will be a test for the Sooners, but they'll survive.

UT-KSU will be a game. KSU having home court will help, but this isn't the same UT team that KSU beat in OT this year. Nor is it the same KSU team. I think UT pulls it out.

There's always an upset in the tourney and Mizzou is my pick to face BU. BU will beat the Tigers to advance to the semis.

ISU-CU are you kiddin me? ISU will have the home crowd, but I think CU gets the win. CU is playing some great ball right now.

CU vs BU: Call me crazy, but I like CU in the rematch.
UT vs OU: UT in the finale

Thus creating a highly unlikely CU vs UT FINAL.

Colorado wins.

Hey, it COULD happen! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif

Big12Bear. I'm your biggest fan...I have been looking over this scenario a lot, and I wonder if it could happen. That was an impressive win your ladies pulled off last night...ISU will be chomping at the bit to get a rematch with y'all...

tournament fact:

No Big XII team has ever played on Tuesday and won the tournament. I recall Texas was in the game 2 years ago after having played on Tuesday, not sure about other years.

I did hear that statement last week and wanted to point it out.

I just about wish we didn't have a Big 12 tourney this year. I'm leaning toward the view that it is just a chance for every team but one to pick up an extra loss. It is a chance for the top teams to expend a lot of energy and perhaps suffer an injury to an important player. Most of the top teams are playing well right now and I wish they could just head on to the NCAA.

I always feel that way when Tech is a lock for a top 4 seed, but this year's different. We need a couple more wins and the tournament gives us a chance for that, if they'll just take advantage of it.

Press, I'd feel just like you if I was a Texas Tech fan. Tech is the Big 12 team with the most to gain in terms of the NCAA tourney this year. Certainly, Texas used a Big 12 tourney run a couple of years ago to get in the NCAA with a decent seed.

I agree, as Sherri Coale said last night.......I just wish the thing would blow away.

I understand conference tourney's for smaller DI schools where only 1 bid is awarded from their conference, and that bid typically going to the "tournament" champ. I'd really like to see all "power" conferences do away with the conference tournament....meaning the Big XII, SEC.....probably even the Big 10, given that their SOS is 3rd.

It does nothing for OU, BU, KSU, UT, CU, ISU, except perhaps affect their seeding. These teams are in the tourney no matter the outcome of the conference tournament. And, if I'm not mistaken, say in OU's case.....they could possibly be affected by losing their #1 seed if they faulter on the way to the championship game. Though I'm not entirely certain that OU is a lock for a #1 seed TODAY.

I'm more in favor of rewarding the teams that have played solid for the 8 weeks PRIOR to the conference tournament.

Having said that, looking at a team like Texas Tech, who I can't believe could be left out of the tournament DUE to their RPI and SOS.....if they should lose their first game in the tournament, they could possibly not be invited.....they've lost 5 of the last 10, though 4 of those were to Top 25 opponents. I think they stand overall at 17-9, they may need to win another game to be "solid".....I, personally don't see how TTU could be left out given the Big XII's strength and the RPI rankings of those top 7.

Hmmmm, Iowa State may be in the position of needing to win a couple to "host".....

In minor conferences, I never like to see the regular season champion lose the tournament. I mean, they work hard and play consistently well throughout the season to earn a conference championship, then they have one bad game in the tournament, and they lose their bid. Seems kind of sad. On the other hand, they're usually minced meat for some traditional power in the first round. If they lose their NCAA bid, they might get to play a competitive game in the WNIT.

Of course nothing is certain when guessing at other people's impressions, but OU seems very likely to be a #1 seed even if they lose their first game in the tournament. At least, if they play OSU. A&M's low RPI could hurt a little if they happened to be the opponent, but even so, winning the Big12 with 4 or fewer losses on the season should be enough.

I'm not really worried about Tech getting into the tournament, but seeding is at stake. If Tech were to lose to MU, they probably still would not fall below a #6 seed. If they beat MU and lose to BU, they may end up a #5. If they're not going to host, a #6 seed might be a better bracket than a #5. Obviously, I want them to make the championship game or win the whole caboodle which would give them an excellent chance to host.

I too think Tech is a lock for the NCAA with their RPI and SOS, but we're playing for a chance to host and this team knows that.

On one hand the tournament can really mess stuff up...the PAC 10 coaches know that now. Teams like ASU and Washington who finished tied for 2nd after Stanford, still stand a chance of a bid but if they lose early on in the tourney..Stanford may be the only team from the PAC 10 in the big dance.

On the other hand, the tournaments throw in a wildcard element when a low seeded team comes out of nowhere, wins the tournaments, gets the automatic bid and does some damage in the NCAA. OSU would love to be that team...be very careful of the Cowgirls.

I'm picking Colorado or Baylor to win the tournament and my money is on Colorado.

First Round - Tuesday, March 5
Game 1: Oklahoma State vs Texas A&M, Noon....
Battle of the WNIT teams here. I like Oklahoma State to win one more for Halterman, in a close ballgame.
Oklahoma State 75, Texas A&M 71

Game 2: Texas vs Kansas, 2:30 p.m......This will be a rare time that Kansas City won't have a lot of Kansas fans in it. Hook 'em horns.

Texas 85, Kansas 57

Game 3: Texas Tech vs Missouri, 6 p.m.....The Tigers will come to fight, but the Lady Raiders will take control mid first half and carry the fight.

Texas Tech 78, Missouri 65

Game 4: Iowa State vs Nebraska, 8:30 p.m.....
Nebraska won two more games than they did last year, but actually got worse..You'll understand why Tuesday.

Iowa State 87, Nebraska 57

Second Round - Wednesday, March 6
Game 5: Oklahoma State vs Oklahoma, Noon...The Sooners begin the March to Midwest #1, and Oklahoma State can start preparing for the WNIT

Oklahoma 83, Oklahoma State 66

Game 6: Texas vs Kansas State, 2:30 p.m....Kansas State's youngsters will make the NCAAs no doubt, but Proud Jody keep on burnin'
Texas 78, Kansas State 72

Game 7: Texas Tech vs Baylor, 6 p.m....Baylor still has hopes of a hot seed, but Guns Up shoots 'em down in a close shave
Texas Tech 69, Baylor 68

Game 8: Iowa State vs Colorado, 8:30 p.m....It's tough to win in Ames South, and Colorado will find that out.
Iowa State 75, Colorado 69

Game 9: Red River War....Oklahoma vs. Texas
Stacey Watts, LaNeisha Sims and the Sherribone roll Texas into submission.

Oklahoma 80, Texas 68

Game 10: Texas Tech vs. Iowa State....It'll be Lindsey Wilson's night. 31 points, 8 assists...Even Guns Up doesn't have the firepower of ICBM State.

Iowa State 82, Texas Tech 75

Big 12 Championship Game.....Oklahoma vs. Iowa State...
There's a reason why its called "Ames South".

Iowa State 76, Oklahoma 73

CyFanRick, Just want to point out that it was UT that fell to ISU in the championship game two years ago at the tournament. I'll never forget it because I wasn't there to watch my horns go so far, even having to play on Tuesday

What I meant was 3 Big 12 tournament championships in a row. Sorry if I offended you by thinking that it was OU 3 years in a row. Good luck to your favorite team(s) in the tourney.

I truly love reading Chipper's posts, since he obviously "does his homework", his posts are insightful as well as amusing. Early on, it would strike fear in me when he would pick BU to lose a close game. However, as the year wore on and the victories would occur in spite of his thumbs down, I've come to look forward to his picking the Bears to lose a close one.

Therefore, Chipper, thank you for your consistency in selecting the Red Raiders by one on Wednesday. I hope the Bears can be just as consistent.

Happy to help the Baylor cause, Bears one.

Baylor will be another one of those teams come the NCAAs that will scare folks, partly because of their scrap, and partly because people really don't know the Bears. Some people have cried, "Baylor is overrated." I would dare say Baylor is underrated. You'd be surprised the number of people who haven't heard of their primary weapons.

This Big 12 conference is primed to earn a lot of respect.

I am NOT making game picks in this tournament. I have been wrong more often than right this year and do not want to jinx my team!

My take on the tournament is that we either ought to do away with it or hold it the same time frame as the SEC,ACC,Big 10,Pac 10, etc. By having four days of fierce competition immediately before the NCAA, we always go in with tired legs, bruised bodies, and aggravated injuries whereas the other conferences have an extra week to rest and heal. I believe THAT is the reason the Big 12 teams have so much trouble making it past the sweet sixteen!

Chipper, I'm still worried about Robin Roberts and you having us as an 8th seed in NCAA's. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/wink.gif If we lose, we might just have to hope for the best, like an at-large bid.

Let's get this Big 12 Tourney started already! The locals are gettin' restless! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
