Four score and four points, seven months ago, brought forth on this continent a new women’s national basketball champion, the Baylor University Lady Bears, who are dedicated to the proposition that all women are not created equal. Now they are soon to be engaged in another season of hard-fought battles, testing whether that team, or any team, can long endure another trip to the Final Four. It is altogether fitting and proper that Baylor should do this.
Today at high noon they are meeting on a great court the Georgia Lady Bulldogs. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what the Bears will do here. Millions will watch; even the eyes of Texas shall be upon them. Shine, Baylor University--shine for Baylor and shine for Waco and area.
The team will be dedicated here to the great task remaining before them--unfinished business, which they who will fight here, have thus far so nobly advanced. It is to them to take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion--that this team, under God, shall have three more new championships--the Big XII, the conference and the national, so that all fans, in a larger sense, can rest in peace and shout with joy and will not have cried in vain.
