Great run by Cat Osterman the Longhorns in the NCAA Softball tournament! One of 4 teams left in the tourney it finally came to an end this evening at hands of the Bruins of UCLA 3-0. The long 11 inning 1-0 win earlier today over Arizona took it's toil on the Longhorns.

Darn...first the 'Horns take out my 'Cats by great pitching by THE Cat and then the 'Horns lose it to UCLA. I love UCLA...I know, I know..they win every year, they are the Tenn of softball. I like the Michigan pitcher and coach...but it's really hard to yell for a team "east" of the Mississippi. Besides I like Jelly A LOT. Go Bruins!

Is anyone else annoyed by the references of an "East coast" team making the finals for the first time? I dunno, I kinda consider an east coast team as one being on the east coast. Seems like they instead said "Eastern time zone" team, which is OK.
Anyhow, go Michigan!
The long 11 inning 1-0 win earlier today over Arizona took it's toil on the Longhorns.
Actually, not starting Cat is what took the toll on the Longhorns. Denny allowed 3 quick runs. Cat came in and held them scoreless.
Texas lives and dies by Cat. Their defense was tops in the Big 12, but with Cat on the mound most of the time, they had 172 less opportunities for error than the next best fielding team in the conference. Their offense stunk--ranked 9th out of 10 teams in the Big 12 with a .233 average (.221 conference only). Pitching is the name of the game, but if you can't put runs on the board...

No offense but I would use the term UConn of softball..........(Pat has more titles but Geno had dominated in her overall.......same with UCLA and Texas-UCLA leads 7-2 and eliminated Texas 3 times in the CWS....)
Denny is a great pitcher but when you have a girl with a gold medal around her neck like Cat you ride her arm to the prize. Last year when Cat was on tour and Texas well wasn't that great they could smash the ball......what happened? Next year Arizona, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, and Michigan all bring back their aces. Looks to be a doozey! Not to mention in the Big 12 my girl at A&M coming back as a mad soph;) Kansas also got the National Softball Player of the year in next years recruiting class.
Can't agree on liking the Michigan coach.......she looks mean! Of course you can't judge a book by its cover. And ya Michigan is pretty much just in the Eastern time zone wouldn't call that the East!

Well, UCLA was in control of Michigan last night to take a 1-0 lead in the three game series.......
Not looking good to unseat the Pac 10 from the championship seat......
and this is a down year for UCLA.

Yay Michigan!
Anyone else wonder 'what could have been' had Texas gone with and stuck with their big gun, as Michigan and UCLA did? Of course Michigan did pitch their reliever Monday, but that was after the game was already out of hand.

Or at least brought Cat in after the 1st run was scored.
However, UT's hitters did Cat no favors and Jelly stayed strong for UCLA.
Ritter pitched an interesting game on Tues...few strikeouts and great work by her cohorts. 'Course UCLA did an amazing job in the field too. Overall it was a great series to watch...great fun.
