For any of you interested in high school basketball, the regional playoffs tonight in Waco feature two games with three future Big 12 players. At 6:30, Houston Jersey Village, with HS All American Nina Norman who has signed with UT, will play Plano High School whose player, Chesley Dabbs, has signed with TTU. At 8:15, Plano West plays Houston Spring Westfield; Nichelle Roberts of Westfield has signed with Kansas.

Other games: Mansfield (TTU signee Erin Grant) plays Lubbock Coronado in Midland. Pasadena South Houston (TTU signee LaToya Davis) plays Ft. Bend Hightower in Houston. Plainview (OU signee Chelsi Welch and jr player Alesha Robertson has verballed to TTU) plays Southlake Carroll in Big Spring. And in Division 1A, Nazareth (UT signee Stepanie Thiel) plays Hedley in Fort Worth. Should be some good high school games, and hopefully most of the players will make it to the state tournament next week -- three days of girls' basketball and hanging out with people who really love this sport.

That (probable) Canyon - Plainview Regional Final, will be a must see, if you are in that area.

Also, Tiffany Jackson, Dallas Lincoln, recruited by Tech, Texas and most everyone in the country, will be playing tonight (not sure who) at SMU's Moody, in Dallas. I hope to catch this game.

For any of you folks up in the Panhandle who saw the Canyon-Plainview game, would be interested in your impressions of the the game and the future Big 12 players. I saw that Plainview had a resounding win. Looks like Plainview and Dallas Lincoln might meet in the state tournament - that should be a good game.

The Jersey Village-Plano game was a good one, close for much of the game, won by Plano primarily on the strength of their rebounding. It's hard to win a game when you give the other team 5 or 6 chances under the basket time and time again. But UT fans, Nina Norman will be a lot of fun to watch. She is very fast, a good ball-handler, blew past her defender throughout the game, could penetrate to the basket or hit the three. Spring Westfield was the eventual winner from that region and looks like they will play Mansfield at state. Another good game. Or an interesting one, at least, as Mansfield tends to play a disciplined half-court game and Westfield plays all out up and down the court.
