over NAIA OCC. OCC is actually one of the top NAIA teams and Sherri went to school there. Here are some halftime stats:

OU shooting 52%, 80% at the FT line
OU 31-13 in rebounds

Courtney:

17 pts, 11 boards, one assist, one block (I thought she had two?)

Ashley:

10 pts, 9 boards.

Chelsea and Britney have 3 assists each.

Are the twins as advertised or what? Courtney hit a double, double with 4 minutes left in the first half!

Ashley also has a double, double now. 12 pts, 12 boards. This is fun. Unfortunately I didn't go to the game because I have work to do at home. Haven't touched it yet. I may be up until midnight finishing my work!

Sooners 71-29.

Courtney has 25 pts, 18 boards now. Ashley 14 pts, 15 boards. OU leading rebounding 54-21. Go figure....

SoonerSports supposedly has live video of the game. I've been a member for a couple of years non-stop now, and I still have problems. I log into the O-Zone, and then click to view the video and it tells me that this is premium content and I have to sign in. I sign in and it says invalid login. I log in again just fine, repeat, repeat.

Have them send me my password, yes, it's the same as it's always been. Even copy and paste the password thinking my typing could be faulty, no difference.

I've been going through this for more than two years. I'm calling up the athletic department and telling them that if I have to deal with this much more they won't be getting my money any more.

I swear, that's just pathetic. I'm so tired of this, can't they do this one thing competently? I assume they make money off of it, but you'd never know from the endless difficulties I've had accessing the games.

I'll give you final stats, but OH MY GAWD! Courtney and Ashley averaged a rebound a minute! Sherri is just saying that Britney and Kendra did a great job of pushing the tempo. Sherri is saying we didn't do a good job blocking out; used size for the huge rebounding advantage.

Methinks this will be a fun season.... :)

final stats

OU 58% shooting
OU 70% FT shooting
OU 65-27 rebounds (twins had 41 of them!)

CP stats:

25 pts
18 rebounds
2 blocks
1 assist
19 minutes!

AP stats:

20 pts
23 boards
1 block shot
3 assists
I think she had 22 minutes

Leah

15 pts
5 boards

Chelsea

11 pts
5 boards

All in all, I will take it!!!

BTW, some comments during the game from guys on OUinsider who are football, mens hoops fans, they were astonished at the twins. They were watching the ozone.

It's funny, Brian Brinkley is talking right now about Courtney being the Wayman Tisdale of women's hoops.

YCN

Wayman was a terrific player, but Courtney is MUCH bigger in the women's game than Wayman was in the men's.

It will take people a while to understand what we have, who she is. But I've been saying for a long time now, from more than a year before she verballed to OU, that she was just about as good as they get.

Ashley playing that well is a shock. I really didn't expect that much from her this early.

I hope nobody minds if I continue to stand by my prediction that OU will win the Big 12 this year, and that anything less than making the regional final will be a big disappointment to this team. Naturally, I expect them to go farther than that.

Yeh, Syb, that's about it!

SW did predict Ashley would be the most improved player by seasons end. She was wrong. It was by the end of the first game!

You are right, YCN, Courtney will have a bigger impact than Wayman. But I think she will be similar in that she has the same demeaner that Wayman had. I absolutely loved Wayman because he was such a great guy on and off the court. Courtney will be the same.

Brian Brinkley predicted we would have to go to UCONN if we win the first 2 WNIT games. That would be interesting, wouldn't it?

ok, I'm stil wowing.

Chelsi looked awesome, YCN. Most of her baskets came from driving the lane. Leah Rush has been learning to do "hangtime". Krista looked really good, using her body well around the basket.

You had to be there to really appreciate what I mean when I say wow.....
those two California kids are flat out awesome. BOTH of them; Courtney must have had the first 8 rebounds in the first 2 minutes of the game. She is a HUGE target offensively and she doesn't drop a pass. Ashley blew me away tonite, I really thought it would take her some "adapting" time.......ha.
The chemistry between these two is phenomenal, they make each other better when both are on the court. And if you want the ball fed to the post no matter how many are hanging off of Courtney, let Ashley pass it in.....

Most amazing stat tonite: Courtney Paris 0 fouls. Ashley Paris 2 fouls.

This is our only exhibition game this season......next Friday, the WNIT begins.

We would have to win three games and play UConn for the Championship. There's also a possibility that we would have to travel to New Mexico for Game 3.

No.....we will probably be up against New Mexico. The WNIT committee awards home courts as they go. I think both teams put in to host and it goes to the team with the better attendance. If that's New Mexico, we may have to hit the road.

Here's a link to the WNIT site, and a bracket is available..it's a .pdf file:

Two UNM vs OU games at the Pit in one season, eh? Of course, both UNM and OU would have to actually get to the third game for it to happen.

And, uh, not to be a stick in the mud, but it does take at least a couple of wins against non-NAIA competition to have a Big XII trophy engraved. At least, last time I checked the rulebook.

Great promise though!

On fitting in with the offense:
“Coming in here, it was important for Ashley and I to find an offense where we could really work. I think we can play well with Coach Coale’s motion offense. A lot of it is just doing what you know you can do. I know how to rebound, and I know how to score a lay up, but I do have a lot to learn. I just try to do the things that I know I can do.”

What is a hoopla score?

Syb:

Hoopscoop has a unique form of Fantasy basketball called Hoopla which runs during the conference season. There will be more details as the time approaches, but you won't want to miss it!

YCN

What is a hoopla score?

The game will start with the first session of Big 12 play, as it does every year.

You get to pick a 5-player team whose average player Hoopla! rating is not higher than that of the 15th highest rated player in the league times 5.

And you must have a post and a point guard on your team, and may not have two players that are exclusively posts or point guards on your team.

You also pick a reserve, who cannot have a rating any higher than the 15th placed player in the league. The sub is only used if one of your players is injured in the game or excused from playing due to some sort of compelling reason not related to basketball.

We compete for 17 sessions, and accumulate total points for the season. It's a LOT of fun, but good luck trying to win. The people around here are way good...

HOOPLA! RATING FORMULA:

For 1 game:
Field Goals made plus free throws made; minus field goals attempted and free throws attempted; plus total rebounds; plus assists; plus steals; plus blocked shots; minus turnovers; plus points. Add them all together and you get a Hoopla! score for one game.

For the season:
Use the totals from the formula above to find the totals for each game, add the totals together, and divide that sum by the total games played by that player.

Last year for the first time, the Commish started using normalized scores for each session. I won't get into detail on that, but you will be able to access all the rules soon enough.

ok, I'm stil wowing.

I can't stand it - SWOK is THE expert and - do I DARE say it? I am less wowed than she is. There are holes! Tonight was fantastic if a bit raggid from time to time. The Paris twins were NOT freshmen except in the literal sense. The only reason Ashley didn't start (IMHO) was that we had more experienced folks available. But the "problem" is that below Ashley and Moore, we just don't have a lot of depth - we have potential - but not proven depth. SWOK and YCN have been right so often I WANT to believe but... I guess I just afraid to count too much on the good things I saw in a 107 to 44 game. This is going to be a wonderful exciting season but I can’t bring myself to actually think that just maybe ..... WOW if the 3’s drop ..... if 7 key folks say healthy ..... if I don’t jink anything ....... Just maybe ... W O W

BTW - a delightful surprise: Our walk on (Carolyn Winchester) looks like she is the real deal and belongs on a D1 team.

Sherri would never take a walk-on if she wasn't a player. The number of walk-ons she's had that haven't earned scholarships is very small.

Chelsi hit one 3 pointer but missed two tries and decided that tonight she was a bit off and started to take it to the basket. She showed the same aggressiveness that she did as a freshman but with good judgement as to when she culd be successful. Did a good job on defense, too. I think Carolyn Winchester will have a scholarship before she leaves. Good awareness of the floor, very mooth free throw shot and runs well. Becky had as bad a game as I've ever seen her play. A disaster!! One attribute the twins have is really good hands.

11-04-2005, 12:07 AM
and Gator.......WOW is for Ashley and Courtney Paris, not the entire team.

Now that said, there was a 5'-11 player on OC that figured out if you went in a circle around Courtney enough, you would finally spot a hole to the basket :D She got around C about 3 times before Courtney finally figured that out. Down on the other end, she tried to guard Courtney, that plan failed and the next time down....OC had switched to a much more athletic player on Courtney.

This OC team was seriously out-heighted and out-strengthed; yes, they are a very good NAIA team, but NAIA ball doesn't have the "strength" and physicalness of DI ball.

Ashley was so impressive in her debut as a Sooner; I've seen Courtney impress in both practice and scrimmage, and Ashley has shown moments of brilliance, but to watch her tonite was AWESOME. She LOVES to pass the basketball.

I almost get the impression at times that 3 players are running motion and Courtney and Ashley are running twinspeak.....but if you want the ball fed into the post, put them both on the court, post Courtney up down low and let Ashley do her thing......the ball will get into Courtney. Their chemistry is a thing of beauty to watch.

I'm not sure I'm as optomistic as some of my fellow Sooner fans; though I do believe next year will be the something special at the end.

I've followed the games of the Paris Twins in their Senior year, found every newspaper clipping I could, hunted down box scores. They told their HS coach: we want to be the best, we want to play the best. They did. Did they win every game? No, they lost two games. One of those games they were both in foul trouble and I don't know if I read a decent recap of the other game, but it was to a Washington team.

I'm guessing there will be games where we will shake our heads and wonder where our Twin Towers of Wonder ran off to. They are freshmen and they only turned 18 about a month ago. They are pretty special players nonetheless and it's going to be a lot of fun for this Sooner fan to witness the places they will go.

I hope this is the thing that finally turns the head of the fans in the state of Oklahoma and we can get 10k watching on an average basis. Now you would have thought playing in the NC game would have done it, but it didn't.

Yes, of course (Sherri's alma mater). Certainly no Chantelle Andersons to face. But we've played this team in exhibition for 5 years, and it never looked like this before. A good example of the difference is that Courtney got 25 points and 18 rebounds with no fouls in 19 minutes of play. Her backup (last year's center) fouled out with 1 point and 4 rebounds in 12 minutes.

Don't worry about raining on our parade, JH. Believe me, we are being somewhat subdued over here because we know fellow big 12 hoopscoopers are sick of hearing us talk about the twins.

I think many of us were not surprised that Courtney dominated as she did, though you have to realize she only played 19 minutes. If I had known her numbers before the game, I would have suspected she played at least 30 minutes. However, no one expected what we saw from Ashley. Not in game one. And she only played 23 minutes.

You are right, they are only an NAIA team, albeit a very good one and the best OCC team we've played. But even Sherri noted we just outmanned them. She actually said we did not do a good job of blocking out; we just used our size for the tremendous rebounding advantage.

We will find out more about this team in the next several weeks in the WNIT. But this much we know: the twins are dominating players. How good we will be, IMO, will depend on Britney, Kendra, Chelsi and Erin. Guard play. We know we will kick booty up front. And we have NEVER had a team which kicks booty up front. Until now. And trust me, the Big 12 coaches will duly note the job they have to do to defend/score against the trio of Courtney, Ashley and Leah.

Indeed, we need to wait and see. But I like our chances a whole lot better than I have in a long time. Even without Dionnah. Dang, how good would we be with her? See ya at conference time. ;)

Well we'll see when Big 12 and real D1 ball starts... :)

Iin addition to be talented, big, and skilled, it sounds like the TWINS have their heads set right..,they know they have a lot to learn, they want to get better, they want to play within an offense....very mature thinking.

Listening the UNM game last night against Fort Lewis State...UNM won by a bunch by started very slowly, the commentators remarked how their paint defense was the weakest part, they really struggle against BIGs in the paint, I thought about the TWINS.

thanks for info, bballgirl.....

I was curious about New Mexico and didn't find much enlightment from their roster yesterday. Do they have a perimeter game? Because I believe OU is lacking in that department (perimeter defense) at this point.

and, Beky Preston fouled out of the exhibition...that might be the first time I've seen someone foul out of an exhibition.

I have no inside information, but all reason and logic would have to say "no".

1. Carolyn is good, but not that good - in high school she was a 5-11 post player who played inside to Lana Keith's outside game.

2. Baylor isn't going to offer anyone a scholarship unless they have some idea of interest on the player's part, and Carolyn has never been the least interested in going anywhere except OU.

3. Come on, they ARE the National Champions after all.

Carolyn is a solid competent player who could be very good at a lesser level. She is a step up from our walk-ons in the past, and that combined with her spirit and enthusiasm will make her a valuable addition to the Sooner team. :)

Wow..that didn't set well with Coach.

UNM has a good offense...very good guards in Katie Montgomery and Abby Letz (although Abby didn't play due to back problems) and a terrific forward in Dionne Marsh (a sophmore), Julie Briody another guard has emerged this season as a kid on a mission. Jana Francis is the tallest, biggest kid starting at 6-3. Their perimter defense seems to be pretty decent, they eventually shut down Fort Lewis -- but once they let a player into the paint, they seem to scramble on defense. They're fast though, but they really need to see their shot selection improve over last year.
