I met Karen's parents in Kansas City at the women's Big XII tourney in 2000 (I think), happened to end up sitting right next to them. They were telling me that Karen is the one who was bringing all these top level recruits into Austin, as they were both beaming from ear to ear. ;)

A Couple of very good articles in the Dallas paper tonite...

Fantastic articles!!!! I think Jody hits the nail on the head.

One of the things that has always interested me is the effect of his HS kid being told how wonderful she is by everyone, getting to D1 and just not making the grade - never fulfilling her potential as a BB player. That must be hard to handle at 18/19 years old. I watched Walker last year and my respect for her soared - she was the first off the bench every time a teammate was replaced, smiling, cheering, all around being a great supporter. If she got lucky, she might have played a minute or two at the end of a game. In my book, that is a great kid.

Great reads. But if Jody had Erika on the top of her list above Courtney, that was a serious miscalculation, especially since Ashley came with her. I doubt that was the situation, though. I'm sure if Texas signed the twin towers, the story would be a little different.

Not so fast, Vickie1. The Paris twins have played one game against a NAIA school. Hardly a formidable, if even a mediocre, test. Good teams will double team OU's inside and force the guards to shoot. That could spell trouble for OU.
Erika, along with the six other recruits, are great pick-ups for Texas. Let's wait until it's all said and done before proclaiming superiority. :)

vickie.....I was talking to my "in the know" buddies last summer before any one committed anywhere and all along they said they would rather have a point guard over a post player...I didn't agree with them; but I've always been partial to the Caton Hills' and the Leah Rushs' of the world :D

I don't think it was any great secret that all three wanted to sign together. We were after all three and Texas was after all three.

This is how I feel about recruiting (or not getting a particular recruit):

It wasn't meant to be

I look forward to watching Erika play, it's obvious she was THE point guard that everyone wanted last summer.

I'd rather see a kid go where they will be happy.......period. Whomever OU ends up with, that's who I'll cheer for.

....that's a bold statement, isn't it?? Come on, the season hasn't even started yet....why the smack already? I seriously doubt it was a 'miscaculation' as you stated. Jody goes after what she thinks is best for her team. If the twins are happy at OU....great!! Believe me, the Longhorn world is not going to come apart at the seams because of one player not choosing TEXAS. We can't get 'em all..............

I would really appreciate if SMACK talk took place someplace else. It's not what Hoopscoop is about today, nor what it has ever been about, IMO. There are a gazillion other places on the internet for that.

Wow. I didn't talk smack. I actually said that if the twins had gone to Texas like Ashley wanted to, the story would have been different. Obviously we needed post players more than Texas, but I still don't believe if Jody was sitting there with a decision that was Paris twins vs Erika, she wouldn't have had second thoughts. That's all. Frankly I think it was more the reporter being a mouthpiece. So, chill.
