I was reading a newspaper story on the upcoming UConn-Stanford match and saw this:

``We haven't dodged them,'' said VanDerveer, adding that she is open to a home-and-away series with UConn. But she said she doesn't like UConn's insistence that it bring its own Big East officiating crew on the road, calling the practice ``bogus.''

HU? Very interesting. I'm not saying that the officials would be biased but this is very strange. Isn't it? The story was at:

I don't know about basketball, but I know in football it's not uncommon for a visiting non-conference foe to have officials from 'their' conference do the game. But does it really mean anything any more? One night you see an official at a Big XII game. The next night the same official is doing a Big Ten game and two days later he's at a Big East game.

So they're rotten 'cause they're tired?

Actually, I have seen some folks speculate about that. The examples I gave were for men's officials. I don't know if the women's officals work as often and travel as much as the men's do.

Re Geno: Certainly leaves the impression that he maintains an ongoing and public feud with someone - whoever happens to be getting more attention than he is at the moment. Maybe whoever his current target is should send him a bouquet of flowers. You know the ones -- bulbs, usually yellow with a little trumpet-shaped cup surrounded by petals, umm... oh yeah, narcissus flowers. :)

I think Brenda told us at the Hoopscoop Meeting, that YES, this is the case with officials........no one oversees how many games they do consecutively.

Yeah, but do you think Geno would accept Stanford or Texas bringing their officials? What happened with UT/UConn this year?

I hope Stanford kicks their butt. I like Tara, I like Wiggins, Thiel and Brook Smith has the prettiest sky hook. I don't care for Strother or Turner or Geno and I think UConn needs to watch the Elite 8 from Storrs.

Now I feel better.....it would be so nice to have a tournament unsullied by the Geno show.

OK, this is a little weird but I can deal with it. I too am pulling for Stanford up to a point, but a certain poster who could never let go of a Stanford injury and kept blaming it on Lenisha Caulfield of OU dampens my support somewhat.

Stanford as a one game adopted Hoopscoop sistern? Whoda thunk it?

I know, Jimi.....even I would like to see Stanford win this game.

Besides, how can you not root for a Stanford player that not only flashes the :ut: sign.....but also has the :isu: tongue hanging thing going on at the same time ;)
