“I’m just excited about getting out there and playing on a regular basis,” Perkins said. “I really know the players better now. It’s good to come to training camp and get to know everybody.
“I’m in a lot better shape than before.”
In fact, Sting head coach/general manager Trudi Lacey called Perkins the most improved player in training camp.
“Jia Perkins has been such a pleasant surprise to me,” Lacey said. “She playing tremendous defense. I’m expecting Jia to really elevate her game this year and really be able to make a solid contribution to us.”
Perkins hopes to crack the starting lineup during the regular season, but said she is patient and figures her time will come.
“We’ve got a lot of veterans showing us the ropes,” Perkins said. “I just want to get in there and play, and we’ll see what happens.”
