Crockrum and Greenwelt.

I may be biased, but I sorta thought Dales deserved it this week.

Congrats to Crockrum and Greenwelt.

Yeah me too Jennifer. I didn't expect Cisti for the FOW, but she did have a solid week.

I decided to look and see how biased I was. http://hoopscoop.net/ubb/smile.gif
But, it's no big deal; I'm just bored and restless tonight.

I actually agree Jennifer. I guess they're basing it on Crockom's one great game and then the buzzer-beater. It depends on what you consider criteria for POW honors. Winning a game on a clutch shot is definitely big.

Yeah, I agree that's what got it for her. If Baylor would have lost, or her last shot would have came at say the 5 minute mark, I don't think she would have gotten it.
But, she did put up great numbers vs. Colorado. I guess it helps to get POW if your team wins both games! Same philosophy holds somewhat for POY.

It's definitely based as much on intangibles as pure numbers.
Look at last week.

Tari Cummings - 18.5 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist
Sheila Lambert - 28 points, 6 rebounds, 8.5 assists

Based on numbers alone, Lambert runs away with it. But Cummings played a big role, especially down the stretch, in two big upset wins, all against the backdrop of their coach being fired.

I've been meaning to mention this, so this thread is as good a place as any for Tech fans who don't get to hear Coach Sharp's radio show.

Last week Sharp talked a little bit about Cisti. She began by saying, "Let me tell y'all somethin', this child is going to be one great player before she's done." She mentioned that they had been "beating on her" pretty hard with the pads used during practice drills. Also, Sharp said she had talked a few minutes with Gerald Myers about some drills they could add to improve her shooting touch around the basket in traffic. Greenwalt's level of comfort with the physical game (that's an oxymoron isn't it) is growing.

They have also worked on her shot blocking technique. Obviously, she has already developed some talent at this. However, she "roof" blocks much of the time, allowing offensive players to sometimes recover for a follow shot. Given her height, natural leaping ability, and timing they are teaching her to time her blocks for a little after the shot release, and to tap or swat the ball toward half court. With Jia's perimeter speed, they believe that will result in a couple of easy baskets per game. As Sharp pointed out, there is an art to blocking shots to make them fully productive.

I noticed at the beginning of the season, Cisti barely committed any fouls. That was kind of impressive for a freshman post player in D1 considering that she was blocking shots regularly. Early last season, Jolee committed about a foul a minute. On the other hand, Greenwalt wasn't playing very aggressive defense most of the time. In 3 of the last 5 games (BU,UW,NU), she has committed four or five fouls in the game. Sure, I'd like to see the rate of fouls come down a little, but it does seem as if she's starting to mix it up in the paint. The added aggression will probably pay dividends as she gets better at avoiding fouls calls.

Finally, Sharp talked briefly about Greenwalt again this week, stating her belief that Cisti would make a "big play" to help win a "big-time game for us" this year. I like where she is headed.

Greenwalt seems to be on the verge of realizing her obvious potential. ---All season, I've wondered just how her first name is pronounced; I've heard announcers sometimes say "Sisty" and sometimes "Kisty". Which is corrrect?
