Good luck for a complete recovery, Megan! :ksu:

I think they are being optimistic about the recovery time for this injury. From what I've seen of blown achilles injuries in the past, it's over a year before a player gets back to maybe 80-90% of pre-injury performance levels, with a median of about 16 months.

In two years she should be at 95-100% of her level prior to the injury, but having seen much of Megan in the last few years, she'll probably beat that timeline by several months.

I completed ruptured my achille's tendon in 1999 while shooting free throws at the Sana'a International School in Sana'a, Yemen. Actually, I was trying to get a rebound from an errant free throw (mine). I took one step off the free throw line and went down line a sack of bricks. Felt like somebody slapped me across my heel with a 2x4. We were in the midst of a 2 on 2 game of 21 and my team was down. I wanted to finish the game. Didn't know the extent of the injury and I didn't want to lose this final game of the evening. The guys stood me back up. When they let me go I went crashing down to the ground again. At that point I knew my basketball was over for the day. Of course, we had the inevitable argument over whether the game went into the record books as finished or incomplete.

The next morning I was on a flight to Dubai for surgery. I fit into the writer's "older weekend warrior" category. Just when did the 30 to 40 age range turn "old?"

I was on crutches just over a month (stairs are the biggest potential accident), then in a protective boot for another 1.5 months. Underwent physical therapy for about 3 months. It does take time to get back to pre-injury condition, but it's possible. I still have the permanent sutures in my tendon (described to me as similar to fishing line). The achilles injury is a weird one. Very unpredictable as to what causes it or when it will happen.

Sure hope Megan can maintain the patience and persistence to get beyond the injury and pursue her career goals.
