Lts of rumors today about Amand Thompson having verballed to OU. Anybody know anything about this? If it's true then Sherri's recruiting class is getting seriously stupendous. :ou:
I'm seeing rumors too, but nothing concrete. However, where there's smoke, there's often fire.
Thompson would be a huge get, there's a reason that she's a consensus top-10 recruit, she has all of the tools.
I also saw a report, sadly, that one of OU's seniors has torn her ACL and is out of eligibility. The only player those circumstances apply to is Antoinette Wadsworth, as Becky Preston and Laura Andrews haven't used redshirt years.
From the looks of it she's giving up the game, although if she applied for a medical waiver she'd be certain to get one.
I think that for a lot of players two ACL's in a college career is more than enough to make them leave the court. It's very sad, she had such high promise when she arrived with Dionnah Jackson, and then she tore her ACL in the non-conference portion of her freshman year. She hasn't been the same since, but she was getting her game back last year.
I'd have to think that getting Thompson would only increase our chances with the Neabors sisters, Olajuwon and Hightower. The latter two played with Amanda on the same USA Youth Development Festival team, and Olajuwon and the Neabors girls played on the same club squad. Reportedly the twins are quite seriously interested in OU, and we may even be the strong leader.

It is Antoinette Wadsworth, YCN :(

I remember a pre-season banquet years ago when Sherri called Antoinette "Her secret weapon". That class and the one following(I think) had the worst luck with ACLs. Surely we have used up our share of those for a while.

Amanda Thompson has committed to OU. There is some info. about her on OUInsider on the LNC board which I posted (different username).
It appears that Sherri only has one more ship to give for 2006. I understand that Sherri is still recruiting Abi Olajuwon hard as well as one or two others. She will have a very good class coming in next year.
She has two to give, four more confirmed prospects. I believe that if any of them come to OU, we will sign as many as want to come, because after the 2006-07 season OU loses six more seniors.
Confirmed prospects:
Rhaya Neabors
Rheya Neabors
Abi Olajuwon
Allison Hightower
All of them are too good to pass on.

Do women get 14 or 15 ships in basketball? When I first posted that Sherri only had one more I was thinking there were only 13 but I believe it is either 14 or 15, just now sure which. I do know the women get more than the men.
With the latest commitment by Amanda, Sherri has 12 on scholarship since Winchester is a walk-on.
I think it used to be 15, but is now 14. I've been trying to get some confirmation from the NCAA website, but that's always a struggle to do.

It is still fifteen. Men get twelve scholarships.

and the women aren't limited like the men.......
they could sign all 15 for the same year if they so desired.
That said, I've NEVER seen Sherri sign all 15 scholarships......she always has that one that she keeps saved.

SWOK34,
I believed that changed as of this past year. I think I remember Penders down at the University of Houston cleaned house because he was able to sign as many as he could. I thought I read about it in the Houston Chronicle. I could be wrong though but I believe the NCAA changed the rule.
She might not save one this year, if both Neabors sisters, Olajuwon and Hightower all want to verbal, I'd figure out some way to fit them all in.

There is a new message on LNC which states that Wadsworth tore her ACL and may have to give up basketball. Even if that's true, I suspect that Sherri will continue her ship through this year.

I hate to hear that about Antoinette. Hopefully, she will still be a part of the team in some capacity.
YCN-I walked around the Pearl Street Mall yesterday afternoon. It was my first time in Boulder. Wish I'd had more time to spend there. Beautiful day.

Jennifer ... you should have let us know you were coming. I'm sure some kind of 'meet to put faces with names' could have been worked out.

How big was signing the Paris twins last year? Don't you think these commits Sherri is getting were influenced by that? I know it isn't the sole reason but when you get some big time players then it will tip the scales for others.
Can't wait for the season to begin!

Thanks BeBe! This was a spur of the moment decision. I had been in Littleton and wanted to take a 'scenic' route back up to Loveland so decided to go through Boulder. I was only there for about 4 hours. I head back to TX tomorrow--not looking forward to it very much!

Vickie, The twins were probably not a big factor with the local recruits but big with Thompson which one would expect on a national recruit. As a matter of fact, Thompson called the twins first to let them know she was commiting before she called Sherri.

I got to meet Allison Hightower for a split second today during her visit. Luckily for ya'll, I didn't have time to use my Voodoo Hypnosis Mind-trick on her to convince her to commit on the spot, so i guess ya'll still have a chance ;)
Seriously, she and her dad seemed like good people. Good luck to her whatever her choice might be.

Not to worry, I've already done enough Voodoo Hypnosis on Hightower and I beleive she's already seeing Double T's in her sleep. :p
*The state's top-rated senior girls basketball player, Amanda Thompson of Young, gave her verbal commitment to Oklahoma late last week. The 6-1 athletic wing player chose the Sooners over Georgia. Others she considered at the end included DePaul, 2005 NCAA runner-up Michigan State and Minnesota.

For a team that has never had an inside presence, this would seem to mean that OU can be dominant inside for the next four years. If OU gets yet another inside player, what do we do with all of them?

I've heard of a 4 guard lineup before. Will we have the first 4 forward lineup? Or 1 guard, 3 forwards and a center?

The 6-1 athletic wing
I thought she was a PF for some reason

From her performance in the summer games, she rebounds like a power forward or center, but she shoots more like a wing. I have no idea how a 170 pound forward led the US in rebounding, but she seems to be able to get the ball. Yet, her scoring appeared to be more like that of a wing. She steps outside to shoot.
I would look for Courtney and Ashley to be center and power forward with Amana backing up Leah (in her senior year) at wing.

I still think Ashley plays the SF...... ;)
Guess we will soon know. I think it's all pretty relative.....all in all, I'm pretty sure we have a stout front line for the next few years :)
Ashley's so skilled at getting the ball inside, and competent putting the ball on the floor, I think it would be a mistake to put her inside. Leah's true position is PF, Ashley is equally adept at either the 3 or 4. I definitely think that Leah will play 4, but I think we'll be seeing a rather unorthodox looking offense this year, on the basis of an unusual mix of talent on our team.
I expect most of the offense to be initiated from the right side of the court, with Ashley as the person most often responsible for pushing the play into the paint. Once the ball goes inside, OU has a plethora of options to use.
Should be a lot of fun! Expect to see a lot of passing in/out, but once it gets into Courtney's hands, more often than not, the play's going to end there.

In the McDonald's game, Courtney passed out quite often when she was covered. She set some people up for mid-range jumpers by passing the ball when the defense had been drawn to her.
Ashley is a good passer. But, she was also the second best center at the McDonald's game. At 195, she is a rather stong wing. She is big enough to bang with any center in the Big Twelve. I suspect that she might play wing, but that she is a better rebounder than Leah. I also think that Leah has a better ten to fifteen foot jumper than Ashley, although Ashley does shoot the three.
I suspect that we will often get the ball to Courtney and see what happens as Leah or Ashley cut to the basket.

SWOK, You know listed heights. I have also seen her listed at six foot. She is probably 5'10" or 5'11" at the most and she is a wing but based on stats and what I hear, she is really a good all around bb player. Can do everything well including rebounding. Not a three point shooter. (We will leave that up to Plumley) She apparently gives great effort. I do know that she is the one that the OU coaches really wanted of all the nationally ranked players that considered OU. Now that is not saying that OU wouldn't have wanted Tina Charles or some others more but they never considered OU
I'll bet she's no less than 6 feet, minimum.
Here's a picture of the USA-Blue Youth Development Festival team:
