View Full Version : ? A Good Loss?

Is there such a thing?

About this time of year one hears talk of Team X having a "good loss" -- seems to be in reference to a team assured of entrance in the NCAA with a high seed, also with a string of wins leading up to the last game or two of the regular season.

I got to thinking of this in relation to tonight's game between BU and ISU. Baylor seems to have little at stake - 2 seed in the Big 12 regardless; win helps a 3 seed in NCAA, loss probably not causing a drop below a 4 seed. How about it, should BU take it easy tonight and reserve strength for next Wednesday through Saturday?

Other teams/situations where the "good loss" idea might fit?

I think the only thing that might be done different is for KMR to use different player rotations or try some things Baylor still needs to work on offensively or defensively. You can never tell a team to relax or let down in intensity lest it become a habit. Plus, its one week till the Big 12 Tourney. That will be one of the longer lay-offs in several months. So no need to take it easy.

I think maybe MR should rest her starters a bit, but these are seniors and it is gut check time and I know they will want to be on the court. I was scared silly that UT may have a "let-down" at KU last night, because it has to be awfully hard to "get-up" for a 0-15 team, while looking ahead to the tourney, but they didn't, thank goodness!!! Sock it to 'em BU!!!!!

I agree with both Bearskin and Bigutfan. I do think sometimes a loss right before the big dance helps a team refocus and get ready. On the other hand, you never really want to lose, right. Plus, I'm glad to see Baylor, UT, and KSU and Colorado finishing ahead of ISU and TTU for once. Those teams have had their time, its nice to see others in the limelight. Go Baylor!

Speaking of http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/isu.gif and http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/ttu.gif. Baylor's next 2 games could VERY well be against these two teams, respectively. IS Baylor a worthy 2 seed?? Time for Baylor to live up that limelight ...on the road http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif

#1 Big 12 Fan....Well I'd say we were worthy of a 2 seed, since they play 16 conference games to determine it, winning 11 of our last 12 to go out and EARN IT. A 2 seed in NCAA's? Who knows, but it'll be exciting finding out! http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
